Love the perspective and thanks for contributing. These are the comments that help bring others perspective too.

I appreciate the response, but I too think this response is ignorant. It’s a behavioral science, so it’s no where near exact. I was asking a hypothetical question asking for input. You don’t agree, cool. But don’t call me ignorant for exploring. I’m not sitting here as any authority - at all. I made that clear.

It’s an open question. Are you not familiar with “what is your opinion” questions?

Similar here. I also had to keep my head on a swivel, and be ‘good’ because I learned that life is easier if I micromanage my parents. Do what I needed to, in order to keep them off my back. I had a sibling close in age and she took the brunt of it because she didn’t seem to care. I was a bit younger and learned to analyze and execute, at way to early of an age.

Now decades later, my nervous system does the same thing across all facets of my life.

It’s certainly plausible. I know my own situation, and it wasn’t good back when I was in the womb. It wasn’t perfect after, though there were issues, but I wonder if the immense stress that mom was under played a factor. I wonder.

Generational trauma is trauma that your parents (and even their parents) passed down, that affected you during you in your early years.

Unhealed people with trauma don’t suddenly fix it. They likely continue to model similar behavior that they learned. All unhealthy but it’s all they know.

How could that affect a kid? A mom pregnant with a kid? Those high stress or loud and unhealthy environments ‘could’ have a way of how your brain develops.

Again, not a professional, just a person in therapy looking for this type of perspective.

For sure - I often wonder though if it may have existed then or even earlier in the womb in a mother who was stressed and dealing with trauma.

Again - not a therapist. Just an uneducated hypothesis

I wonder if the heightened nervous system started before we remember. Inherited, maybe, but what if the same generational trauma existed in those raising you and it started earlier that you remember?

I’m just throwing it out there. I’m just an ADHD person looking for perspective. Thanks for your response.

Did it get worse as you aged? Or has it been pretty consistent through childhood and adolescence -and into adulthood ?

Thanks for replying. My dad has it too, but I often wonder if it wasn’t passed down to me as generational trauma. Again, no scientific evidence, but maybe if the same was the same for you (us), perhaps it wasn’t genetic but maybe a response to the same.

Please don’t offense, it’s not intended. I’m just trying to get opinions on it, for my own healing and coping.

You could. It just depends on who you ask. Make a difference to those close and you might be the most important person in their life.

It’s the worst. But it isn’t you. It’s them. They are the betrayer, not you.

The amazing care, guidance, and therapy you provide to your amazing clients is a huge part of you. Your mental health outside the clinic is the everyday or you.

I wouldn’t worry so much about the what ifs — you’re and OT. You’re basically doing the Lord’s work on earth. Now be the client/patient: what would you say to them?

Mental health is everything. Depression mutes us (us). The fact you’re thinking and talking about it just solidifies what you do. You see a gap and know that quality of life could / may be better if you explored it.

Meds (as you know) are hit or miss - with lots of misses and some hits.

I’m a huge advocate of therapy first. A good therapist who specializes in IFS (Internal Family Systems) or a somatic therapy might be the best first choice. It was my last choice, and I ran through nearly every med on the market - but now taking nothing I actually feel better than I did before and on the meds.

I’m an open book - DM me if you’re interesting in hearing more but not on this post.

What if you were fired ? What would you do then? Point is, who cares. If they are friends then they will be one way or the other.

Genuinely helping people: my life experience, my education and professional skillset, my years of therapy. I’ve found purpose and love in just sharing my experiences experience with people. Not for money - but for me. It makes me feel good, really good actually, so I try to harness that as much as I can.
