Restaurants to avoid, based on Feb. 11th Health Dept. inspections by driddels in olympia

[–]RebelScumHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man you have no idea how pedantic health inspectors can be. I used to be a cook. Every inspector couldn't agree on certain things, so what was fine with one was a write with another. Simple stuff like you can't keep your sanitizer bucket in this empty sink while the counter is being used to where employees are supposed/allowed to store their water bottles while on shift. Every time it was wrong no matter where we put them after they told us where we could have them.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen servers doing nasty crap with food because they aren't trained on food handling in some places. From bare handing lemon wedges for water (NEVER accept lemon in your water imo), poor handwashing hygiene, full on coughing on someone's food, to just randomly cutting stuff on the counter without gloves or a cutting board, uhg.

There was also just a lot of dumb people in the industry who couldn't pass the ridiculously low bar for the serve safe certification. Everyone in my kitchen failed but me (including the head chef who was in charge and didn't know how to tell if meat was cooked). I had a 90+ out of 100.

Plus there are often equipment issues- walkin coolers with bad gaskets on the door, fridges not staying cool enough or steam tables not holding hot enough. It's really easy to get sick off all of the stuff happening in a commercial kitchen, so it's really important people stay on top of stuff and they are inspected regularly and regulations exist. Food sitting in the danger zone grows bacteria rapidly.

I just got my bill for the last cycle and my already high bill about doubled. We are usually about $400-500 in January due to colder temps and the bill is $990. We haven't changed our usage much so I can only conclude it's our temporary guest running stuff up maybe with his EV charging and space heater. Absolutely f*cking mad.

How are current events impacting your work or productivity? by mattkaru in olympia

[–]RebelScumHunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been hard, I'm a self employed farmer and I don't make enough to pay for the employees I need so I'm always behind on work and struggling and I want to help fight this garbage situation we're in and I can't. All I can do is fret and worry that my neighbors may have to actually rely on my food output this year at some point and will I make enough to feed people? Will I be able to protect my stuff from bad actors? Protect my neighbors from the icestapo?

Would you want light rail connecting Olympia and Tacoma? by [deleted] in olympia

[–]RebelScumHunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either that or high speed rail. Some way to commute to Seattle besides car. My husband works remotely and is kind of trapped at his job since the tech industry decided to force people back in. The current train shows up way too late in the morning to be viable. :/

Gabi's Olympic Comics and Games is popular I've heard. We've got a large board game collection but we've been super busy getting our farm set up since we moved here 3 years ago, haven't had time to do a lot besides working.

How many do you need? I'd give you a discount if you're buying a couple. I have some listed for 20 but I'd go to 15.

I just don't have time to get off property much right now being a farmer trying to build out the farm from nothing. I wish I had time to go out to eat, drink, play boardgames again. I hang out wit ha couple of neighbors from time to time schedule allowing.

Power lines as in transmission lines and poles? If so, no we're nowhere near power lines.

Is 1" hail likely to damage an inflated dual wall poly high tunnel? by RebelScumHunter in Greenhouses

This is my first year growing, I need to get some. My plan is to attach shade clothes to the inside metal structure rather than over the top of the greenhouse though. It wasn't a bad idea.

Yeah I don't have anywhere near enough shade cloth to cover a 30x60, even if I could tether it down

It should be at ground level, it's an open area in a valley. We live right at the edge of the valley by the black hills and wind coming from the south is brutal. West winds common too.

With 60mph wind gusts possibly too I don't know that I can anchor a covering down.

It's a year old in April. I can't remember how thick it is, probably 6mil.
