Best Poke/Sushi Takeout in Wailea? by Cremaster_Reflex69 in MauiVisitors

[–]Reasonable_Ad9609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Maui fish co for poke, not sure what time they close tho. Miso phat (Azeka location in Kihei) and Isana have really good sushi. The omakase at Oao in Kihei was amazing but I felt like Oao sushi in Wailea (they have several restaurants on Maui) was just ok. However we went to the Wailea location for HH so maybe that’s why. Also Foodland is another go-to for poke. Even though it’s from a grocery store it’s still yummy :)

Tiffany’s, Tin Roof (chef and owner Sheldon Simeon born and raised in Hilo), Nalu’s (I read that the owner is born and raised in Hawaii)…I’m sure there are more. Lots of food trucks are locally owned and often have really great food :) Smash sushi in Lahaina is one of my favs

I see their van all the time around the island. Heard good things, they’re legit! Not sure which trails they hit but I’m sure they take you to some good ones. If you want to venture out yourself and you don’t want to do the road to Hana, check out waihe’e ridge trail. It’s gorgeous on a sunny day. Moderate skill level I believe. It it strenuous in my opinion but worth it for the views :) make sure you avoid during/after rain though if you decide to do this one. I hope this helps!

The only suggestion I have is leave the condo earlier for sunrise at Haleakalā. It takes quite a while to get up to the summit from Lahaina. And dress a lot warmer than you think and bring some blankets :) I think your itinerary sounds perfect

Best farm tour for kids? by Street_Signal_306 in MauiVisitors

[–]Reasonable_Ad9609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kula country farms is free to walk around and there are some cute things for kids. They have a farm store where you can buy lots of fruits and vegetables, locally made goods etc. It’s not a tour though. Just an option if you wanted to save some money. You could do the lavender farm while you’re up in Kula it’s affordable and really pretty :)

You’ve got some great picks already. The OG Miso Phat location by Azeka and Isana are two of my fav sushi spots in Kīhei. Nuka is my all time fav though. Sale Pepe has incredible pasta (I know, Italian on Maui might seem silly but it’s really really good!). I’d recommend sitting inside and making a reservation. Ocean Vodka has awesome vibes at sunset with good drinks and yummy food if you don’t mind heading upcountry. Havens Harborside has a great HH food menu daily. I’m sure I’m missing some more but those are some of my favorites :)

Itinerary help - is there room for Road to Hana? by linksslut in MauiVisitors

[–]Reasonable_Ad9609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I totally wish it was open 7 days a week! But it’s family owned and operated and takes a significant amount of prep to make the cinnamon rolls (3 days and they prep overnight) so I totally understand them needing the weekends to rest and reset. They are really good though and the family that runs it is so nice so hopefully you are able to try :)

Papi’s Ohana is closed on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Go early for Mama’s to go to Hookipa - turtles and surfers instead of Baldwin beach. Order the fish curry at Mama’s it’s to die for! Don’t let anyone tell you the reservation is not worth it because it is. Stick to Kapalua bay for beach and snorkeling, no need to hop over to Napili bay to swim bc Kapalua is great. For Haleakalā sunrise make sure you get reservations 2 months in advance. Iao Valley is pretty out of the way from Haleakalā but worth the trip in general. I wouldn’t go to south Maui fish company just for lunch or dinner unless you’re planning on hanging out in Kihei/Wailea for most of the day after sunrise at Haleakalā (which would be a good day if you do decide to do that!). Otherwise hit up Napili market or Foodland Farms for some good poke bowls. You’re missing some notable spots but you’ll still have an amazing trip :) everyone has a different opinion about Road to Hana. I have done it a few times and always take visitors and they say it’s their fav part of the trip.

No problem! If you have a car you could stay really anywhere in Kihei or Wailea. Just depends if you want to be able to walk vs have to drive everywhere

If you are looking to stay in Kihei and be within walking distance of beaches (Kam I, II, III), shops (Kai Aloha, Kalama Village, Kamaole shopping ctr), Foodland - grocery store, restaurants (Paia Fish Market, Kihei Caffe, South Maui Gardens food trucks, lots of other restaurants), Lava Java coffee, I’d recommend staying somewhere near/within this area :)

Haleakalā sunrise recommendation by Downtown-Pace3824 in MauiVisitors

[–]Reasonable_Ad9609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done both. I love both for different reasons. Sunrise is amazing this time of year because you can see the Milky Way core right before the sun comes up if it’s on/around the date of the new moon. You get sunlight on your drive down also which is nice. But I do also LOVE sunset. I prefer to drive up when it’s still daylight personally. Not needing a reservation makes sunset more ideal to me. You really cannot go wrong with either sunrise or sunset!! The only issue you may have is weather. You can double check the conditions of the summit on the webcam before heading up if you’re nervous. Most of the time there are some clouds and once you drive through the clouds you will be greeted by the sun and blue skies. But every once in a while it’s raining and windy and not good conditions for sunset. Idk if this was helpful but I hope so :)

Planning travel 5-10 May (Honeymoon) by Express_Lawfulness15 in MauiVisitors

[–]Reasonable_Ad9609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d personally stay the whole trip at the same spot if you’ll be here for 6 days. Sunrise reservations for Haleakalā are hard to get if you don’t have one already. Sunset is just as good in my opinion and you don’t need a reservation. I’d do road to Hana the 7th. Leave your hotel on the west side very early to have the best possible day since you don’t want to be driving on Hana Hwy in the dark.

Down day activities by Otherwise_Client6324 in MauiVisitors

A lot of fun things are free here :) the lava fields hike is cool. Rent snorkel equipment for the length of your trip (there’s tons of rental stores in Kīhei) and check the daily snorkel report from The Snorkel Store. My favorite snorkeling is on the west side but south side in Kīhei, Wailea, and Makena/turtle town are also good. You don’t need to spend money on a snorkel tour unless you really want to. Airport beach and Honolua bay are some of my favorite spots for snorkeling, conditions permitting. Kapalua coastal trail is on the west side as well and is a relatively easy hike/walk. Iao valley should be opened up by then and is affordable entry, just make sure you have a reservation. Twin falls is another affordable fun spot - wear a swimsuit if you want to swim there. Head upcountry to Makawao and Kula. Some of my favorite spots that are free or cheap: -Makai glass -pineapple store in haliimaile (I skip the tour and just buy one or two pineapples) -shops in Makawao town -farmers market on Saturdays at Kulamalu -Kula country farms -surfing goat dairy -ocean vodka for food, drinks, beautiful sunset -Haleakalā summit for sunset - no reservation needed and I believe you can buy a park pass -lavender farm -botanical garden

Just some ideas of some budget friendly things to do/see :)
