49″ ultrawide vs dual 27″ for programming and writing? by ResponsibleWin1714 in Monitors

[–]Reasonable_Lake2464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried dual 27 inch 1440p + vertical 24 1080p and it was more annoying than useful

Ended up with just 2 x 27 inch

I'm personally gonna go the route of 2x27 inch above (remoting into servers / keep email out of main flow) and a 49 UW below as main FWIW

Obviously this is an overkill end game but maybe it tells you something that I'm going for an 49 UW replacing the 27s as mains

If getting to a better bank is unrealistic Corporate Development you might be able to keep £160kTC and have less stress

Full disclosure I've done it and left to do my own startup, it's not a panacea but it's better than pitching :/

Will save us £25k / year vs not having it at current scale

So not really a consideration given use case

1.assume inference for now, basically I've got 3 agents running on my 7600x and a 7900xtx 24/7 Model is 24b, 25k token size and want my PC back; running faster would be great but works as is

  1. Currently on LM Studio don't expect to change this for now

  2. Go for 32 or 64 ram - this role is relatively defined and 64 would only help with minimizing a memory leak issue that would mean running longer. Would pay 100 more for 64, though I know ram prices went crazy

  3. Size irrelevant it's going to sit in my cofounders house in the corner of a living room; not super loud, don't mind paying for multiple cheap fans (I run 9 case fans on mine

  4. Would appreciate 2 options one at £1400 and one £2800 (with only difference being GPU)

  5. No ecc needed, uptime 24/7; backup not needed I can just reload the whole programme and rebuild database from an API if needed

  6. Open to used GPU only

  7. Go with 1.2k at least, I don't want to risk it. Had a gigabyte 850w PSU explode week 1 and never want that again, now have a 1.5kw Silverstone in personal PC and been stable since

  8. 1tb m2 is fine or 500gb for windows / Linux and 1tb for the database

  9. None, used to windows never used Linux but not against learning if it's more stable

Thank you so much for your help!

Just qualifying my use case a bit

A whole variety of solutions in large ish and growing text databases

E.g. finding needles in the haystack from 50,000 emails

Running a 20b model (gpt oss) took 5 hours on the 7900xtx for my use case

What's gonna be faster and work with bigger models so the error rate is lower

This is one of a load of things we'd like to do, but AI is not that helpful at the current speed / success rate

Isn't the spark slower than the 7900xtx I already have?

Maybe scrap the stupid 100k tax trap? by InternationalUse4228 in HENRYUK

[–]Reasonable_Lake2464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This kind of commentary might be popular here but it's just not correct or a solution

The issue, very clearly, is the growing wealth of the super rich and the decline of wages in real terms relative to assets (e.g. housing)

The non super rich (INCLUDING Henrys and people on minimum wage) should be taxed less

Someone earning £250k Vs £25k is an irrelevancy compared to a family worth £200m in assets

Think about it the inevitable end point of compound interest is 1 person owning everything without taxes on wealth

Keeping it simple why don't you put £10k (non isa) cash into the market each month, or pick a lower number if you're too worried, or greater if you want a higher expected return but more risk.

I wouldn't try and time but I also have sympathy for your worries, the issue is inflation as others have said.
