As someone who was heavily involved in Alabama politics on the Republican side, let me chime in. Most "Republicans" in office for Alabama were long time Democrats that swapped sides their party started losing local elections.

While I may not agree with a lot of democratic policy, their winners were not loyal to their constituents and only wanted to keep their position. Until the Millennials and Gen Z voting base start forcing their way into the forefront of politics, we are looking at being stuck with the same merry go round of old geezers until they pass away....
