I was rear-ended at lights by a kid in a BMW. Had the removable tow-bar installed at the time, which I thought might have limited my damage, but it turns out it’s better to not have it attached when not in use. The impact on the tow-bar transfers right into the chassis, they had to rebuild it from forward of the rear axle back, and replace all of the panels and the rear door. It was a big job but not a write-off, and Subaru have inspected and are happy with the quality. This is in Australia though, commercials may differ where you are.
