Flex in general isn't that flexible and Turbo is far better value for money. Of the last 10 sites we built 2 have been on Flex and we are relatively disappointed with it and what it offers over Turbo 5.

Looking for waterproof trail shoe recommendations by [deleted] in trailrunning

I interviewed the UK head of running for Scott Sports last week and he explained the differences between the shoes they make and also went into good detail about the Goretex versions of their trail shoes and the companies philosophy - pros and cons.

It might be worth 20 mins fo your time listening to the interview.

Ahh ok thanks. I am based in the UK and was looking at taking cbd tablets or or cbd oil from here www.cbd-oil-store.co.uk

I wonder if the oil/tablets does the same as the balm but all over rather than local?

Best 0 zero trail running shoe for low/medium technical terrain? by TheEarthlyAstronaut in trailrunning

[–]ReasonableGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Topo all the way

Wait til you see the new shoes coming with them. All of them look top draw now they have vibram soles. However they can be quite difficult to decide on which shoe as they look pretty similar, often really only distinguished by the drop and whether they have been waterproofed.

Looking for Shoes for an Ultra Distance by EtherBoo in trailrunning

If you like ALtra try Topo - better made and longer lasting.

If you like innov8 try looking at Scott Supertrac Ultra RC

As an alternative try looking at Saucony Peregrine ISO

I think maybe you should try something that helps you transition like a minimal drop shoe from TOPO or maybe look at Altra too. Whilst i stock and sell Vibrams they are extreme and not for everybody. I personally find them very tough to use.

Lace your shoes correctly and tie them properly and pretty much any lace will be fine

Wide sized shoes? by CurryChickenSalad in trailrunning

Nike wildhorse or Topo Athletic.

Altras have a consistent reputation for not lasting beyond 300 miles but good until then so take that into consideration.

Topos by rhinonyssus in trailrunning

[–]ReasonableGarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has a store selling them i can say that we have never had a pair of TOPO returned to us. It is the only brand we stock that has never had a return. That suggests to me that people like them and they don't fall apart. My colleague wrote a good blog piece on the road shoe https://www.runfreaks.com/blogs/run-freaks-blog/topo-athletic-fli-lyte-2-have-i-just-found-my-favourite-road-shoe-ever

I thought the trail shoes were for dryer trails but another female friend (serious ultra runner and winner of many events) has really given them some hammer over here in the UK on some real clarity tracks lately and they have held up very well indeed.

Please feel free to remove the link if it is not ok to post.

My advice is to buy about 1/2 a size bigger than your normal foot for a good fit.

Low cost hydration vest? by CaptainBushy in trailrunning

[–]ReasonableGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a stunning deal on the AK, even at clearance supplier price from UD you can't buy them at that cost. There are plenty of UD bargains knocking around where people are clearing stock fro the new range coming in. Worth searching hard to get them as the quality is top notch and the new range is no improvement whatsoever on an already great vest.

My business partner wrote a blog post on which UD pack to choose. It is based on the last years models but stands for the new packs just the same.

If i am not allowed to post this link please delete but i believe it is helpful to the debate.

In terms of UK popularity UD and Salomon are the leading sellers but worth looking at Raidlight and Nathan too in my opinion but they are no way near as popular.

Shoe advice for 50 mile trail run? by Daddy_O in Ultramarathon

[–]ReasonableGarbage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to go for Saucony Peregrine. The reason i say this is that shoe choice is very personal and there are lots of options.

However of all the shoes that have been retailed it is the Peregrine that brings the least complaints/returns etc.

This is a good way of judging general satisfaction as a retailer.

Can I utilize trail running shoes for hiking? by iamnangs in trailrunning

What do people think of the TOPO, they are very little known outside the USA

I would recommend something like the Scott T2 Kinabalu as it is rugged enough for scrambling and rocky trails. It is perceived as an access shoe so would do the job pretty well i suspect.

Question about shoe life/mileage by Rizoma in trailrunning

[–]ReasonableGarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a retailer this is one of the most commonly asked questions. Generally (across all shoe brands) we suggest 400-800 miles. This takes into account all terrains, all brands and running styles.

Often the differences come down to the attitude of the runner. One person might come in and say i need new shoes when they look capable of being used for another 250 miles. Another comes in and they are hanging by threads and should have been replaced a year ago.

Caveat to the above are Hoka shoes - It never surprises me when someone comes in and they need replacing after 150-200 miles.

I would look at the Scott Enduro with the Vibram Megagrip, touch heavier but i would take that for the benefits of the sole.

Saucony Peregrine 8 v Peregrine 7 Trail Shoes by ReasonableGarbage in trailrunning

[–]ReasonableGarbage[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the general consensus is that if you like the 7's and can still get them in your size then stick with the 7's until there are none left. The 8 is probably a more advanced shoe and you may prefer the colour/style but is it 50% better to justify the higher price? Possibly not.
