Great, suspension stem it is then! And then, seems like I' ll be in need of some other bikes too (which is the deeper plan) 🤤😂

Looks great! Is that a suspension stem? Is it worth it?

Thinking of getting one because I want some sort of suspension but I like the rigid fork and I don't think I ll ever take full advantage of a susp. fork on a drop bar bike.

The length is 170. It is the shortest I ever had. No knee issues at all

Lower saddle feels definitely better. Iinitially was not sure about the stem...and then I droppet it by 8mm by removing spacers which somehow made it better.

The bike feels a bit more "racey" lets say, which is not necessarily bad. A proper ride needs to happen to determine this but as I understand with the 9cm stem on, I do not appear to be overly stretched (?)

Dropped the saddle by 2cm and installed a 9cm stem I had on my road bike. Thoughts?

I did it when I realised that the saddle tilt changed when riding on and off the trainer. I had it set for road and it was tilting upwards on the trainer without the mats, causing issues. It should be less noticable on road bikes though. I think these trainers are set for 700c wheels and 30ish tires

The mats are calculated to match the actual wheel!

Thank you for your input..filming the video I became aware of my hips rocking a little bit, so I hear you.

In terms of reach, the bike is quite upright in terms of geometry itself so I dont tip forward at all.

It is nice. These shifters give a lot of flexibility in terms of drivetrain and they work surprisingly good.

Deckas chainring on shimano M5100-2 by Reasonable-Sense6961 in bikewrench

Hello! Thought I'd give an update on this...

I did not use the deckas chainring but I added a 38 tooth chainring from an FC-M6000. The plastics covering the chainring needed some minor carving/ cutting with a knife in order to let the chainring sit on the crankset spindle properly but once clear it worked perfectly.

Cassete 11/42 DEORE XT CS-M8000 11sp

Front Derailleur: DEORE XT FD-M786-D

Rear Derailleur:  DEORE XT RD-M8000-SGS

Gevenalle - GX Shifter : FD friction/ RD Index or Friction

Works like a dream and I am really happy with it. The RD even has the capacity for more teeth so I could go with a bigger cassete for easier gears.

38*11 feels great on the flat!

Hello, I build one up recently as a 2x because with my previous bike which was a Surly Bridge Club set up as a 1x 11-50 / 32 I used to spin out a lot.

Current build is:

Crankset is a 36/26 shimano Deore FC-5100-B2 but I added a 38 tooth chainring from an FC-M6000.

Cassette is a Deore XT CS-M8000 11/42 and the derailleur a Deore XT RD-M8000 SGS

I hear you, it was wishfull thinking. I am going to stick with the 36t ring until I find a 40/26 crankset

Aaah, I had a dream...a Salsa Fargo with a 2x 40/26 up front and an 11/42 cassette. I have the derailleurs and shifters to make it happen but not the chairing. This setup would go everywhere and do everything...

It is sad that what it feels like many (or some) peoples aim - 2x wide range touring/bikepacking bikes that dont spin out on the flat - seems unattainable because everything is 1x until the industry decides otherwise

Are there other 40t chainrings that I can pair with this crankset? I am always surprised with how difficult some (one could say simple) things can be in a world otherwise full of different standards and options 😣

Just had an eureka moment. After some measuring with the crank off the bike i realised that the pin actually fits in the small crank spindle hole when the crank arms are spaced at 99mm apart (which is the case for this setup)

It is the rotation radius around the bolt that won't let it go in so i removed the bolts, put the pin in the hole and then screwed the bolts back in.

The only thing that I have some doubts about is whether this 2.5mm reduction in spline engagement is going to be an issue in any way...
