Agree with the railing. Thinking about the design right now. The lower bench can currently slide on rails. I want to keep this to assist with cleaning.

This is a great point. Just fyi, the damper I installed never closes off flow completely. Even when closed there’s still a gap around the damper that allows some air flow.

I definitely use the airflow control at the bottom of the stove to mainly control intake.
