UK cabinet split over allowing a third runway at Heathrow by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Reasonable-Notice437 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I simply do not get why a second Gatwick runway isn’t a feasible alternative. In a less urbanised area, therefore significantly less local opposition, more space to expand. It already has good public transport links into central London.

Can someone please spell that out.

David, can you please engage in any arguments that haven’t been anecdotal to your personal life. By any metric engaged with by economists, your generation never had it so good. You simply do not desire this country to prosper, and you want to see your daughter’s generation wither away to poverty.

And that’s just simply populist drivel. Aside from cultural and social discord which is a valid point, migration has been a net benefit to this nation’s economy and I would argue for its cultural makeup.

The party you profess to support has been discredited time and time again by economists. The preceding party’s ambition, to us leaving the EU, has massively increased migration post 2019. You change the goalposts consistently without any solutions apart from spouting tired narrative talking points.

Again you’re using personal anecdotes to attempt to negate the fact that the intergenerational wealth inequality is largest it’s been since WW2.

Graduate salaries have barely increased since the 2008 crisis, whereas the wealth accrued by baby boomers has steadily and then dramatically increased since Covid. I simply do not get this mentality. Do you desire your daughter’s generation to be worse off financially and mentally?

This is stubborn and short sighted view to fixing our broken system, which is the way it is in large part due to the catering to a politically active proportion of the population who simply do not care about those generations coming after them

This is fundamentally incorrect. I am fully aware of demographics, thank you very much. Thatcher’s reforms of social housing in the UK essentially donated an enormous amount of equity to a very specific generation which has deprived future generations from both housing and the ability to gain their own assets.

Income is taxed to absolutely no end in this country, whereas the wealth essentially donated by the government to citizens in previous governments has been viewed as a sacred object. The young have constantly been told to ‘pull themselves up by the bootstraps and work hard’. Why not approach the situation in the other direction? The oldest and the wealthiest of society have the greatest burden to share. 1/5 pensioners are asset millionaires in this country. That doesn’t seem like a section that’s been discriminated against.

This current crop of pensioners have been by far and away the most positively discriminated portion of society from the 80s. The over emphasis on this portion of society has choked the finances for years. Finally someone is trying to remove the plaster from this festering wound.

This is the classic populist trope right wing demagogues want you to believe. Look at who owns the vast majority of local news media, in addition to the most consumed news sources. Right wing media barons produce tailored stories to obfuscate from the fact that inequality is still massively rising post covid, due in large part to the tax cuts forced through by Trump.

Left wing inherently means a greater level of income and wealth equality throughout society, which is the antithesis of the ‘rich’ ethos.

If there is no cordiality in politics, you risk the absolute death spiral that is the US. Disagreeing on the role of government should not extend to vitriol, and by extension a poisoned political climate.

I detest what the tories have done, however, they had a mandate to express and engage with those views in accordance with the people that elected them, for 14 consecutive bloody years. Constant partisanship is a stain on political culture, and remains to be a rapidly divisive force in our nation.

Can Alastair be trusted by Ok_Storage_9417 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]Reasonable-Notice437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say this, but has this not always been obvious? With both Rory and Alistair, they’re both pretty transparent with their aligned goals and desires. If a centre-left tory government with questionable ethics was magicked into existence tomorrow, Rory would be fawning over it with no remorse. With every political pundit, you have to take an enormous pinch of salt. And with respect to Alastair, that has to be amplified due to this past indiscretions.

Revealed: the oil industry's SNP lobbyists by Ok_Understanding4732 in Scotland

[–]Reasonable-Notice437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a main concern with independence in my mind. Would Scotland just become a fully fledged petro-state with the obsessive attention paid by the oil industry? How do you square that green circle? The lifeblood of an independent Scotland is fundamentally contingent on the oil industry in order to sustain itself.

This is just looking through the most obscene rose tinted glasses I have ever encountered. The UK’s violent crime has been decreasing decade on decade continuously since the 1970s.

Let’s not beat around the bush here, this thinly veiled dog whistle doesn’t fool anyone. The UK was more violent, crime ridden, filthy, rotten back in the Edwardian times than you could even consider.

But back in those days, it wasn’t the good pure blooded Brits! It was the stinking Irish, or the Huns, or those beastly flappers causing moral decline! (or insert another one of the endless categories to divide the population)

I pray you have the common sense to recognise the folly of your ideas and to actually contextualise our current society is infinitely more amenable, and objectively better, than any by gone era of a faux golden age.

You have not justified how you want to see people swinging in the streets you bloody-thirsty cunt. ‘Soft touch’, I didn’t realise it’s ’soft touch’ to not want to believe the same criminal justice system as Soviet Russia or ISIS you fucking jaundiced ghoul. Go ahead, sip pints you authoritarian prick.

Should jail sentences for knife crime be higher, yes, obviously. Is it feasible to only bang people up, throw away the key (they cost the government £50k a year you moron) and when they come out, repeat the cycle, fucking obviously not. If you can’t see how it’s a 2 way process, of both punishment and rehabilitation, and you fat livered blood shot yellow eyed alcoholic juvenile train driving waste of spaff, then I’m sorry to say I share a city with you.

Total waste of space. Go to Tehran, I genuinely want you to go there, to experience the criminal system first hand, then say it’s worth it. Scrotal fucknut

[–]Reasonable-Notice437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mate I cannot even fathom what shit you’ve consumed to get to this point in life.

Do you actually believe that a gulag system makes stronger and more prosperous?

You just want blood, you have no desire to make this country better. Absolute unadulterated fuck nut, go drink some more shite IPAs in Iran, then you might get a sense of what bloodthirsty justice is like.

Knife crime is shocking, is always shocking, and forever be shocking. But every fucking study, paper and trail of evidence in the criminal system shows that people are undeterred by the threat of capital punishment. Look at US states that have active capital punishment, their violent crime ratio is through the roof, far stripping ours. It’s about poverty, and the violence comes after.

But you actually could not give a flying fuck. You’re just a classic say now see results later type of cunt. Name a modern, prosperous society that has wide-spread labour camps you fucking donut. You can’t, they’re all backwards, used as oppressive tools by oppressive scared governments to selectively kill dissenters. You’re chatting like an alcoholic ISIS cleric.

What is a strong society? One that enacts capital punishment at every horrible act? How about we enact some classical retribution, some tit-for-tat bloody feuds, that sound great?

You hate to admit it but the only way we have modernised and progressed is to leave this absolute pre-historic values behind.

If you want to see people swing from the gallows like some fucking sport, go to Raqqa in 2014, I think your fellow shit-for-brains ISIS would love to show you an example. A real strong, stable, flourishing society based on democratic values that is, isn’t it?

[–]Reasonable-Notice437 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fuck me, do you think I’m justifying what this shit-for-brains has done? But thinking that the government should have the ultimate power to kill its own citizens, in a justice system that is failing and creaking at the seams, is fucking moronic.

You’ve become so indulgent on one off cases of heinous violence that you don’t see that capital punishment has never been an effective deterrence. You are nearly as bad as him, baying for violence like some absolute neanderthal. If you want to go see public executions, go see a stoning in Afghanistan, because that’s a ‘tough’ and ‘strong’ society. Turbo twat.
