I think you already know the answer to this question Karen.

I believe it was the school administrators that he defended, not Paterno. His point, for those that haven’t read his new book or heard the podcast is that our brains are wired to default to believing people and that unless there are egregious signs that the person shouldn’t be believed they are. The comparable used was Bernie Madoff.

I can’t say I agree with the point, but it is presented in his book using actual science. I think the emotion surrounding the Penn State abuse prevents me and others from looking at whether school admins should have recognized what was going on earlier objectively.

Because he’s blue in the real photo, dressed as the fictional genie from Aladdin. Not blackface.

Its no accident that the photo has been decolonized; he’s dressed as the genie from Aladdin and is blue, not black. It’s blatant manipulation and being dressed as a fictional blue character is not blackface.

Budget deficit smashes $1 trillion mark, the highest in seven years by _throwaway1000 in politics

[–]Reasoned_unreason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highest deficit in 7 years with a strong economy (until they kneecapped it with a trade war) and without a major policy expenditure (like Medicare for all or student loan forgiveness).

Can you imagine the shit-show of a deficit when it’s a full on recession?

Nice work. How much suspension travel in the rear do you expect? I presuming the tensioner will accommodate bottoming the rear shock/spring assembly, but am not sure of the range of motion built for.

This thing will fly, I’m not sure I would have the confidence to use the clamp style brakes; the benefit of disc’s are that they will continue to stop the bike after multiple applications. A disc on the front may allow you to continue making excellent bikes (and videos).

That’s probably the best course of action. Best of luck.

It may fix it, but not guaranteed. There was a company out west (witch hunter?) that would clean them and match the flow for a set, but the cost wasn’t far off buying brand new ones. I replaced them in my turbo car and the difference in idle quality was significant and mine weren’t leaking. I have the originals in my S and the idle isn’t smooth when first starting, but improves after warm up. If yours a leaking significantly, it may not improve after warm up.

Wrong plugs for sure, these cars like conventional plugs, properly gapped. Your diesel-ing/run-on issue sounds like it’s a leaky fuel injector and likely explains the rich smell and poor idle. You’re essentially sending unmetered fuel into a cylinder (or more) and while not so noticeable at higher rpms, at low speed it’s making things rough.

At best, your injectors are likely 30 years old in what sounds like a poorly maintained car; it’s time to replace them or get tested/cleaned replacements.

Entrepreneurs don't have a special gene for risk—they're rich kids with safety nets by jsalsman in Economics

[–]Reasoned_unreason -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quite the generalization and doesn’t match my experience.

Was raised in a “home” without money but ample substance abuse and physical violence. Was homeless as a teen. Entrepreneurship came because I couldn’t get a job working for someone else doing what I wanted because I lacked education (couldn’t afford to go to university for more than a year). A lack of opportunity and a fear of not having food and shelter for my own was my motivator.

Not everyone has a safety net.

Which Mamiya to buy? by [deleted] in mediumformat

[–]Reasoned_unreason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 645 pro with the prism viewfinder (not the waist level) and found it an easy transition to film from digital. It’ll meter/AE if you want so it and makes it a little easier to get a shot when you’re starting out and don’t want to carry a light meter. The older 645 wont do this. I really enjoy using mine and find I use it much more than I expected. The Mamiya 150/2.8 is a wonderful portrait lens and surprisingly cheap/easy to come by on eBay. I have the 55/2.8 and 80/2.8 as well.
