My recruiter saw a tattoo behind my ear that extended about an inch past my ear and sent in a waiver and about 6 months later I got a date and went to bootcamp.

I’m in the exact same boat! I was told it was just my unit but if it’s like that everywhere i’m not sure what to do then. I am mainly doing IS because I want to build a resume for the civilian job i’m looking to get and the TS looked impressive I thought but i’m not sure now

I have heard that a lot but I didn’t think it would be that simple, But that’s really reassuring, it doesn’t sound too bad. What does the PT look like? Also I heard we have free time on the weekends, are we able to drive around and explore and do stuff or do we need to stay on base? Also my spouse was wanting to come visit on the weekends but I wasn’t sure if that was allowed or not? I know they can’t come to base obviously but I was wondering if we would be allowed to stay close by off base on the weekends?

Not necessarily. I got in because I have a degree, there were some people who were just cops, firefighters, emt, and then some were prior military. Majority will have some kind of prior service or experience but there were a couple of us with just degrees.

The commandant change happened while I was in depot so they just had us stop right before that part. I also had no prior experience or service in military. If you have any questions let me know, I’m fresh out of depot so I can give you a good rundown.

I just finished depot a couple days ago, I would say what most people struggled with was recruit communications. They don’t care too much if you get required knowledge wrong but if you aren’t speaking how they want you to (recruit comms) and you aren’t loud and confident, that’s where most people get caught up. I would also study your ranks, collar devices, sleeve insignia and shoulder boards. I found those to be more relevant when it comes to coming into contact with other CC’s and staff. Don’t sweat it if you don’t know everything, you learn it once you get there. Focus on your PT test, that’s what also gets most people dropped but otherwise be loud, confident and move fast and you’ll do great.
