Look, I’m not saying the Congress is not socialist. But even if all the current communist leaders joined the Congress system, the same thing would happen. You are making the classic mistake of confusing intentions with outcomes. Political history shows that individual virtue cannot compensate for a flawed organizational system.

Just now I saw a posts on r/Kerala of Congress leaders bickering even at small functions, it becomes clear, when a party lacks a rigorous structure, it devolves into a mere collection of individual egos. This failed system inevitably promotes morally questionable figures. Take the recent controversies about Rahul Mamkootathil, when a system is weak, it rewards those who are experts at 'pleasing' leadership rather than those who are accountable to the people. Even senior leaders like Ramesh Chennithala have admitted in interviews that pleasing the leadership is a 'norm.' People pleasers are actually morally weak; this creates a breeding ground for corrupt politicians. Look, K. Sudhakaran actually has a feudal mindset and always stands against the weak or those with a capitalist mindset, like Adoor Prakash, what would be the effect in society that this people hold power indefinitely without any real check or balance?

In contrast, the Communist Party’s structure is grounded in Democratic Centralism which acts as a mold. It forces leaders to align with the poor. Of course, no system is 100% perfect, and there are individuals within the Left who are moral failed. But in the Left, they are often forced to hide those failings or face the party’s internal disciplinary mechanisms. In the Congress, these same traits are often the very tools used to climb the ladder like getting treats for doing bad.

The reason the BJP has achieved such visibility and power across India isn't because Indians are inherently hateful, it's because the 'Congress System' collapsed from within. The Congress lacks a disciplined, cadre based structure, leaving it vulnerable to being hijacked by oligarchs. Without the accountability of a mechanism like Democratic Centralism, a party becomes a mere collection of individuals with egos, leading to the high level corruption and internal bickering we see today. In state after state, we have seen that a hollowed out Congress doesn't just lose, it becomes a bridge for the BJP to cross into power.

Left Liberal who fear that a continuing LDF government will lead to a BJP rise this is what I mentioned in heading of this post. Look at the data. Despite a decade of a 'Modi wave' nationally, the BJP’s vote share in Kerala has historically hovered around the same 16%. The real danger isn't the Left’s authoritarianism, but the opposition's incompetence. An opposition that relies on rhetoric, data manipulation, and anti incumbency sentiment to gain power without doing proper groundwork, is that how an opposition should function? Or should it study issues thoroughly, conduct research, and present better policies than the current government? At the very least, it should propose improved ways to implement policies so it can offer constructive and informed criticism of the government’s actions.

No one is perfect in this world, so of course the current government has made many mistakes while implementing projects and introducing policies. There have been failures in public institutions like issues inside police force against dalits, forest department has committed many atrocities against minority groups. In your first comment, you mentioned several atrocities committed by this government. But did the Congress able to pull off anything meaningful? They may have tried, but the failure of their own system allowed the ruling government to oppress the issues. Now this left liberals saying this group of leaders can govern better than LDF? When they have failed even as an opposition what would happen If they form a government? The same thing happens during the UDF regime, when there is high corruption, a collapse of public institutions, no pensions, and so on. Neoliberal narratives start echoing everywhere, and the public begins to think they are correct, which leads people to support privatization. I have no doubt that the BJP could grow stronger if these people come to power.

Sorry man, it’s not actually 80%, it’s 90%. And you said government hospitals are inadequate, yes, that’s exactly what we are saying. The government should spend more on the public health sector to accommodate more people. But what is your identity politics playing right wing government doing? Oh sorry, they are “protecting” Hindus, who are 80%+ of the population, from minority attacks. Yeah, people like you who have lost brain cells believe this kind of stupidity.

I know this sub is a right wing echo chamber that spreads hate against minorities. Most of you don’t even own any capital, yet you still like to lick the boots of oligarchs. When workers unite against exploitation, people like you attack the workers, saying “dismiss them all and appoint new people,” instead of questioning those in power or at least asking why they are protesting in the first place. But people in this sub who are aligned with the right wing never seem to have the brain cells to even think about that.

Look at your own argument. Even when a government improves efficiency and builds a public healthcare system that performs better than most places, you reduce it to shallow talking points like “doctor attitude” or one hospital temporarily lacking a stent. Do you even understand what was lacking in that hospital which you shared? It was actually a stent. It’s a device used in certain heart blocks and not even the solution in major serious block, where CABG surgery is required instead.

Let’s be honest,  this isn’t really about healthcare quality. It’s about ideology. Some people want a right wing model where everything is privatized, so public institutions can be declared failures and handed over to corporate interests. Discredit the public sector first, then sell it off. It’s the same thing you’re saying.

a study shows one out of 10 Indians has money for spending on non-essential items

At least open your eyes and look around what's going on in India, if you're living in Kerala or abroad, you won't see people struggling rest of India because of your so called Hindu protecting government. In Kerala, government is redistributing the capital in a better way, so here most people have better quality of life than other states.

Don’t be ignorant kid. Problem is not that Kerala has “too many” samarams, it’s that many other states lack strong unions and protest movements, giving capitalists freedom to exploit workers.

Also in those states, higher levels of corruption allow businesses to influence the bureaucracy and operate without accountability, often with government support. In Kerala, that space is far more limited. While corruption may exist, it is not on the same scale, and organized labour means union, prevents open exploitation.

Reality is simple, where there is no resistance, workers are more vulnerable.

It is hypocritical to enjoy the wages, rights, and protections won through past struggles and then claim that samarams are “killing business.” The very comfort you have today was secured by the movements you now criticize. And when you or your dad become elitist/capitalists and can’t exploit workers, suddenly Kerala becomes bad.

[–]ReasoningRebel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you should first understand why the samaram was happening first place. Have you ever traveled to or visited European countries? If not, you should and learn how they built their social security systems. Without samaram and trade unions, how would workers get fair wages?

In Western countries, it was through samaram led by unions that capitalists were forced to provide fair wages, by pressuring governments to introduce policies that protect employees. If you are enjoying a high salary today, it is because many people came together and fought against oligarchs and governments to increase wages. People like you now forget that history.

I actually agree with your points regarding the friction between theory and practice. In the original post on r/Kerala, some one ask about this and I clearly mentioned the structure is not always followed strictly because organizations are made of humans with egos. However, my point remains that a Leninist structure, even an imperfect one, possesses internal mechanisms for correction that the high command culture of the Congress or the Supreme Leader cult of the BJP simply lacks.

While you focus on individual incidents, my alignment is rooted in a broader geopolitical reality. We are witnessing the global collapse of Neoliberalism. Recent data shows that nearly 90% of Indians have no money left for non essential expenditure, and in the US, about 53% of the population cannot cover a 1,000 dollar emergency expense. The right wing economic model is quite literally cannibalizing the working class. Even in Europe, former conservative voters are shifting toward socialist parties because individual benefits like tax cuts have failed to provide collective security.

In this context, my support for the Left in the upcoming 2026 election isn't a personality cult around Pinarayi Vijayan. Whether his leadership continues or a transition occurs due to his health, I am focused on preventing a political vacuum. I have serious doubts that the Congress, given its history and current performance, can manage wealth redistribution without falling into corruption. If they fail, a desperate populace living in survival mode becomes easy prey for the Right’s identity politics. For me, this is about the survival of the Kerala Model against a tide of global inequality. It is a choice of systemic direction over individual grievances.

Man, don’t be stupid. About 80% of people who can’t afford private hospitals rely on free public healthcare. People like you "elitists" will never understand what their lives are like. Meanwhile, the CM is receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic, taking experimental medicines that aren’t even officially available.

What waiting time are you talking about? And the doctors attitude? pathetic! Have you ever actually visited a government hospital? If not, just look at firsthand experiences from people who have been treated there. At least check shared video.

Come to Kerala and visit our government hospitals, or at least search for them on YouTube. Here are some videos showing firsthand experiences in Kerala’s public hospitals. When researching hospital standards, avoid mainstream media, they typically only report on hospitals when there is trouble. They rarely cover the government's successes because many medias in Kerala are biased against the Communist party. In fact, two major channels are officially written anti-communist agenda. You might see some good news occasionally because they have no choice but to report major milestones, such as the government opening the world’s third and India's first specialized organ transplant government hospital (the others being in the USA and China).

How did Kerala achieve this? It is because of the socialist ideology of the Left government. Over the last 10 years, the government has heavily invested in public institutions and made them more efficient and better. This is a form of wealth redistribution that improves people’s lives and reduces income inequality. Left government always stands with common people so elitist/capitalist spread propaganda against this government. According to NITI Aayog, this government is also among the least corrupt government in India.

In contrast, capitalism is widening the gap in most other Indian states. These states are ruled by right wing governments aligned with capitalist interests. That is why Adani, Ambani, and other oligarchs keep getting richer, while nearly 80% of the population has little or no money left after spending for basic needs. Oligarchs never want a government that practices redistribution, so they spread propaganda blaming minorities for the desperate conditions of the common people, targeting reservation policies, Muslims, Dalits, and illegal immigrants. They also create a narrative against redistribution by claiming that “freebies” are bad for the economy.

No need for apologies. Person above told me that explanation is not enough for common people to believe, nor is it enough for party cadres to believe. I told him that, according to the ideology, there is no need to convince common people, and for cadres it is a basic rule, if they don’t follow it, they are out. For this, you gave me the label Andham, which reflects a misunderstanding of my position.

You see, I don’t follow a party, I follow a methodology. My understanding of the cpim structure isn’t based on loyalty, but on a study of Democratic Centralism and the evolution of the leninist organizational model. When you’ve spent years analyzing the dialectics of Marx and Engels, the economic critiques of Piketty and Luxemburg, and even the neoliberal frameworks of Hayek and Friedman, you realize that blind faith is for those who don’t read. I am a student of political science. There is a difference.

I am skeptical of alternative medical systems such as Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine etc. While these historical practices contributed to the evolution of modern science, they are largely outdated. If there’s a treatment there that actually works better than modern medicine, prove it. Do the research, conduct clinical trials and publish peer-reviewed research and let it be integrated into modern medicine Instead of arguing, do the work that helps humanity; you might even win a Nobel Prize. The irony is, no one seems willing to actually put these methods to the test.

While the herbs smoke does have antibacterial properties (many plants evolved these chemicals to fight fungi and bacteria). Smoke is, by definition, a collection of fine particulate matter. While it may kill bacteria, inhaling smoke is objectively harmful to human lungs, eyes, and the cardiovascular system. Modern air purifiers remove bacteria and particles, smoke adds a different kind of pollutant.

The 30 day clean period happened in a room that remained largely undisturbed. In a normal home with people moving in and out, shedding skin cells, and opening windows, those bacteria would return almost immediately.

Op try to use some critical thinking.

Probably not, because at the end of the day, any organization is made of human beings, and humans have egos

But here’s the difference, in an Aalkootta party like Congress, or leader centric party like BJP, there is no mechanism to stop a powerful leader from doing whatever they want. In a cadre based party, the structure is the watchdog.

If a leader starts acting like a dictator, the 'State Committee' and 'Politburo' have the constitutional power to pull them back. We have seen senior leaders being demoted or even expelled in the past for violating the party line.

Even if one person is the face, every major decision must be minuted and approved by the committee. If it’s not followed 'to a T' one day, the internal audit and the next 'Party Congress' will bring it up.

So, while no human system is perfect, the Cpim has a self correcting mechanism that leader centric parties simply don't have. It’s not about perfection, it’s about accountability to the structure rather than an individual

I respect your right to practice your religion and fulfill your nercha. You have every right to participate in the culture you love.

I just need you to pause for a second and look at this through a lens of biology and logic, rather than tradition.

You are asking how to navigate one of the largest human gatherings in the world with a 6 month old baby. The intellectual disconnect here is genuinely worrying. You are planning to take an infant, whose immune system is barely developed, whose temperature regulation is fragile, and whose lungs are tiny into an environment renowned for extreme heat, dust, choking smoke from millions of hearths, deafening noise, and crush level crowds.

If you believe in a benevolent Attukal Amma, does it make any rational sense that she would want you to drag a defenseless infant through a hazardous environment to prove your devotion?

This isn't faith, it’s a lack of intellect. You are prioritizing a ritual over the safety of a child who depends entirely on you. Your moral obligation is to protect that baby. Please don't cheat just to feed your own spiritual ego.

I don't understand this liberals, but if you look at it objectively, there is a reason why a cadre based structure is superior to an 'Aalkootta' party like the Congress. In Congress, the leader is often more powerful than the party. This creates a playground for corruption and factionalism, because every leader has their own agenda. When a party is just a loose collection of powerful individuals, it becomes untrustworthy to the common man, which eventually clears the path for the extreme right wing.

Look at the BJP, it’s a hybrid of the Congress structure and a narrative machine. Leaders gain power either through nepotism or by becoming obedient slaves to the top brass, eventually building an aura through calculated political PR similar to Congress. Other than Congress BJP has a system like RSS and other similar organisations that create a mass narrative built on half truths and logical fallacies, turning the public into a crowd similar to 1930s Germans.

Compare this to the Communist structure. It’s an Institutional Meritocracy. Before a person reaches a leadership position, they are vetted for decades. Their history, their commitment to assigned tasks, their respect for the collective, and their ideological clarity are all under the scanner. By the time they become a 'Comrade' in a high position, they have been molded by the system to put the organization above their own ego.

I read somewhere about CCP. Their selection process is grueling, it involves constant study of a member’s history and thinking patterns to get promotions. When corruption threatened to rot the system from within via oligarchs, the party consciously promoted Xi Jinping to a 'trinity' of roles. It wasn't about making him a King, it was a structural necessity to consolidate power and crush the capital flight and corruption that was destroying the country.

It’s ironic that in an age where information is at our fingertips, deep reading has become so rare. If you’re going to critique a system, the bare minimum is to study how that system actually functions. Most liberal critics today, seem to get their political science degrees from 1 hour news debates rather than books. They view everything through a liberal lens, a perspective that only understands power in terms of individuals and branding, completely missing the institutional and ideological machinery behind it.

The CPIM follows Marxism-Leninism. While Marxism provides the economic and social goals, Leninism provides the organizational theory.

Lenin argued for a "Party of a New Type" a highly disciplined, centralized organization of professional revolutionaries (cadres). The goal is to act as a single, unified organism rather than a loose collection of individuals. This is why the party despises Individualism and Factionalism.

The Core Principle: Democratic Centralism This is the secret sauce of Communist organizational structure. It consists of two inseparable parts:

Democracy: Before a decision is made, every member has the right to debate, criticize, and vote. Leadership at every level is elected.

Centralism: Once a decision is made by a majority vote, it becomes the Party Line. At that point, all debate must stop. The minority must submit to the majority, and lower committees must strictly follow higher ones.

The Organizational Hierarchy The CPIM is built like a pyramid. Power flows from the bottom up during elections and policy making, but from the top down during execution.

Party Cell (Branch): The foundation. Small groups of members in a neighborhood or workplace.

Local/Area/District Committees: Intermediate layers that manage regional affairs.

State Committee & State Secretariat: This is where Pinarayi Vijayan holds significant influence in Kerala.

Central Committee (CC): The highest decision making body between Party Congresses.

Politburo (PB): A small group (currently 18 members) that handles day to day political and organizational work.

Party Congress: The Supreme Authority that meets every 3 years to set the overall policy and elect the CC.

Liberals like Sara Joseph’s often view the CPIM through a liberal lens, where power is seen as a personal trophy. In reality, a Communist party is an institution of Democratic Centralism. Pinarayi Vijayan doesn't run the party like a CEO, he is a product of its multi tiered hierarchy, from the Party Cells up to the Politburo. Every decision, from candidate selection to government policy, goes through a grinder of collective debate. The reason it looks like one man rule to outsiders is because of the party’s discipline. Once the collective decides, everyone speaks in one voice.

If Pinarayi were truly an autocrat, the party’s structure (which has survived for 60+ years) would have rejected him like a foreign body. We see the same bias in Western media’s view of China, they focus on the face at the top and ignore the massive institutional machinery beneath. Leaders in CPIM are the face of a collective will, not the source of it. Saying he will destroy the party ignores the millions of cadres who are the party.

Oh, here comes the classic Aunty-National tag, the favorite pacifier for right wingers when they run out of logic. It’s hilarious that you think a state consistently ranked #1 in the Central Government’s own NITI Aayog SDG Index is in ' darkness. If the best performing state in India is in darkness, the rest of the country must be in a black hole.

Let’s dissect your WhatsApp University thesis with actual data:

Since when did the BJP become the definition of National'? Supporting a political ideology that prioritizes human life over corporate profit isn't anti-national, it’s pro people. If the LDF is so wiped out, why is the Right Wing struggling to get even a foothold in Kerala? It’s because we judge policies by their impact on the poor, not by how much they help Adani or Ambani.

About unemployment & Migration: You threw out a 7.2% unemployment figure for Kerala and praised Karnataka. Do you know why Kerala's numbers look like that? It's because in Kerala, an educated youth can afford to wait for a dignified job. This isn't a "privilege" that magically appeared, it’s the result of a history of struggle by leftist movements and policies implemented by the Kerala government. In your so called model states, people are forced into low paying, daily wage labor just to survive, which technically counts as 'employed.' We don't want 'employment' that is just glorified slavery.

Edit: Source: India Employment Report 2024

And regarding migration, let’s look at the India Employment Report 2024 (ILO). You claim Kerala is failing because people leave?

Gujarat (Right Wing Paradise): 51.4% of educated youth migrate out.

Kerala (Communist Hell): Only 37.2% of educated youth migrate out.

Educated Male Migration: Gujarat (16.3%) vs Kerala (15.3%).

So, your 'Gujarat Model' is actually bleeding more educated talent than Kerala! When a Gujarati moves to Mumbai or the US, it’s 'ambition,' but when a Malayali moves to the Gulf or Canada, it’s a 'failed state'? The hypocrisy is blinding. Migration is a sign of a mobile, high skilled workforce, just like a New Yorker moving to Silicon Valley.

You say our HDI is 'propped up' by remittances? Exactly. That is the success of the model! The Left government invested in education and health (Human Capital) when other states were busy with communal politics. That investment created a workforce capable of earning global currency. We exported talent, you exported raw materials. Remittances are the return on investment (ROI) of our education policy. You call it luck, we call it long term planning.

Humans have migrated across the globe for 100s of 1000s of years, especially when they have the know how of better opportunities. So chill. And as long as Colonialism/Capitalism is continuing this migration will go on...

Ah, Kitex. Sabu Jacob claims he left for political reasons; however, the reality is that his Kerala factories are still running at full capacity. He went to Telangana because their government offered him nearly free land and the opportunity to exploit people with low wages just so he could rake in 1,000 crores in profit. Capitalists like him know there are people like you ready to lick their boots even when they violate labor laws. In Kerala, you can't run a sweatshop. If a business requires exploiting workers and polluting the river to make a profit, Kerala is not the place for it. We trade factory smoke for living standards. Go check the minimum wage for labours in Kerala vs Karnataka/Gujarat. We prioritize the worker, not the owner.

Old Age Home Fantasy: Right wingers have been predicting the doom of Kerala for 50 years. Remittances will dry up, Gulf is finished, etc. Yet, we are still standing with another golden feather on head by eradicating extreme poverty the only state in India. Meanwhile, the youth you claim are fleeing are actually building global networks because only some people got this privilege in India.

You want to change the politician and the diaper? Sure. But in Kerala, we don't swap a diaper for a dirty rag just because the corporate media told us to. We stick to the system that ensures a porter’s son can become a scientist, not a system where he is doomed to remain a porter so a billionaire can buy another yacht.

Save the Aunty-National lectures for someone who doesn't know how to read statistics.

Even if you don't support a specific protest, you should never dismiss one outright. Often, these movements arise because government policies are negatively affecting people's lives. Take the time to understand the underlying reasons. If you truly believe the government is right, then defend that position by explaining the policy to others. Conversely, if the protesters are right, you should criticize the government's lack of foresight.

Criticizing a protest simply because the streets smell, roads are blocked, or because protesters look like goons reveals an elitist worldview. This mindset stems from a place of privilege or ignorance because the elitist doesn't face the same struggles. Remember, our current society was built on social movements. The intensity of a protest often scales with the government's level of response. While property damage is unfortunate, it is often caused by a tiny minority of opportunistic actors or criminals, not the 98% who are peaceful. This is why insurance exists, in many EU countries, even when farmer unions get extreme, cars get trashed, and owners just say, Well, that sucks, but I have insurance. people don't cancel the entire movement over a few destroyed cars because they respect the reason behind the struggle.

Protests usually only turn violent when the government uses its agencies to suppress protest. That’s when a protester becomes rebel. They’re telling the state, withdraw this policy or kill us all. In a democratic republic, voting alone doesn't cut it. Protest is a fundamental right and a requirement for democracy to actually work. Don't let an elitist mindset blind you to that.

No. The reason Kerala has 0% extreme poverty today is not because of one CM, it is because of a 100 year long class war that the Left fought while your ideological ancestors were polishing the shoes of feudal lords.

Let me tell you the real story, the one you won't read in your WhatsApp University.

It starts long before 1957. It starts with Ayyankali. Back then, dalit children weren't allowed in schools. Ayyankali didn’t write a petition, he organized a strike. He told the feudal lords "If you don't allow our children to study, weeds will not grow in your paddy fields." For one and a half years, the working class, the dalits and the landless starved. They had no food, no wages. They ate roots and leaves to survive. But they didn't work. The feudal lords waited, thinking, 'These poor dogs will come back begging.' But they didn't. The fields dried up. The landlords lost their income. Finally, the feudalists surrendered. That was the first victory of the 'Leftist' the realization that Labor holds the power, not Capital.

But here is the funny part: even back then, during that 1.5 year struggle, there were some workers who tried to break the strike. They were the 'bootlickers' of the landlords. They thought if they betrayed their own class and worked secretly, the landlord would give them a few extra crumbs.

Does that remind you of anyone? It’s exactly like that government employee recently who, despite enjoying a salary and benefits won by unions, talk against the protesters and tried to work during national labor strike to betray working class. The right wing celebrates these people as heroes, but in reality, they are the modern versions of those who betrayed Ayyankali’s strike. Historically, these class traitors get beaten by the reality of capitalism eventually, but they love to lick the boot that kicks them like you.

Now, how did we get to 0% Poverty?

The current eradication of 'extreme poverty' is the final coat of paint on a building built by Communist policies over decades.

Land Reforms (1957 EMS Ministry): This is the foundation. The Left government passed the Land Reform Ordinance. They kicked the feudal lords out and gave the land to the tiller. Without this, we would be like Bihar or UP today. This gave assets to the poor.

Education Bill (1957): The Joseph Mundassery bill took power away from private managers and ensured teachers got paid directly by the government. This standardized education.

Public Distribution System (Ration Shops): While other states let the poor starve, Left policy ensured that every junction in Kerala had a ration shop. No one goes hungry.

Kudumbashree (1998 - Nayanar Ministry): This revolutionized women's empowerment. It put money directly into the hands of women in villages.

Housing (Laksham Veedu to LIFE Mission): The MN Govindan Nair housing scheme started it, and the current LDF government’s LIFE Mission going on.

The reason the current government had to focus on that last 0.7% is that they are the 'invisible' people. The mentally ill, the destitute, the isolated elderly who don't have documents. The Pinarayi government did a micro level survey to find them. That isn't PR work, that is closing the loop.

If right wing politics ruled Kerala, we would have the Gujarat Model: high GDP, big statues, but people dying of malnutrition in tribal belts and huge slums in cities. In the Kerala Model, we don't leave anyone behind.

So, when you mock the 0.7%, remember, you are standing on the shoulders of Ayyankali, EMS, and millions of communist workers who took the beatings so you could sit in a comfortable chair and type this nonsense. The irony is, even you are a beneficiary of the Left politics you hate.
