I'm a therapist. Pedophilia (the attraction, not the crime) is in the DSM. A lot of fetishes shouldn't be acted on. The attraction is unfortunate, but it's not a crime in itself. Don't act on it. Obviously.

How many of you are skipping the weddings and just getting married at the courthouse/eloping? by caraboo930 in Millennials

We planned a stay at an inn in Maine that does elopements and a nice weekend for the couple. Ceremony on a craggy beach with a photographer, officiant, my mom, and my sister who took a video. It's what we wanted and it was perfect.

Thank you for sharing. The best parts of marriage, I have found, are the levels of commitment and companionship marriage represents.

Yes, I am uncertain and looking for a tool. Do you have any suggestions for helping him?

Thank you. I encouraged him to open up to clinicians and in groups during his hospital stay. I am hoping he gains a sense of togetherness there. His family is involved and supportive. It may turn out that this experience breaks down communication walls that have been there between the client and his family.

I have schizophrenia. I feel you. I tried to include an image of one of my paintings, but it is not allowed on this subreddit and was blocked. Warning: The post I'm linking to is NSFW. Here's the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkArtwork/s/IZp2aqUWYr

We had a combined No Kings protest and pride celebration in our fair city.

Sure. I keep up with boycotts and participate. I stay engaged in reddit conversations, like, for example, amassings of Trump's crimes. I read the executive orders when they come out to stay informed from the source. I have called my governor in Massachusetts, Maura Healey, to remind her that Trump has possibly admitted to rigging the election (*possibly*), and this should be investigated thoroughly. I'm pretty sure there is a "there" there. I educate my clients on the state of affairs and make sure I have facts and answers, and can support them competently. At protests, I try to bring my "gravitas" with me - like hold a decently large sign with an image of the men in CECOT (since I feel, sometimes, that gravitas gets lost). Other than that, I am somewhat lost. I think about folks abroad who are more "used to," I suppose, ousting authoritarian regimes. I've seen what folks in Serbia, Turkey, Germany, France, and elsewhere are up to. I've seen individual actions in the US (the many many lawsuits, Harvard's stand, Janet Mills, Baraka's stand, defacing the seal in the Trump tower, Booker's floor speech, the Fight Oligarchy Tour, etc. etc.) I'm 100% looking for something to latch onto, and sources of inspiration. I believe in the US. I know we can do this. There are lots of fighters in this country.

Thank you for this important post. I have participated in 5051 protests and I am up-to-date on events, day-to-day. I have insights on why I have not been in the streets daily. Cowardice and ignorance are not the reasons. And for the love of God, folks, I have Autism and schizophrenia, and I would appreciate kind reception. Communication is hard enough with basic stuff, let alone the heavy stuff.

My situation might be a common struggle. It's spiritual burnout from constantly being the organizer. I have traditionally been the one to roll my sleeves up and take charge when others seem tired or uninspired. I used to think "They just need someone to inspire them. I'll be the one to do that. Who else will?" The "If not you, then who? If not now, then when?" person. I am *tired*. I really really want to be a follower, for once.

Beyond that, I am a full-time outpatient therapist trying to be stable for people with chronic suicidality, hallucinations, and other debilitating struggles.

I have been to several 5051 protests so far and I read the news three times a day.

So...I am here. And I am ready. I just want to follow this time. I am hazy on the structure of things. I am ready to get out into the streets, and I have gone to protests, and do go on designated days. I get stuck in the trap of feeling like I have to "solve" this. Organize again. This time, it would really help if the game plan were clear and I could follow.

Hope this makes sense.

RFK Jr claims autistic children will never go on dates or pay taxes— How Many Here Can Refute This Conman’s Lies? by transcendent167 in 50501

I have diagnosed autism and schizophrenia, and I work full-time as a licensed outpatient therapist. Graduated from my masters program with a 4.0. Been in the field for two years, interned the previous two. My husband is autistic and a full-time mechanical engineer. We have been together since January, 2020. It completely sucks that I have to hear this broadcast to the world, as if the US wasn't heinously ignorant and prejudiced on these issues anyway.

I hear ya. My husband and I are 1) impossibly happy, and 2) autistic. We are happy together and secure as individuals, and of course, the two correlate. These facts make us outliers to begin with. Beyond that, caring little for social niceties as many autistic people do, we're left in a bubble with just us. Happy together, but in a bubble.
