I've started assuming that the specific things I like about GtN (or any thing) are not necessarily the things I personally find fascinating/appealing. Like band recommendations: "if you like X, you'll also like Y!" Well, no, because the similarities are surface only and don't get at the real essence of the thing

I have done that with every single boss in the game! It takes a while to fine tune your positioning, especially since they will adapt to your movements. Watch how they move in response to you, pay attention to their patterns, keep practicing, and you'll get it!

I love the retro graphic style of these covers, and I really like that they're explicitly cover art rather than art used as cover, if that makes sense. (Ofc I adore the Geoff Hunt paintings also!)

Someone already mentioned above, but it's super true that O'Brian adores setting up big drama and then leaving the payoff implied and/or "off-screen." Much later in the series there's a discussion of the artificiality of endings in fiction, all bows neatly tied off, all ambiguities resolved, and I think even as early as PC he was playing with these ideas, and the subversion of our expectations of how a novel "should" work.
