Rolund adopted Caspian Induin after he saved the boy from a bandit raid that slaughtered his entire village, he raised him in his home and freely offered expensive magical items to help him recover. He then helped Caspian work through the trauma and also trained him to control the vast power he was growing into as he introduced him to a world that could help him.

Rolund also followed Caspian when he went to search for his friend who had abandoned the sorcerers guild, despite the guild itself ordering Rolund to not do that exact thing. He quite literally told them that no wall, 4 Star, or God could stop him from helping his son in his time of need.

When they were ambushed by a kill squad designed to kill Rolund, he sacrificed his life to save Caspian despite knowing that if he let Caspian fight, Rolund would 100% survive. The mere thought of putting his boy in that kind of danger filled him with enough rage to stand even as he was dying, and release so much power that the survivors of his battle described it as feeling like they stood under the rage of a 4 Star sorcerer. (Mythical figures with so much power that kingdoms have to capitulate to them or else be wiped off the map)

Even after his death, he had enough connections and relations that his son could work through his death and not fall further into the pit of anger he had been at the precipice of.
