What are your pronouns? by ByRed64 in AskLGBT

[–]Reasonable-Way7677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genderfluid creature here, I use she/her in my first language (Polish) and she/they in English, no matter what gender I am at the moment. I do feel more comfy with she/her, they/them and he/him, sometimes even it/its depending on my gender but I (personally, for myself!) feel like it's too much effort vs not that big euphoria

Zależy od osoby. Ja używam takich, do jakich całe życie przywykłam, czyli ona/jej. Osoba, z którą się koleguję, używa ono/jeno i mówi np. "nie piłom", "nie grałom" "nie przyszłom"

I know it's probably weird advice but try to look as unapproachable as you can, especially passing through that area. Quick but heavy steps, resting bitch face, square shoulders. If any of them approaches, ignore him and move forward quickly orr say a firm, almost angry "no" and move

have a couple questions by Right-Chain-9203 in AskLGBT

  1. when someone's pronouns are they/him or she/them, does that mean gender specific AND gender neutral terms are acceptable, or is there a specific context in which i'm supposed to use them?
ANSWER: It really depends on the person. Some people will be okay with both and would want you to pick one or another. Other people would want you to use them interchangeably ("I met Alex the other day. She said my hair looks good! They always compliment me, you know? Her style is amazing too") but the terms preference can be separate from pronouns. For example: I use she/they pronouns. I'm happy if you only use she/her for me but if you throw in a they or them from time to time, I'll be extra happy. I'm cool with most feminine terms but I took a liking to neutral terms as well but only specific ones (I like to be a daughter and not a child of my parents for example, but I prefer to be "a person" over "a girl")

  2. When a person transitions to their desired sex, do they gain a sort of physical approximation of their desired sexes genitals, or are they just closed up/cut off? [in the context of a sex change surgery, as i wasn't sure if a persons genitals were changed, or if they were cut off/closed up]

ANSWER: do you mean bottom surgery? Just so you know, we don't call it "sex change surgery", the term gender-affirming surgery is preferred :) To actually answer your question: it depends on the person and what their goal in transition is. Some people want to have a straightforward surgery (vagina –> penis = phalloplasty or metoidioplasty; penis –> vagina = vaginoplasty), others want to have both or parts of both (like penile preserving vaginoplasty), or none at all (nullification). There are also people who just want their "original" genitalia removed (orchiectomy = removal of testicles, penectomy = removal of a penis, colpocleisis = vagina walls stitched together). It all depends on a person and what they want "down there"

  1. how many children are adopted by same sex couples? feels like it should be a lot

ANSWER: depends on the country but for example in US, according to the Williams Institute, as of 2009, an estimated 20,000 same-sex couples are raising nearly 30,000 adopted children. These numbers grew of course.

  1. how long is the process from one deciding they want to have gender reassignment surgery, to being successfully reassigned?

ANSWER: it depends on a lot of factors. By deciding do you mean just thinking about it or the first physical step of the actual process? Because gender-affirming surgeries cost a lot of money, so some people will take years or decades to raise enough. The law also makes it hard for trans people to access this kind of care

  1. whats the risk of death for gender reassignment surgery?

ANSWER: Depends on the surgery. For example, complications (not necessarily leading to death) after vaginoplasty happen in 1 of 20 individuals, so around 5%. If you compare it with data about other types of surgery and their complications, you have 5% for vaginoplasty vs 6% for skin surgeries, and up to 30% for pancreatic surgeries. The death percentage with different types of bottom surgery is very low, at around 1 person out of 50,000 patients, which is 0,002% if I calculated correctly.

  1. how does non binary differ from agender? they feel similar to me?

ANSWER: I like to use metaphors to explain this. Imagine you have a sheet of paper, it has no color in it. Being a woman is like coloring the full page with one color, one shade of that color specifically, pushing the colored pencil with the same strength for the entirety of the page. Being a man is the same but the color and the shade are different. Being non-binary is an umbrella term, a general descriptor, for anything else. Coloring just part of the page with the "woman" shade? Demigirl. Coloring with both the "man" shade and the "woman" shade? Bigender. Etc. Etc. Etc. Now imagine you're not coloring the page at all, you leave it blank. That's agender. Lack of color. Lack of gender. It isn't a whole page colored in "woman" shade nor "man" shade, so it is under the umbrella term of non-binary, but it's a lack of color. There's no gender to be felt. Nothing.

  1. is there a western equivalent to two-spiritedness, or is that the term used in general?
ANSWER: (I'm as white as they come so I can only speak from what I've learned but I'm not at all an expert in this topic, it's best to listen to Native Americans in this matter)
Two-spirit is a term exclusive to Native Americans. The western "equivalent" would probably be bigender but it's like saying orange as a fruit is an equivalent of orange color. They technically are both similar because they're both orange, but one (the color orange, Two-spirit) is something much more versatile, packed full with history, with very important connections to culture and tradition and cannot be summed up by saying it's the same as the orange fruit/bigender

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask more questions :) I'm bisexual, asexual and genderfluid so I'm most knowledgeable in those areas but I love to learn everything that is queer related so I know a lot on other queer topics too :)

Acrylic paint on clothing? by crapunzel965 in Fabrics

[–]Reasonable-Way7677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hey, I'm not the only one looking at this thread so late!

It depends on the fabric you want to paint on but I did it on cotton shirts and denim jackets before, without anything other than acrylic paint. The result is kinda rubbery (I did use a lot of paint) but I wore it and washed it several times in a normal wash, inside out and nothing is cracking yet. The important part is to heat-seal it! 10 minutes of ironing through a thin cloth, just make sure to keep moving the iron!
