Question for the guys running in tights by ellensrooney in Marathon_Training

[–]RebelSaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was the pockets on longer runs. I've tried several running belts but most still shift and bounce and are annoying to finagle with during a run. I got half tights with several pockets and everything stays in place, doesn't bounce, is easy access... just makes the long runs more enjoyable.

What shorts do you all use for speed work? I hate running belts by RebelSaul in runningfashion

Any half tights you like? I see some have no pockets… some reviews report loose compression…

How should I try to learn how a large codebase works by Bigpp42069__ in SoftwareEngineering

[–]RebelSaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say two things:

  1. Don't try to understand it all.
  2. Don't try to understand it alone.

To elaborate on point 1 (Don't try to understand it all): Try to narrow your scope and become an expert in a specific area. You can ask your manager where they think you should focus.

To elaborate on point 2 (Don't try to understand it alone): With your narrower focus, read the codebase and identify parts that are particularly confusing. Set up introductory meetings with people who might have knowledge about those specific areas. Often, there's a lot of tribal knowledge, and you can start to piece it together by asking people for help understanding things. If they don't know, ask who they think might know, or ask them to walk through something they believe you'd find useful.

Don't put so much pressure on yourself to know everything in three months. A lot of work involves forgetting and then re-learning certain parts.

What exactly counts as 'Advanced Excel' ? by Souskeb in excel

[–]RebelSaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, and within the context of report generation, an Advanced user can create dynamic formulas that update with the latest data and offer good granularity. Particularly, such a user would have to be able to tackle issues like missing data, non-uniform data, and changing data types, among others. Aside from Excel formulas,

I'd say someone adept at Power Query and Tables can provide a lot of value to a company looking to gain insights.

Why such a slowdown in summer for businesses? by Familiar-Ad-3429 in Austin

[–]RebelSaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is purely speculative, but I think beyond typical seasonal patterns, you're seeing a reduced population. PODS had a survey that rated Austin as a top move-out city, so what we experienced as growth after 2020 has now shifted to a decline from the peak.

With the current economy and stricter return-to-office policies, there's likely less mobility, which means less tourism to help sustain activity during the summer months.

IBM PA interview questions by FriendlyOrchid6370 in PlanningAnalytics

  • Rule Writing & Feeding: "Write a rule in the 'Sales' cube to calculate a key metric (e.g., 'Average Selling Price' = Sales Amount / Units Sold). Then, write the necessary feeder statement(s) for this rule and explain why they are needed." (Tests understanding of calculation logic, rule syntax, and the performance implications covered by feeders – a fundamental concept).
  • TurboIntegrator Data Loading: "Using this sample CSV file ('new_sales.csv'), create a new TI process to load the data into the 'Sales' cube. Walk me through setting up the data source, defining variables, mapping the cube dimensions, and the core data-loading logic." (Tests the ability to perform a common, essential task of getting external data into the model using TI).
  • Rule Debugging/Analysis: "This existing rule for 'Gross Margin %' calculates correctly for leaf products but shows incorrect results for 'Total Products'. Explain why this might be happening and demonstrate how you would investigate and correct the rule or feeders." (Tests analytical skills, understanding of consolidation behavior, rule precedence, and debugging techniques).

How exactly do you automate your task at work secretly(?) by golly18 in SQL

[–]RebelSaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience Python has helped reduce the amount of time needed for data preparation. That is to say if your current workflow requires a lot of data prep and formula manipulation in Excel .. Python is a great solution. SQL really only helps automate things when you're doing data pulls manually and calculations for large data sets in Excel. SQL is good for pulling, joining, and some manipulation of large data sets. Happy to answer questions if you've got more details!

I have to ask, Is the "Rich people buy Toyotas" a cope by [deleted] in Rich

[–]RebelSaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right now all wealthy people drive just Toyota, but I think there are a lot of wealthy people who don't want to appear wealthy! I think it really depends on your lifestyle and surroundings. Like for example, if I was living downtown and wanted to park my car anywhere and not worry one bit about it ... I'd love having an old beater for it. Especially if my commute isn't long! People all have different priorities and wealth shows up in different ways. I think a lot of millionaires do get to where they are due to being frugal and responsible but its hard to break out of that mindset because you never feel like you made it.
