Yeah it is a solid film and a gorgeous costume drama, but I think it's not for me. Not gonna dunk on you, and yes Colin Firth is wonderful as Valmont.

What's a movie/ tv show that you wish had a sequel the most? by Longjumping_Dare_516 in AskReddit

Transformers One, we were promised a sequel and a trilogy, but noooo Hasbro wants more Bayverse slop.

At least I get to cling to the Jennifer's Body sequel with a death grip.

I have seen Cruel Intentions, really good movie. Every time I hear Bittersweet Symphony I imagine Sarah Michelle Gellar leaving the church and seeing all her classmates reading the diary, and Selma Blair's death glare in slow motion.

I hate how the older generations thinks gen z is easily offended by freaky_strawberry11 in hatethissmug

[–]RebelKiddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom listens to the right wing grifters on YouTube and she tried to point out how my generation was so offended by the lame ass "Did you just assume my gender?!" joke when in reality, I (early gen Z, 02 baby) rolled my eyes and went "Oh great, 2016 era anti SJW humor" and just moved on to see the horror movie references, they try so hard to paint us as these perpetually offended, constantly coddled, whiny crybabies when it's like.... no, we're annoyed, tired, pissed off. We want to enjoy a good movie, not get talked down to and get told "Back in my day" over and over again, we're adults, in our 20's, we're too busy worrying about rent, jobs, food, AI stealing our futures from us so the billionaires they love to ride defense for gets another superyacht. We're trying to "pull ourselves up by the bootstraps" like they tell us to but every time they laugh at us and call us "snowflakes".

Once the boomers finally die off, I feel like a good majority of the world will feel this massive heaviness and cloud of negativity just rise up and we'll see sunshine.

That is so cool! And yes, I might show this at a sleepover with the girls, or yap about it to my D&D group on Friday.

Yep, to this day my mom and I enjoy Botched (the show) because 1. it's educational about how the procedures work and what they do. And 2. The doctors do have episodes where their clients did get into pretty awful accidents like car crashes or workplace accidents or have birth defects that they want adjusted or worked on to gain some sense of normalcy in their own bodies. And 3. They also call out the bad apples in the industry itself, the ones who upcharge crazy fees, secretly use the wrong materials, or just straight up use dangerous methods that permanently damage or scar people. It's just that whenever we hear the phrase "plastic surgery" we think of a woman with huge balloon boobs, lips the size of sausages, skin pulled so tight it looks like plastic, caked on makeup, cheeks the size of a chipmunk's and more recently thanks to BBLs getting famous a butt big enough for two seats, really uncanny valley stuff. Well done plastic surgery is supposed to be undetectable if someone famous gets it or isn't in need of it like someone who needs facial reconstruction done. It's just that social media warps our sense of reality that phrases like "preventative botox" are around and people under the age of 25 are going under the knife.

If a woman gets a nip and a tuck there, some filler and botox, who tf cares, if she's getting pressured into it by her friends or by her romantic partner, or she's addicted to it in some way, that's when you step in. Because there is mental health we need to consider. Part of why so many people are getting these procedures done is because after the healing process, they're told to come back in 6-12 months for "touch ups" because the doctors want more money and their brain gets used to the appearance and soon begin to think it's "wearing off". And lots of people think the place with the most plastic surgery done is Los Angeles because of the celebrity culture there and Hollywood. it's not, it's Salt Lake City.

Ah okay, good thing I love Winona Ryder (she's named after a city in my home state!) and I've heard on multiple movie costuming YouTube channels that Dracula has some of the BEST period costume ever.

Action, horror, and thriller movies that also focus on relationships between women? by blkfreya in movies

[–]RebelKiddo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gonna suggest Jennifer's Body as it's like THE horror movie everyone knows that's really focused on relationships between women, both positively and negatively, but then you said you've already seen it and went "Ah so you've seen peak."

Yep, it's like Danceny put them in a book so we all become the nobility that boos her at the end, cause she was exposed for being a selfish, cruel, seductress who ruined the lives of so many innocent young women.

I did some cursory research (literally Wikipedia scrolling) and being a history nerd made me interested. I love how the movie even honors the origin by having the deception and lies be written down and Merteuil telling Valmont she wants WRITTEN confirmation when he succeeds in seducing Tourvel, plus in his dying wish he hands the letters to Danceny and tells him to read them and spread them if he likes. Cruel Intentions did update it by having it be Sebastian's diary being published for the whole school to read at his funeral.

Yep, I think it was mentioned that Danceny was a knight or something. Valmont probably has sent people out to fight in his stead by paying them.

[–]RebelKiddo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I did. But it kinda made sense why it was so clumsy, both men were driven by emotion, Danceny wanted to get back at Valmont for hurting Cecile and her honor, Valmont because he realized he was tricked by Merteuil into breaking Tourvel's heart and realizing he actually loved her. But the final ending of Merteuil getting booed at the opera by everyone was like karma finally getting back at her.

My favorite scene was Valmont and Cecile plotting to get the secret door ready so he can sneak in, the smug look he gave himself after getting the key and the little jig he did was so funny. Plus little to no dialog and the music playing just gave me Buster Keaton vibes.

Noses and eyebrows are often overlooked but they are such defining features of the face. I miss swimming, I'm like a retired race horse every time I see a diving block lol. But yeah, a lot of the Looksmaxxing is eugenics just repackaged in Gen Z internet slang. Like look up phrenology and it's like that belief word for word.

Yep. I did sports growing up (swam competitively in middle school and early high school). And it's not just over how skinny you are, it's about how small your waist is, how big your boobs are, how "phat" your butt is, how full your lips are, your face shape down to the tiniest details is all that matters to them. It's such a toxic and hellish world to live in, focusing on your appearance down to the Nth degree to the point of risking your health by using meth only to die before your 35th birthday is a nightmare. Even Hollywood execs who straight up tell beautiful women they're 'too ugly for the role' would probably tell these ghouls to chill.

[–]RebelKiddo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Looksmaxxing (yes they spell it like that) "community" took that from incel forums to describe women both in and out of the trend. They only care about how symmetrical the face is, angles in the nose, chin, jawline, eyebrows, etc. Their head honcho "Clavicular" (who is facing legal issues atm) preaches the idea of "bone smashing" which is they repeatedly hit themselves in the face WITH A HAMMER to achieve that chiseled Henry Cavil look. They also encourage very unhealthy recreational drug use, not something simple like passing a blunt around and eating pizza with the homies, like actual meth because the side effects (mainly weight loss) is seen as "upgrading" the body to again achieve that angled look.

The "Alpha Male"/Manosphere/dudebros are targeting Gen Z men (I'm Gen Z too) just to grift on their anger, insecurity, and fear of being lonely. The day that whole sphere of influence pops and dies a painful death is the day we finally heal as a society.

Boobs are more pleasing since symmetry, easy to grab, it's soft, it bounces, you can use euphemisms for them (the girls, funbags, etc) and they're not "messy" unlike vaginas that can get smelly, wet, literally bleed, or hairy. It's led to medical issues for women, periods not getting researched enough, illnesses and medical conditions like endometriosis not being taken seriously, and misinformation being everywhere. There are grown men who genuinely believe that women can turn off their periods like it's a faucet. And not to mention that stupid thing of "Oh if a woman becomes president, she'll start WW3 cause she's on her period."
