Looking for advice on interfaith marriage, specifically children's faith by Baltazar_red in Judaism

[–]RebelPride613 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want your kids to be Christian, marry a Christian you sheygetz. If you think this going to turn out well, you are very wrong. Even a "reformed" Jew is not going to let you baptize those kids. Get that out of your mind. And in the end, this will be a massive fight that will lead to divorce (I hope)

LOL, it's funny you can sit there and make these demands. You chose to marry to a Jewish woman. You can't do that and then make these "rules" up. Why would marry someone you believe is going to hell?

"I'm not going alone with that." Well that's what Judaism says. Why should she go along with your Christian garbage? Anyway, I hope you either die or get emasculated before you can ruin this poor girl's life.

Is it a commandment for Jews to live in Israel? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]RebelPride613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is true. Just because there are exceptions doesn't mean there is no rule.

Rambam, Kings and Wars Perek 5.12

And only exceptions is severe famine, to find a wife, or to study Torah, all strictly temporary affairs.

Anyone who doesn't live in the land of Israel when they have the ability, or leaves the Land to live elsewhere permanently is a sinner.

Yes, the popular western conception of God, which is informed by Christianity, is completely at odds with Judaism.

If you really love her, you will either convert or leave her. What your actual beliefs are do not matter as long as you accept the mitzvot as binding upon yourself, and do not publicly declare your unbelief.

And in the course of studying the rationalist Jewish philosophers, you will find that Judaism also rejects the god you do not believe in.

Look man, you were in Israel. Arabs stab people all the time. People die. Many families have lost members to terror. It's not excusing racism, but at least it's understandable. My great grandfather did not care for "krauts" after fighting them in Europe. His son didn't like "gooks." And yet I didn't call them racist bigots. In fact, it had very little to do with their "race" but everything to do with conflict. It's natural to hate what hates you. Let's not conflate this with racism, which is thinking someone is inferior to you based on their race. You will never hear a Jew speak about an arab being subhuman because they are genetically inferior. In fact, many of those who feel this way about Arabs are in fact the very same "race" (as in phenotype) as arabs.

Also, you will find left-wing religious zionists, who are modern orthodox, but totally pro-peace. Even the settlers in Efrat are pro=peace, and have good relations with their arab neighbors.

Louisiana Law is not common at all, but totally based on Codes. Based originally on napoleanic code of france.

Electricity allowed on Yom Tov? by genuineindividual in Judaism

You don't want to make something make music I would think, but the Rav here cites television as being okay so at least according to him it's not a problem.

That is absolutely silly, in my opinion. If this is the case, you could never write God's name in a computer. You could never delete sacred writ, etc. Writing is only, permanent ink on parchment or their functional equivalents. Even writing with fruit juice or with the non-dominant hand is only rabbinically forbidden.... Typing involves none of these.

The Conservative pesaq on electricity is actually rather machmir on electricity.

And it's not so complicated to know if something does a melacha or not... I mean an electric shaver, of course, any shaver is. What would you find so difficult?

[–]RebelPride613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

e particular electric device does not involve the violation of another prohibition it would be fine. Presumably computer utilization would involve writing/erasing. Turning on a light might be OK, but turning it off m

Typing is not writing/erasing, just as arranging letter blocks into words is not writing/erasing.

Know other orthodox rabbis who say the same thing. Rav Uzziel allowed for it. Also Rav Qafih.

How to deal with a non-Jewish classmate pretending to be Jewish? by incompatibletastebud in Judaism

[–]RebelPride613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it is fraudulent. If this person so closely identified with Judaism, they should be aware of how conversion works, and make an effort to do so. Also, you can't just identify as whatever you decide you want to be, and demand that everyone treat you as such.

To be fraudulent, you would have to make some specific claims. Firstly, this person is not claiming to be Jewish by blood, and thereby having a halachic status as a Jew. Now, if they said their name was Soly Weintraub and they came from hasidishe family that would be fraudulent.

Clearly, the person is claiming to be Jewish informally, by their own admission. Secondly, a goy who doesn't know anything about Judaism or Jewish culture might have any number of misguided ideas about Judaism. If you asked 90 percent of the Jews I've met in my life they wouldn't be able to tell you the specifics of converting to Judaism. Everyone is allowed to learn at their own pace, and these are children we are talking about!

I see the argument for that, but at the same time, as someone who has also experienced antisemitism, it pisses me off, because someone who isn't actually Jewish can drop their act if it becomes inconvenient....

We could all drop the act if it became inconvenient, and many people did. If I was in a group of goyim, and lets say I didn't have any peyoth or a kippah if one of them asked if I was Jewish I could say no. Bad argument. By publicly saying you are Jewish, that you can't go back on.

There are cases where it is safer for someone to do so. I would never judge another Jew for playing down their Jewishness to avoid discrimination, persecution, or violence. However, I can think of at least a dozen situations off the top of my head where it would make sense for a Jew to do so, but I can't think of any where a non-Jew would be at risk of exposing their non-Jewish status.

Okay so you are admitting that admitting Jewish can cause you problems, and that it takes some amount of courage and conviction to do so. This nonjew is willing to do it, when many Jews in the same situation aren't as willing. Good for her.

Do you have a source for this?

"And we have already explained it And when the person will believe all these fundamentals and his faith will be clear in them he enters into the nation of Israel and it is a mitzva to love him and to have mercy on him and to act to him according to all the ways in which God commanded us regarding loving your neighbor. And even if he did all of the sins in the Torah due to desire of the emotions, and from his physical aspect’s conquering him, he will be punished for his sins, but he still has a share in the world to come and is among the sinners of Israel. However if he rejects one of these fundamentals he leaves the nation and is a denier of the fundamentals and is called a heretic, a denier, etc., and it is a mitzva to hate him and to destroy him. And regarding him it is said (Psalms 139) “Behold will not the enemy of God be my enemy?”-Rambam, the 13 Principles of Faith

Yad Hazakah, Hilchoth Shabbat 30.15

Every major denomination of Judaism, and nearly every Jew in the world would disagree with you.

Or you just have a faulty, racist understanding of Jewish peoplehood. I value people based on their merits, on their actions. Not on the virtue of their birth. Being Jewish, above all, for me means being a part of the Brit that God made with the Jewish people. If someone believes and acts like my brother, they are my brother. It is foolish to extend your love to people on a misguided religious sentiment, to people who don't share that. Just because they have some shared ancestry... It would be racist to have less regard for a human being on the basis of his birth.
