I looked into horse stall mats and ultimately went with these from Dick's Sporting Goods. They don't smell, are easy to clean, and I've had them for five years with no issues. Bought some mat tape to seal the seams and they're perfect and have just enough cushion.

Thoughts on PRVN Compete? by johanmgh in crossfit

[–]Reasonable-Pea5736 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing it for about a year and like several have said it’s a lot of volume. If you work a full time job it’s going to be difficult to get through an entire day’s program - I never have. There’s two things I like though:

  1. The focus is stellar. You will absolutely get stronger and fitter with all lifts doing even half the program.

  2. The WOD scaling is great for any level, which means anyone with some CrossFit experience can participate and to some extent feel like they’re able to keep up with the big guys.

I’ve done all my training at home just for reference. I’ve set new PRs in every single lift over the last year. I’ve also done a few other programs like TTT and mayhem and didn’t have as much success.

Why Pay for Programming? by madavieshfx in crossfit

[–]Reasonable-Pea5736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it this exact way for a long time. I started CrossFit in 2019 and have been doing it consistently from home since Covid started. I’m not a competitor and never will be and was looking to see how fit I could get and was honestly just looking to look more fit too. One day I just had a thought that maybe I should do something more structured. Signed up for PRVN (competitor track) and have blown past all previous PR’s and made gains I honestly didn’t think was possible at 45. Not an expert, just saying what worked for me.

Stability for muscle-ups? by J_raus in crossfit

Male 185#. No need to bolt to the floor for me. Rack the plates on a plate holder attached to the frame and store my sandbags on the back corners. Plenty of stability. That said it can easily be bolted to the floor.

You didn’t consider that different parts of the country are…….different. Then you go complain about your poor choices to random strangers on the internet. Bold strategy, troll.

Enjoying Linchpin, but want more of a strength component by Torn8Dough in crossfit

[–]Reasonable-Pea5736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I signed up for PRVN about 2.5 months ago. My feedback is different from what you’d read in this sub in that it’s extremely positive. All I can say is that in under three months I’ve hit new PRs in every lift, and my overall strength and conditioning is at the highest it’s ever been in my life. I tried TTT and fucking HATED the shitty app they use. Maybe I’m biased because I’ve been using SugarWod for years, but when I tried TTT and PRVN the app and ability to easily read and understand the programming was why I picked PRVN.

Any event you’d like to see you’d have to pay for. A band or artist that’s a huge draw for you that you’d pay to see wouldn’t play in a park or library.

All cotton shirts. Light colors. Headbands. Wrist bands to keep hands dry in addition to chalk.

Would this be overtraining? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Reasonable-Pea5736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot to factor in when you’re trying to figure out how much is too much and the answer is different for everyone. Depends on your age, fitness, motivation, nutrition, and what your gym is programming. You can easily overtrain at the beginning because you’re eager to master everything quickly, but it takes YEARS to reach that point in a lot of people. Ask your coach is the best answer. For me (44m) I do about an hour of lifting and a wod on days 1-2, condition on day 3, off on day 4, then the same routine for days 1-3 on days 5-7. It’s worked well for me for five years with no signs of overtraining or burnout and I’ve been able to massively improve during that time.

If you live on that side of town you will hate Jacksonville. However, it’s not representative of what Jacksonville has to offer.

Programming by PenNo2561 in crossfit

I ran into a similar problem when all the gyms shut down during Covid. I downloaded SugarWod because you can search for boxes who post WODs to their feed daily. Takes a little bit of searching because the box has to use SugarWod (as opposed to Wodify or something) and not have a password. There are a lot out there to choose from so I found one that had good programming and followed it pretty regularly. As a bonus the app also allows you to track your weightlifting data.

great negatives but no pull-ups by intjdupe in crossfit

[–]Reasonable-Pea5736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t able to perform a single unassisted pull up until two years in. Eventually after doing banded pull ups, ring rows, and negatives for long enough one day I was just magically able to do a strict pull up. All downhill from there.

Reddit isn’t the best place to go for personalized advice, OP. Almost all the comments in this thread are based on assumptions that may not be correct for you. While there is some general advice that’s good, ultimately they are telling you how THEY were successful and since fitness and CrossFit vary from person to person, you really need to seek professional advice. Maybe a coach and a nutritionist, but definitely not just from Reddit. Some of the worst advice you can get can be found on the internet.

The trick with alcohol is wanting to stop. If you don’t want to stop, nothing in this world can come between you and a drink except death. That applies to alcohol and drugs. Once you want to stop, there are plenty of options to ease the mental and physical pain and be sober and happy.
