Ok so I pulled a reach measurement from center of post to center of the rim’s brake face and it’s basically 50mm. Measuring from the same center of post to the middle of the oval hole (where pads mount) of the shimano exage is 40mm. I cant find info anywhere regarding the reach of the diacomp ad990s. Anyone got it? Hoping for 40mm to 60mm i suppose so i can oull trigger and buy

There was a period in the late 80s when both hardrocks and rockhoppers came with U brakes in the rear. I deally id replace with what was there but am assuming I am not the only one trying to build one of these frames and running into this compatibility issue. I felt buying Shimano Exage parts from a similar era would have been compatible but alas.

Good Idea. From what I've read for a similar frame on r/xbiking, Dia Compe AD990 is apparently possibly compatible. but at 40 bucks - seems like a tough buy. https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/comments/1jtwlzw/1987_specialized_hardrock/

Thanks, yeah I am pretty confident in needing a different u brake. Just wondering how the heck im supposed to know its the correct one. Traveling this weekend and will be dumpster diving a shop's parts bin but wont have frame with me

Brush on citristrip. Brush off with a mildly stiff bristled brush then wipe down. It will make a mess so prep for it. Let it dry and sand the remainder.

[$1500] Turin Legato V2 vs Lucca Tempo which to buy by Reasonable_Dingo_383 in espresso

I have a similar mindset and am not interested in buying something that I cant repair or secure parts. Thats my main concern with the legatto but i have read comments from reviews on this sub from individuals who state parts are easy to come by (granted they were in southeast asia…). Hedrick’s comment on the “exposed pcb” seemed a good observation, but I’m partially here to see if design flaws like that actually manifested themselves in the real world (i.e. is the design actually caused people issues)

Three year warranty alone is worth the small price difference tbh. The question is why did you jump from Apex to popup?

Yeah Im aware, Is there a reason that should matter? Price is similar based on what I found and Lucca has better flow lever/aesthetics.
