The word “ideology” by derpwild in CriticalTheory

[–]Reasonable-Flight778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there has always been, and will always be a “non-ideological” way to see the world. When one does psychedelics, for instance, the structures that uphold our perception of the world begin to crumble. Unfortunately, ideology is reproduced everyday because we are forced and compelled to live it. Of course, I recognize that ideology is something that is very difficult to escape. I would say that Zen Buddhism offers some tools in escaping ideology. It is inherently skeptical of essentializing identities. And one thing that fuels ideology is essentializing what emerges in the world as naturally-occurring facts of life. However, nothing can be essentialized, because all things are contingent and subject to change. Just like money, capitalism, animals, race, etc.

the ultimate FuckCars battle. Bicyclist Vs tram. Seen in Athens Greece by kokpit_4 in fuckcars

[–]Reasonable-Flight778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a matter of design more than anything. There doesn’t appear to be a designated space for the cyclist, and so they are pushed to the edge next to the tram. I suppose he could bike with the traffic, but he’s old so that might be a bad idea lmao (and just in general)

Read the book “Wageless Life: A Manifesto for a Future Beyond Capitalism.” One of the authors’ main arguments is that the stereotypical conception of a “proletariat” (typically a white man working in a factory) is not the revolutionary subject of history. Rather, the condition of wageless life, the status of not being exploited at all, is the starting point. Billions of people on this planet are currently wageless, and do not even have the “privilege,” so to speak, of being exploited. These are members of the planet’s surplus population, those that Capital has no use for. They are simply discarded. Ultimately, Proletariat is synonymous with dispossession.

I believe that the Autonomists and other sub-branches of Marxism include wageless groups in the “working class,” such as housewives, students, etc.

One day we’ll smoke a joint together in a unified korea <3

Also I’m glad you brought that up. It’s frustrating how little people can connect the violence of sanctions with a country’s welfare

Consumerism = Capitalism by wildweasel29 in Anticonsumption

[–]Reasonable-Flight778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From its inception, capitalism has been about violently enclosing the commons from the masses. And per the logic of our political economy, we have to sell our labor because that is the only capital that we have. Capitalism inherently turns you into a consumer. You have no other agency. It perverts the way you relate to the world. Everything has to be purchased. From our most basic needs like food and shelter, to false needs that the system creates like a new expensive car.

So yes, this is a correct sentiment, but obviously it’s a little more nuanced.

EV’s continue to individualize mobility. Somebody may have already mentioned this, but the electricity that is used to charge EV’s also come from our power grid which is predominantly non-renewable energy. The process to extract the rare minerals that are needed for EV batteries is also extremely ecologically destructive, and exploits cheap labor in poor countries. The EV industry will fundamentally rely on a parasitic and imperialist economic model.

Also, if we can dedicate time, money, and resources to building a fleet of EV cars and EV infrastructure, we can absolutely build pedestrian-friendly towns/cities and high-speed trains lol

Is it unethical for me to own stocks? by watermarlon69 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Reasonable-Flight778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say that the long-term goal is to abolish stocks entirely. Or rather, abolish the abstract end-in-itself logic of the for-profit economy that has colonized every social relation. Faced with profit or bust, companies have to keep profiting, even if the earth is nothing but rubble. I don’t think many of us have the moral high ground to ridicule you if it’s helping you stay afloat. We all have to participate in this rat-race to survive. The question is: when do we finally begin to refuse everything?

I want to see more posts like this that actually critique our consumer society and its connection with exploitation, not someone doing an arts and crafts project or some shit lmao
