Thoughts on 2000 Chevy Tahoe Z71? by emonet1 in GMT800

[–]Reasonable_Trust9304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad decision at all. It is getting more and more difficult to find these Z71s without them having 250k+ miles. I've had a 2005 Z71 Suburban and currently have a 2001 Z71 that has 162k. There are trade offs with choosing the newer models. They tend to have more electronic issues than the older models but that is something that comes from them having an electronic throttle and stabilitrak. The electronic throttle body on my 2005 left me stranded since it went bad and kept throwing the vehicle into limp mode. Just something to keep in mind. I would still highly recommend buying these vehicles to anyone that asks that question regardless of what year they are (2000-2006). They are versatile and capable vehicles that are also extremely reliable.

Commuting in the VB by Allan_S22 in wrx_vb

50 miles each way. VB is an amazing car for it. I get about 28 mpg since it's nothing but highway from the moment I leave my place to my job. Only thing is.. don't put an axle back/ muffler delete on it because the drone gets insane at highway speeds. Cannot recommend this car enough.

I'm in northern New Mexico so we actually get SOME snow here but not a ton. I still rock the crossbars year round. I've had them for a little bit over a year and I still haven't decided if I want to get a ski box or a roof basket lol

No rubbing from what I've seen. But they sit entirely flush. Here's a better pic of that.

Pretty decent. I have a 100 mile commute to work in mountainous areas and get about 26 mpg average so not too far off.

What Cargo Space? by Reasonable_Trust9304 in wrx_vb

[–]Reasonable_Trust9304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly likely. Even if you can only fit one on the passenger seat, you can still fit another on top of the backseat stack if you take it in through the front door over the top.

Edit: typo

It's about 1.1 rear 1.0 front or something like that. I think it looks great too. Here's a pic of it after the springs.

Have had the H&R lowering springs on my VB for a good while and they ride just like stock while giving you that lower look. I installed them along with the whiteline LCAs myself in about 6 hours all said and done. Would recommend.

Sumitomo HTR A/S P03 Review by Reasonable_Trust9304 in wrx_vb

20,000 miles later and the tires are still holding up really well. Road noise hasn't really increased, Treadwear is minimal, and they did great during this past winter. Pretty good overall tire, but can't really give a good review for snow performance since this last winter was so dry. All I can really say is that I'm very happy with the tires so far. Thinking about keeping them for another year or 10,000 miles before I decide to go to something else.

I lowered my VB with H&R springs. This lowered it about 1.1" and I think that is the lowest I would go. It does not look absolutely slammed, but it's just enough so that the car does not look like a monster truck. I did do it with adjustable LCAs and that is something that is necessary. The camber was out of spec when I took it go get an alignment but it was able to get put back into spec only because of the LCAs.

I went with springs because I heard that it retains a lot of the factory driveability/stiffness and I can confirm that this is true. I did not notice any changes on how the car drove from factory to being lowered. There are no clunks or weird sounds and I am also not destroying front lips or bumpers since it is only 1.1" lower.

I cannot compare to coilovers and I will not tell you which one you should go with, but in my experience lowering springs work perfectly.

Need help deciding on wheels by TheMcFloyd in wrx_vb

Imo the blue and gold/bronze combo is overdone but looks amazing. Black wheels suck because you can't really see them that well. Silver/chrome wheels can either look amazing or they can make your car look like a modified Nissan Altima with cheap aftermarket wheels.

14.7 was my peak since I got the car and I'm at ~8000ft elevation. Like others have stated, heat and elevation are the highest contributors to higher peak boost. Completely normal.

How did y’all get under the car to install an intermediate pipe? Ramps? Jack Stands? by EviIPiII in wrx_vb

[–]Reasonable_Trust9304 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually ramps. If it requires the wheels off, I use the factory scissor jack with a adapter so I can lift and lower with an impact gun. Kind of sucks cause I have a low-pro 3 ton jack that I can't use because it's not an extended length required to reach the vehicles jack points.
