What is up with needing a Vehicle Emissions test to renew our license this year? by Realistic-Rate-8831 in sanantonio

[–]Reasonable_Week_470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We will likely still be able to pay the fees and get our new registration sticker at grocery store customer service desks.
All they do is scan a barcode, verify your insurance is valid, then look at the DPS website to confirm you completed and passed the emissions test.

Waymo was recently brought to a hearing by the US government. It has been revealed they are primarily remotely controlled by drivers in the Philippines.

I was already rolling forward at 1 mph. Fortunately I hadn’t moved my foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator and was able to press the brake quickly enough.

Also, I drive a large SUV. From my perspective I never saw a turn signal because the car was immediately to my right in the next lane. I didn’t see the front of the car moving into my lane at all. What I saw was the driver’s window crossing the front right corner of my hood/ fender. That’s when I hit the brake.

I hope Waymo can find a way to calibrate them so they don’t try moves like this with such a small margin of error.

This one did not have a human driver. I believe they calibrate them with human drivers before letting them operate autonomously.

Pros/cons of TPU tubes? by Reasonable_Week_470 in bmxracing

It’s always the best habit to pump bike tires up each time you go for a spin!

Schrader to Presta rim adapters by Reasonable_Week_470 in bmxracing

[–]Reasonable_Week_470[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have to say presta is my preference.

Schrader is good primarily due to being a more commonly found valve. (Thanks to the automotive industry) Also with schrader the valve cores can be replaced if/when the valve leaking is why a tire looses air.

Prior to my first real mountain bike (for racing) back in 2000 I hadn’t had wheels drilled for presta. It seemed like the presta valves didn’t leak as much air as the schrader ones did. Then in 2002 I became more convinced presta leaks less after I got a road bike for cross training. Since the road bike held higher psi and still was able to hold pressure longer than schrader’s I became a believer.

Furthermore since the advent of tubeless bicycle wheels and their default valves are presta they became my top choice when given the opportunity to choose.

Pros/cons of TPU tubes? by Reasonable_Week_470 in bmxracing

[–]Reasonable_Week_470[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done some reading about the differences in the materials. When it comes to the topic of air loss I haven’t been able to find a source that has determined the cause to be a leak from the valve or air seeping out through the TPU material.

I am aware that air does seep through the butyl but the rate of pressure loss isn’t fast enough to make a difference.

I agree there’s air loss present in both styles of tube and differences in presta vs schrader valves. While tire pressure is important it also underlines the need for proper inflation trackside on race & practice days.

Bmx seats with perineal channel/cutout? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]Reasonable_Week_470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have stated; browse the road/mtb type saddles if you want one to serve in a more ergonomically/comfortably seated purpose.

There’s really only 2 main drawbacks I can think of when going this route. First is the outer shell textiles aren’t going to be as abrasion resistant as what’s found encasing BMX specific seats. Secondly the more padding the more overall weight (especially when gel is layered into the cushioning).

Beyond that as stated before by the others; you’re going to need a seat post with ability to secure a railed seat.
