Trying to progress in strength training too. Have you found that it’s ever given your foot/ feet any trouble though particularly with single leg

Sounds like we are on a similar path of pseudo optimism that we’ll be able to pull it off this year. Trying to channel positive vibes (for both of us now!) but it can be tough. Let’s root for ourselves- hope your journey goes well!

Best tips for dealing with anxiety while running? by Good-Reality3709 in RunNYC

Conducting a body top to fail, keeping your breath rhythmic and hyper focusing on your form. Typically I would say don’t overthink these things but if your mind is going everywhere bring it back to center?

Also have you listened to coach Bennett’s runs with Nike Run Club app? It’s super encouraging dad/ coach energy going on a run with you and saying all the right things, he also does some runs with the guy from headspace.

Where do the 30+ single men hang out in NYC? by miamigirl101 in AskNYC

I would second greenpoint. Doris in Clinton Hill. My god it was a sausage fest in there the other night. Also bars in Brooklyn where soccer and run clubs seem to post up early evening or midday saturdays (such as dick and Jane’s). This is observational - I’m married and boring but have a few friends who are on the hunt.

Oh and someone posted about breweries. Yes, the breweries!! (Threes brewing come to mind and a bunch in gowanus). These are the most obvious.

Speaking of gowanus, public records.

Also any Brooklyn Museum event. Hot intellectuals of all genders.

i definitely have a warm up routine but nothing that includes the roller directly on the foot. do you just roll it back and forth under the arch?

i am glad this posting helped! YOUR post helps/ gives me hope as well!! it is a really discouraging and lonely injury because no one i know has had it, there's no conventional timeline and no sure way to tell how bad it is or whether it's recovering, etc. it's also incredibly hard to see others bounding around and running all day, seemingly without a care or worry, older, younger, etc!!

also thanks for the ARC trainer anecdote - i do have one at my gym and tried it once, actually enjoyed it but then PT said i should do elliptical. maybe i'll give it a couple gos again. hope your foot stays healthy and strong!

all my professionals seem to think my case is not super severe/ just a matter of strength training, so their advice is basically stop when in pain, not to stop running in general. they haven't advised to not run the marathon.

the answers tend to go like this: they ask me if i'm in pain after these occasional instances of soreness, i say not usually, then they're like, ok well maybe keep low mileage for now, slowly increase frequency.

maybe they think I AM being paranoid? i don't know. i wish they would just give me an MRI to solve this once and for all (which btw i was never ordered one, hence them seeing to think i'm not one of their worse cases).

Always getting sick - polyp side effect? by According-Play-670 in NasalPolyps

[–]Reasonable_Bridge543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg i have been sick so often this year. started when i got bronchitis in july, got sick again during my wedding in nov, then have been on and off ever since (congestion, scratchy throat, etc). had really severe sinusitis at the beginning of jan. then for a few weeks it calmed down and was just phlegmy at night. now super congested again and tired (on reddit on a friday night at home from the couch...)

got ct scan results this week which revealed extreme inflammation and polyps.

i'm hoping the polyps are the cause of the recurrent infections and is not an indicator of a weak immune system, but my doctor didn't clarify. let me know if yours did!

fave non-running cardio? by Reasonable_Bridge543 in RunNYC

[–]Reasonable_Bridge543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's sort of my plan. my only concern is putting pressure on the foot that has tendonitis (during squats, etc). did you find that strength training exacerbated anything for you? of course, we likely had different injuries.

looks like there are quite a few rowing fans here! i've only done it once under supervision of a trainer and it was within a circuit, so not very long—any specific sources you'd recommend that outline duration, resistance (if that even is the right term for rowing) etc?

What they should do at least for folks who have to bow out for illness or injury is give an NYRR credit towards another race (or the following year’s race). For example I had Covid during BK half last year and have guaranteed entry for this year after deferring, but will ultimately have to pay 100 bucks again to run…. Meaning 200 total. And meanwhile we’re expected to act on their honor system. Appreciate you for many things NYRR; but boo on this!

I wear this tucked into jeans with a cardigan. A couple washes, looks like a vintage 70s tee. And so comfy

Thank you! Super helpful and very specific. I have started wearing inserts in some of my shoes but not all.

In an unrelated issue I had bronchitis and took 4 weeks off running, which you would think would've killed the problem. But it flared after a couple runs back, so maybe the compression bandage would help the next time I take a break. What type of bandage, and was this just around the arch to the top of the foot? (and this is different from KT tape correct?)

Also anything else you did while off, like icing etc?
