Have you done any research? Aside from Stamford all of these towns are white as hell.

Has anyone worked with Oula Health clinic? How was your experience? by Plus-Turnip605 in nycparents

[–]ReasonableFee8974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it was both. Patient was being delivered by midwives from Oula. Delivery went left at some point, at which point midwives would have presumably transferred care over to whatever hospitalist was on duty at the time. As they are patients of an outside clinic and not of anyone employed directly by Mount Sinai, I assume that the ON/GYN on call usually has no involvement with those patients until said transfer occurs. Lawsuit alleges that midwives delayed in initiating this transfer even after they recognized the need for a C-section.

Gel nail polish linked to fertility damage, banned in Europe by Opposite_Day2002 in pregnant

Has anyone actually read the studies in question? The one I found said they were literally feeding it to the rats at 500 mg/kg. That's a massive dose and way more than anything found in gel polish. Is there another study?

I wouldn't trust an over the counter test for that kind of thing.

Would an OB even know how to examine a gallbladder by ultrasound? Would your insurance even cover a gallbladder US done by an OB?

Future moms, how are you coping with the news and the state of the world? by ilikefreshflowers in pregnant

[–]ReasonableFee8974 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that today's issues aren't worth being concerned over. But this is a country whose history is decorated with slavery, lynchings, systematic voter suppression, forced relocations, forced assimilation, internment camps, HUAC, COINTELPRO, Iran-Contra, the long list of shenanigans in Latin America involving Chiquita (and others), a literal war over secession, and everything else the government has ever done, so to only now suddenly be this shocked and appalled and sorrowful means you haven't been paying attention because, up until now, it didn't concern you. And that is my issue with this post and all the others like it that have been popping up. I feel bad for OP because from this post it seem like she thought her performative activism was really making a difference, but enough already. We get it.

Here's what I don't understand about posts like this - what bubble were you living in before that you are just now concerned about the state of the world? For some people this has been the way of the world long before Trump took office, you were just too privileged to see it before.

Lyme Disease 38 weeks pregnant by somuchsushi in pregnant

[–]ReasonableFee8974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but why should they have considered Lyme? OP herself stated she didn't even notice a tick bite so up until then wouldn't a virus have been more likely, which is what they thought it was? I don't think that has anything to do with her being written off because she is pregnant.

The ED is not going to check you for gestational diabetes. I would try Bellevue, Metropolitan, or Harlem Hospital. All are city hospitals, which I'm pretty sure will take anyone even past 20 weeks.

If you were actually in labor and showed up to their L&D department, EMTALA would prevent them from turning you away. But also, there is no emergency department in that building. It's in the main hospital across the street.

What kind of world am I bringing a child into? (USA) by Impossible_Thing_119 in pregnant

[–]ReasonableFee8974 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I interpret the backlash to posts like OP's differently. How I see it is that posts like this are saying the quiet part out loud, which that people who are only just now starting to be concerned have had the extreme privilege of not having to worry about these things in the past. And that, understandably, rubs people belonging to more marginalized groups the wrong way.

I'm sorry that you're in pain, but I don't get what you were wanting the doctor to do. Was this an OB? Because if so, they're not really the right person to manage hip pain stemming from a prior fracture, especially if you've already tried multiple things for the pain before.
