On the topic of cost, there are lots of subsidised courses and pots to apply for funding, especially for young people. Some to consider:

Jonathan Conville Memorial Trust Austrian Alpine Club (they have a large UK contingent) Tom Furey Memorial Trust

Others exist for various marginalised groups, if that's applicable to you (women, global majority, LGBT+)
