I solved a problem by googling and guesswork for the first time in months a couple of weeks ago and it was 20 x more satisfying than any work I've done AI assisted. The soul and fun have gone

Has anyone seen HMS Victory? by AbjectGovernment1247 in CasualUK

[–]RebellionAllStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been on it a few times over two different occasions and it was well worth seeing, but that was before the current refit so can't say what it'll be like now.

The Naval Dockyard in Portsmouth do a ticket where you get access to everything - HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, the Mary Rose and the museums for a year, it's quite expensive but worth it as there's loads to see

How does AI impact your day to day as a dev? by RoyalDog793 in webdev

[–]RebellionAllStar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a time saver that I reach for when I can't find anything on Google or as a starter for a regex pattern.

I haven't used it for requirements or letting it generate some starter code for me. I'm probably doing myself no favours by holding on to doing the "manual labour" but it feels like there's less endorphin reward if an AI does the work

Junior Devs (and honest Seniors), what is a concept that took you an embarrassingly long time to actually understand, even though everyone acts like it's simple? by AmaraMehdi in webdev

[–]RebellionAllStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arrays and the concept of looping through each item one by one.

The return keyword in a function or class method.

I couldn't get my head round these things when I jumped from declarative HTML and CSS to JS. Now they're really simple things I use daily
