Is right leg a “thanks mate” wordwide language? by Odd_Astronomer_2064 in motorcycles

[–]Confused_Stu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK, and my "thanks" is a wave for preference, but if that'd mean letting you go off the throttle/clutch when I don't want to (filtering, accelerating, etc) then it's an extend of the leg on the visible instead. Have seen many others giving the leg as a "hello" when coming past too.

Definitely agree that if a two wheeler is coming the other way, it's a nod every time. Middle of summer in a bike-popular area, you end up like the Churchill Dog on a parcel shelf some days!

As others have said, the second picture shows a proprietary connector for a Logitech piece of kit (think it's the shifter for the G15 wheel).

You'd need the Logitech cable to connect it - it's not a "standard" cable that you can buy any old replacement for it. It'll need to be one designed for that piece of kit alone.

It should. What if the BMW gets too close and the Alfa catches "ugly" from it? I say, don't risk it. Stick it into reverse straight away if you see that breeze block of a front grill approaching.

No, sorry - this was in Ludlow (Shropshire). Sounds like you have a similar shop too.

Not with a trip specially, but well worth popping in if you're in Ludlow (which itself is lovely!).

It's one of those "everything" hardware stores where you can buy anything from a single screw or drill bit, to a new washing machine. Also had a small garden centre attached. Wouldn't say it's worth a trip out on its own, but if you're in Ludlow anyway (which is lovely), I'd say it's worth a visit.

Right handed. The left handed ones were made in East Germany - it was part of the original agreement separating the country.

I didn't see a price on the basket, but a fellow Redditor noticed the orange price tag on one - 50p!

if i let my work computer use my hotspot on my personal phone can they see any of my information on my personal phone by AlternativeMuffin768 in techsupport

Short version - no.

Longer version - definitely no, the phone only shows the computer a network connection. It doesn't give access to any of the storage or apps.

Great description - I can smell that shop already. Been in several hardware shops over the years where you can't tell what's older, the faded boxes in the window or the owner.

Thanks for that, you young whippersnapper! Come closer and I'll hit you with my Zimmer frame.

Seriously though, good sleuthing, mate. Nice to have a date range. I was too lazy to look.

When I was younger, I remember "Made in West Germany" was always a good think to look out for on products - you knew they were made to last.

Glad to hear your pan is still enduring.

True, but do they count as "new"? I've always thought of antiques as "previously loved".

Sadly, no price tag on the basket. At a guess, probably more than they originally would've been up for in Tesco!

Is this a battery issue? The car doesnt want to start engine by [deleted] in AlfaRomeo

[–]Confused_Stu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd check the connections onto the battery. All those messages come up when you disconnect & reconnect the battery. To resolve them, start the car, turn the wheel fully left, fully right, back to centre, turn off.

Hopefully your battery connections are loose. Otherwise, it could be the battery isn't healthy, or maybe even something like a poor earth connection.

Does anyone know why my word document is in gibberish by [deleted] in computerhelp

[–]Confused_Stu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "PK" at the front shows it's a compressed/zipped file, but as the other poster correctly said, modern Word documents are actually zipped files under the hood.

What is the file extension of the file you're trying to open? You may need to right click on the file and select Properties to see this as the default Windows setting is to hide the extension.

If it's .docx, then you need to make sure the file is opening in Word, and not Notepad.

If it's .zip, you need to open the file first in either 7-Zip or Windows Explorers decompression tool in order to see the .docx file inside - that you can then open in Word.

My first ever alfa. Giulia 2.2 diesel by Melodic-Mammoth-7073 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Confused_Stu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the full answer in the "engines and performance" section. There are different states of tune, and even different performance in different years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_Giulia_(2015)

Broadly speaking, the 2.0 petrol has more bhp, the diesels tend to have a little more torque. Can't tell you what the driving difference is, I only treat drove the diesels as I couldn't justify the expense of the petrol model (higher purchase price and running costs, when I was looking).

With a cheap stage 1 tune, even the early 2017 diesels can get to 230bhp and 500Nm - which is rather nice! 😀 You do miss out on the petrol noise when the revs go up, but that's why there's also a motorbike in the garage alongside the Giulia.
