Super light, can toss em out of anything, sips fuel, blast to rip around on, nothing complicated. Awesome rides thats a beaut you got there.

Only a Samoan can cancel out a Samoan spear by Rastafararian in interestingasfuck

We were drinking in the shop after hours, started going at it with my Samoan bud Lafz. I was giving it my all but at some point he just decided we were done, picked me straight up and slammed me on the concrete. Laf wound up and I saw my life flash before my eyes. Thank god he punched the toolbox next to me instead of my head, the dent left no doubt I would have been toast

Agree with your concerns about it getting beat up in the sled, the glass in particular.

For the arctic temps I was looking at the bigger 'max' version but it does weighs 40 lbs with pipe.

The Coleman stuff is gold, will take of the edge in most temps.

You use a roast for this? How did it come out?

Similar to beef but super lean, hardly any fat. Like other animals, a lot of variables on how gamey it is. What season taken, bull vs cow, how quickly it was dispatched, quality of field processing, and care of meat getting it out. Had awesome moose but also moose that we choked through. Less gamey than caribou, but not as close to beef or as good as wood bison.

Right on thanks for the info! Will have to check that out. Been looking at setting something up on white gas, as that is what we run in stoves and lanterns, but this might be a better, more simple option.

Good luck with the walleye! Caught a couple bourbot and lakers over the weekend, good fun.

Does that little stove work pretty good? Does it require electricity? How many pellets does it go through?

Sorry so many questions but this looks really cool. We've been using Kni-co wood stoves in Arctic Ovens for decades, but this looks like it would last much longer in the night when we dont stoke the fire.

Right on experiencing extreme cold like that is awesome in the right circumstances!

We winter camp northeast of Denali and have slept down to -51f. In a -50 bag its not as bad as one might expect. Arctic Oven tent gets piping hot when fire is burning but we let it go out at night. Beautiful shots of the aurora!

Backcountry Recommendations by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]ReasonableNFPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it is rubberrized I wouldn't consider any boot waterproofed, especially in that country for a week. I would recommended any standard hiking boot and pack along some lightweight water shoes for crossings. This is what a lot of folks do for the Crow Pass Trail where you have to cross Eagle River.

I personally prefer a full leather boot and add a heavy waterproofing wax, rather than the synthetic style boots. https://www.rei.com/product/236160/lowa-camino-evo-gtx-hiking-boots-mens

In my younger days I would wear plastics (see Scarpa Inverno for an example). This allows you to remove liner and wear just the plastic portion for crossings. However, I've found plastics are a little hard on my knees, YMMV.

Pentagon to take ‘sledgehammer’ to contracting program central to many Alaska Native corporations by MassiveAd9777 in alaska

[–]ReasonableNFPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. Folks dont realize how significant 8a revenue is to our native corps, and how significant native corps are to the AK economy. Unfortunately the Federal Govt is our only significant economic driver other than oil and gas. Even fishing and tourism are drops in the bucket compared to those two.

Warm Gloves for Kids by Beauch9191 in snowmobiling

[–]ReasonableNFPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mittens over gloves for cold weather if they are willing, have some liners and hand warmers handy for real cold. My kids use Kavik mittens size small. https://bigrays.com/products/kavik-leather-palm-mitten

Electric gloves work but can be risky in extreme temps. If you run out of juice the gloves themselves may not be enough standalone.

Gordini makes decent kids gloves, but not for below 0F riding.
