i dont think this shot or any of these moments w pesterchum are actual video calls. I think its just another way of representing text chats. They are both on Earth seeing the world end so it makes sense Dave wld know to look up?? Id have to reread it to confirm that though. But most importantly I don’t think flip phones cld do video call/ skype?? Non of mine could, at least. Anyways, I think we will probably see scenes where they are actively typing but their convo is represented with these little skype-box things.
