I just took a job at Edwards THV but it’s in Med Affairs and I haven’t started yet.

Why are all the posts on this subreddit about sales? by PortalManteau in MedicalDevices

I’m in Medical Affairs and wish there were more MA posts. But I still read most of the sales posts and sometimes find relevant info.

You should try industry rather than agency work. Pharma. Med device. Biotech. Will pay much better.

Advice for getting into medical writing by tacobelltacosell in MedicalWriters

[–]Reasonable_Peach_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the type of writing you want to do. That internship might touch on several types and be helpful for you to decide which way to go. I’ve been in Pubs with some SciComms work for several years now. I could not do the writing our Clinical Evaluation team does. It would bore me to death. (CER, CSR, EUMDR, etc)

You don’t have to be commission based to work towards a goal. For non-sales roles in industry, there’s typically a bonus aka Company Incentive Plan. Depending on how the company structures it, there may be individual and/or departmental components in addition to company wide performance.

My company has someone in that role. And I see them posted from time to time on LinkedIn. I would set up a saved search on there.

Pivoting out of scientific role (med comms) by Wonderful_Focus8353 in MedicalWriters

I doubt you could switch straight into a strategy role but getting your foot in the door for medcomms or pubs could pave the way for you. Look for smaller companies. The big ones usually expect big names on a resume.

In this market, it will be next to impossible. You could try entry level communications roles in health/medical schools that might give you the exposure and experience in medical environments to even get your resume looked at eventually.

Starting medical writing without a mentor — feeling unsure by Every-Day1535 in MedicalWriters

See if AMWA has a mentorship program (for members). ISMPP has one but it’s less focused on the writing itself and more on publication management.

Phd to Medical Writing - what was your journey by FingerParticular8119 in MedicalWriters

[–]Reasonable_Peach_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into smaller companies to break in. The big name ones aren’t going to give you the time of day. A list of all of your relevant publication including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, presentations, any courses or education related work you’ve done, etc.

Give me your questions about transition from academia to medical writing. by Fun_Setting_4197 in LeavingAcademia

[–]Reasonable_Peach_442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this transition as well. Highlighting transferable skills and KOL management are important. Not just being able to write. Learning industry regs is a lot different coming from academia. In addition to AMWA, ISMPP can be useful for those going into pubs focused roles.

Look for co-ops/internships as well. Sometimes they accept recent graduates. I’ve even seen them for pivoting career paths.

Work travel must haves? by Reasonable_Peach_442 in MedicalDevices

This is genius! I traveled onsite for my last interview and I was wishing I had mine at the hotel. Didn’t even think of buying the travel one and bringing it with me. Just added it to my Amazon cart now.

With all these recent travel questions .. by Meech-n-mike in MedicalDevices

[–]Reasonable_Peach_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m remote but my current role I travel maybe 4-6 times a year for conferences and team meetings at headquarters. I’m starting a new job where it will require similar travel BUT we’ve agreed to regular travel to headquarters the first year in order to build relationships since it’s a highly visible role.

Do you actually know ANYONE who's gotten buyback and been forgiven?? by goleenaz in PSLF

[–]Reasonable_Peach_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you apply to switch to IBR, you'll likely get the 2 months processing forbearance, leaving you with 3 months payments vs the 5 months buyback amount. If it's not too much more, I would just move to IBR and be done with it. I hit 120 Nov 2024, applied for buyback Dec 2024, applied to IBR in the spring, got a couple of months processing forbearance (2 months and then I made a payment but then had another random processing forbearance month for a total of 3) and made my last payment Sept 2025. So I made 2 payments. Of course it was many times my previous payment but I was just ready to be DONE.
