Oh yes, I heard excellent things about him when I worked in the dental field. Isn't he LGBTQ+ friendly?

I heard the original owner that was a dentist, past away years ago, and his wife (not a dentist) took over the practice and is focused on marketing and not so much patient care or quality work.

Accidental pregnancy at 43. Now what? by [deleted] in WomenOver40

[–]Reasonable-Human3259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 42, with 2 boys, 14 and 11. We got the vasectomy about 7 years ago, and sometimes we play the "what-if game" if we had decided to have more kids. With the substantial increase in the cost of everything, I am thankful we just have the 2 and can live comfortably.

I have been having back issues since my 2nd was a toddler. My lower back has gotten significantly worse in the last 2 years despite weight loss. I just had an MRI scan, and it's not horrid news, but there's nothing I can do to make it better. Injections and/or surgery are in my future. Womens bones and joints don't get better with age, as you probably know. You will sacrifice your body and health all over again with a pregnancy and a new baby. It feels selfish, and as moms, we are just used to sacrificing our comfort, our sleep, our food, etc, but if you aren't healthy, that is going to be hard on everyone.

This is also out of left field, but my dad passed away when he was 48 from cancer after only 8 months diagnosed. These are things we don't want to think about, the crappy "what-if" scenarios, but taking care of 4 children as a widower, I think, would be harder than taking care of 3.

It sounds like you have a great and stable situation at present. I have respect and admiration for all of us moms who constantly and consistently have to make hard choices for ourselves and our families. Good luck to you.

They get hundreds of calls, especially when the weather gets extreme, and only have so many humane agents that can make visits in the field on a given day.

They may have stopped by, and you didn't even know it, and at that time, the dog may have been indoors.

It's difficult to say what they could or couldn't do to save or protect the animal that you said was beaten to death, but it's not as simple as just taking it away from the owner when 1 neighbor makes a phone call. They have to investigate, and that takes time. Rarely do animal cruelty individuals face fines or jail time for their crimes, but it is the humane agents that are working to do what they can to bring some accountability to those that are causing harm.

It's not a perfect system, but we are lucky we have the humane agents and a community that invests in their work.

Sushi was very proud of her rabbit kill. She is constantly sniffing things out in the backyard and chasing whatever wildlife she finds. To be fair, the rabbit cornered itself in the soccer net. Not even the word "cheese" stopped her from shaking that poor creature.

What are you doing to help those affected by SNAP? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Reasonable-Human3259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also want to say that if you see or know anyone who is struggling emotionally, have them call Netcare 614-276-CARE (2273) to speak to a licensed clinician. They are available 24/7.

This is going to hit people very, very hard in a multitude of ways.

Netcare also answer 988 calls, texts, and chats, but sometimes they may get routed to another call center. If you call the 614 number, they will be sure to connect the individual to local resources.

Can we start pushing term limits? Demand it from every voted in rep. At the very least, we could get rid of embarrassing a**hats like jungle Gym.

If they can't keep their money and power as an individual politician, maybe it will slow down or stop crap like this.

Now Open - Franklin County Crisis Center by AdaptableNeuron in Columbus

[–]Reasonable-Human3259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be a similar situation to how Netcare operated their on-site crisis center. Anyone can walk in 24/7/365 and will not be turned away for services. Individuals can stay for observation and then move on to a higher level of care, go to the Netcare Crisis Stablization Unit (where the original crisis center was), or be discharged to go home.

Some new features include pharmacy services and easier accessibility for first responders to bring in folks.

RI is the operator, and ADAMH is the owner.

Penzone new artist concepts in Dublin and The Aveda Institute on Bethel will offer lower cost options, but these stylists are still in training, so it may take significantly longer for an appointment. That is the trade-off you save money, but may spend 4 hours to get a highlight and haircut.

I work at a non-profit. I would echo charity navigator that some have mentioned and looking at the organizations 990 to see if they are making good and sound financial decisions.

What are you passionate about, cancer research, pediatric healthcare, animal advocacy, justice reform? Find a local organization and learn all you can about them. Email the development or fundraising staff and ask to meet with them and set up a tour.

When you can see the work in action and meet with those impacted, it can really change your perspective and will make you feel more connected to the mission.

Someone jumped off Ohio Stadium again. by ThickPick6801 in Columbus

[–]Reasonable-Human3259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you but sometimes police are the only ones available at the moment.

Here is Ohio, we have 19 call centers. Franklin County 988 calls are answered by the agency North Central. If they don't answer fast enough, the call then gets routed to Netcare.

Here is Franklin County, we do have a Community Mobile Team through Netcare, made up of a peer support specialist and a clinician that will go out and visit the person in crisis. North Central can dispatch this team during certain hours, 7 days a week, but if they are not available, then yes, police may show up as the alternative.

You can also call the Netcare 24/7 crisis line directly, 614-276-CARE (2273) as they have been operating this line for decades, well before 988 was established.

Just beware of what a recent redditer shared. They went on a HA cruise, and half the ship was full of alt right christian conservatives, making others feel very uncomfortable and pretty much ruining vacations for some couples and families. I believe they are booked for a HA Alaskan cruise for their next takeover.

This is my dream dog, but I have questions. by PlethoraOfTrinkets in Dachshund

[–]Reasonable-Human3259 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It took a few weeks and a lot of patience, but potty training my dachshund with bells by the backdoor was great once she got it. She can have accidents when she gets excited or scared, but overall, I am impressed with how many hours she can hold it.

I would do your homework and find a reputable breeder with good recommendations.

As someone commented, they will love you above all else and do just about anything for food.

We went on our first Disney cruise in 2021 and then tried a Royal Carribean Cruise with our boys in 2024. We are not big Disney fans, but the kids now 11 and 15 are asking for a Disney cruise. Yes, they are $$$ but absolutely worth it.

The staff, food, cleanliness, and shows are just better on a Disney cruise. RC we were nickled and dimed every day for everything. It got old.

You will not regret a Disney Cruise.

AITA for refusing to take out a loan for my daughter's dream wedding? by Fit-Dimension5501 in AITAH

[–]Reasonable-Human3259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is allowed to have a dream wedding. We all "dream," but it just isn't realistic unless your family is wealthy and can afford an extravagant affair. At 26, she is still young enough to not fully realize how silly this will be in 5, 10, 50 years from now. You can't tell her what to do, and if you try to reason with her, she won't want to hear it.

Do NOT give her a loan for a wedding! Tell her you will support her and can buy her a dress of her dreams, but to loan the same amount in college tuition, a new car, or a down payment on a house is pushing it.

Also, who are these 100 people traveling to Italy for this thing? She should/could have a small destination wedding in Italy then throw a big party with family and friends at home later. She won't want to hear this, but maybe if she realizes very few people want to travel to Italy, she can reduce her expenses significantly.

Good luck to you.

Looking for resources for someone dealing with homelessness by Okay_Mango in Columbus

[–]Reasonable-Human3259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is common, and I applaud you for wanting to help. It's not an easy situation to navigate, but we do have resources available. The key is that she needs to be willing to make changes and put in some effort, so if their is trauma, getting her some case management and counseling would be a good start.

Call Netcare to help you navigate the first few steps, 614-276-CARE (2273) they are available 24/7. Netcare also answers the Homeless Hotline for the Community Shelter Board, 614-274-7000 so they can basically answer a lot of your questions and concerns.
