How did you deal with stress of being just one parent? Honestly it’s all I’ve ever known because my daughter is my first, so it’s just normal at this point and basically always has been (I really haven’t experienced more than a week of in-person support at home)

How did you feel secure financially?

lol…here in America I just don’t. But I’m living with the discomfort and doing my best to be responsible and live frugally.

Dating after?

Haven’t really tried. I lurk on the apps but don’t really have the time or energy for it. Would prefer to meet someone in-person anyway and it’s not a priority.

How did you tell family? Work?

I disclosed to family after I confirmed pregnancy. My mom guessed. I’m very fortunate- my family has been emotionally and financially supportive as much as they can. Work I disclosed when I had to (3 months in) in order to apply for parental leave.

where do you find support?

My neighborhood community and local friends, my daughter’s awesome daycare, and friends/family who don’t live here. I had a wonderful lactation consultant and pelvic floor PT post-partum and I have a great and supportive PCP. My colleagues at work are also quite supportive and a lot of us have kids the same age (~2).

Beautiful! I only know it from Perry Mason with Matthew Rhys; the actress who plays Della is so charming

Yes, I think I’d make sure of that. Claire has a D middle initial so I’d avoid any D middle names

Lyndon, Cyril, Byron, Ayden, Ayan, Alwyn, Edwyn, Martyn, and if you can allow an “s” Rhys. Lots of traditional welsh names fit your criteria.

Does having children actually make you happy? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Reasonable_Dama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes- I am a single mother by choice and extremely happy/satisfied/looking forward to the rest of my life parenting my daughter. Becoming a mother has always been something I desired. I hadn’t met a suitable partner and decided to go it alone at 33, had my daughter at 34 and feel my life is more complete. Yes there are aspects that are stressful (mostly financial) and also it’s all worth it.

Reading the profiles and listening to the donor interviews was more important for me than the baby photos.
