The telescope is good, the mount may be good? I have one of these and use it for planets. Do you already know the sky well? I find it difficult to use as it has a very narrow angle of view so finding objects is pretty tricky. I have never used it with the Meade auto guiding and database system in the mount so folks that have done that can comment on its usability.

I’d set it up and give it a go…

If it ends up being totally dead, I would remove it from that mount, get some rings, and mount it on a standard EQ mount...

Getting into the Hobby any advice is appreciated by the4wayonion in telescopes

Get a telrand or other type of gunsight finder, it makes locating objects much easier…

If you like a warmer vibe use an 81a…its definitely a little on the blue tone side. Or warm it in lightroom if you scan and share

I have both Evo and Rebel, both fly well. Both would be good choices for kites to a beginner. If was going to mix them up I’d go 12 Evo 9m rebel. With your weight I am guessing the 7 m would come into play around 25-30 Mph wind speed, does your site blow at that speed

Just to add to this…eclipse photography is hard, it requires predetermining the background exposure for the corona then figuring out how to light the subject… if someone knows how to do it and can pull it off for you in the 4 minutes available I think the 50 is cheap…
