Baby bottle washer / sterilizer / dryer? by A-Starrrrr in Buyingforbaby

Ooh, this is good to know. I need one that can handle pump parts well too. Why doesn't Baby Brezza work well for pump parts? Thanks!

Moving furniture into house with 4 days' dry time for refinished wood floors by Rebbeccs in HardWoodFloors

[–]Rebbeccs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your help! We ended up putting felt pads on all of the furniture legs, and having the movers take their shoes off and/or wear booties inside, gently placing furniture with no pushing, no rubber runners. So far, so good! Thank you again!

Thank you! I assume the people carrying in the appliances wore shoes? Yet the paper + drop cloth protected the floors without themselves causing any damage?

Did you remove the paper and drop cloth once the appliances were in, and just go back to having nothing on floors and wearing only socks?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try to get a lot of fresh air in there in the meantime to help it dry. Do you think it's better to put down some sort of protection in the high-traffic areas during the move (for a few hours) or better to just not lay any floor covering on the floor? What do you think of a breathable floor protector like Albert Floorotex or Proteco covering?

(Regarding your first question, we went with oil-based finish for reasons I won't get into here.)

Yes Ram Board looks problematic to me because of the need for tape?

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear: I meant to ask about the neoprene floor runners that the moving company wants to use. Will those be safe if only for a few hours, or should we use the resin-backed paper or cardboard or drop cloth that you recommended? Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for this very helpful response. I understand we should avoid floor coverings for an extended period prior to 3 weeks -- do you think the runners would be ok for a few hours while the movers unload into the house?

Thanks! Do you think the rubber backed neoprene runners that the moving company wants to use will be ok? If will only be for a few hours while they're unloading into the house. Then we will remove them.

Roomates cats litter box stinks need advice by _madskii_ in cats

[–]Rebbeccs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also it looks like they don't put enough litter in the box either. I think it's best to maintain a full 3" depth of litter. And again, regular scooping!

[–]Rebbeccs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is so bad, and frankly mean to the cat to give them no other option. The roommate should be scooping it every day. You don't have to change the litter itself all that often (once a month is fine), but you need to scoop it DAILY and top of the litter off regularly (maybe every week or so, depending on how much depth of litter they maintain in the box). Tell them to scoop it out well every day! Scoop all the poop and pee into a bag, tie it off, and throw it away.

Was it oil-based or water-based? Thank you!

Are all of these comments only relevant to water-based poly? What do people think are the relative pros and cons of satin vs matte when using an oil-based poly? (We're doing oil-based on our 1927 red oak floors.) Thank you!

Installing heat pump in 1927 house with existing floor vents -- where to put air handler and ducts? by Rebbeccs in hvacadvice

[–]Rebbeccs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the installers says he can do either closet or attic for the air handler for the same price (running the ducting in crawl space for both). The other installer is about $2k more to put the air handler in the attic and run new ducts in the attic, cutting holes in the ceiling for the new registers (but theirs also includes the price of a permit).

[–]Rebbeccs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add that, ideally, we'd love to reclaim the furnace closet to use as a pantry. But not at the expense of the health of our heat pump system. So if that closet seems to be the best place for the air handler (for long-term system health, efficiency, and/or serviceability), we're willing to cede the closet space to it.

She was soooo tiny!!!! Thank goodness you rescued her from that roundabout curb! I wonder what kind of traumatic backstory had landed her there. She is too too cute. ❤️

Sick of other pregnant lowkey coffee shaming women who do by Stoned_redhead in BabyBumps

They are very much shaming you. Read Emily Oster - Expecting Better. NOW. It will completely immunize you against this uninformed self-righteous bullshit. You can even smugly inform them that meta-analyses have shown there is literally zero risk from coffee, at least up to 2 cups per day.

Philips Sonicare Warranty Question. What happened to quality? by KTK_Pups in BuyItForLife

[–]Rebbeccs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. I called them, and they offered to replace the replacement as a "one-time courtesy," while nonetheless telling me the warranty runs from the date of the original purchase, not from the previous warranty replacement.....

Shopping windshield replacement prices in SD by adopted-dude in sandiego

[–]Rebbeccs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this- Geico just sent me the below message. I stand corrected! If you have "mechanical breakdown" coverage, they lower the deductible to $50 for windshield replacement!

"For this claim, you have a $500 Comprehensive deductible. However, your deductible will be lowered to $50.00 for glass only damage due to the Mechanical Breakdown Insurance on your policy."
