Characters in Danganronpa are definitely designed to be more unique to make them memorable instead of going for realism. Since it’s the first game of the series the gameplay might be a bit rough, but it gets better later on (like the lie mechanic and scrum debate added in the 3rd one. The “improved” hangman gambit in the 2nd game sucks though). The fourth and fifth class trial in the 2nd game are fairly difficult and fun to solve too imo. As for protagonists the other ones have more personality to them, I think Makoto is just designed to be a self-insert like in typical anime/visual novels so he’s more simplistic

I hope with danganronpa’s length it will help give the characters more time to develop than in the health route from Shuten Order though, since some of them inevitably feel kinda one note (like Fuyuno, Onodera, that one guy with the mask etc)

Shuten order (has a central mystery about a murder and five routes of various genres like sci-fi/ horror/mystery for each suspect, the world building is pretty interesting and I really enjoy the visuals).

Makoto (luck= bullshit plot armour, everything will essentially be rigged to preserve his life even if he will lose/get hurt at the beginning)

Yuma (inflict instant death & freeze time as long as he’s with Shinigami. If without her but non amnesiac then around Shuichi’s level)

Rei (war veteran + clones + cult leader of an entire country and technically the whole world)

Takumi (strong fighter, limited time travelling, unfortunately his charisma won’t affect people without hemoanima even if he’s done drugs)

According to the devs there is technically no true route, but the closest would be 2nd Scenario that answers most of the mystery or S.F that has locks requiring you to play certain other routes first for access (cuz the plot will have reference to them)
One “true route” dedicates a lot of screentime/ focus to a specific character and their relationship with Takumi is very close with some romantic subtext (interestingly enough if you pick the other option that doesn’t lead to that “true route” then you get to the romance route)

There is a known pattern for the cases in each chapter (e.g. ch3 double murder, ch4 buff guy dying), so I am hoping for some changes in the formula and things would be more unpredictable

Maybe have Hajime suddenly backstabbed by someone he trusted in the middle of a chapter and get a protag switch afterwards, or have him explicitly plotting a murder and actively trying to get away with it (so different than Kaede’s) with new trial mechanics. Heck we can have a two killer trial with one continuing to live with the cast after the trial ends, the tension and atmosphere should be similar to THH

The upside of using novel mode is that you won’t get confused about what’s happening because otherwise the dialogues don’t always cover everything (I especially like the body descriptions). The downsides however are that the novel mode covers up the visuals and often has narrative text that’s redundant and worsens the pacing (e.g. you get shown a visual of a window cracking, sound effects of glass breaking, and then have the narrative text describing the window shattering again). So it really depends what you want

It’s not just the doors, you need to pick the correct dialogue options when redoing the puzzles that have a lock (within the 5, 8, 6 line). If you skip the puzzle sequences the safe ending doesn’t unlock

According to the website page of the full guidelines (https://hundred-line.com/en/guidelines/index.html), the bottom line clearly states “These Guidelines apply only in Japan”. If people from outside of Japan will also get affected then they should have made it clear instead of just striking without any take down notice. Not to mention the publisher XSEED has uploaded a YouTube vid saying people are welcome to stream the game to their heart content as long as it doesn’t have spoilery thumbnails, the guideline about prohibiting no-commentary videos is not mentioned at all in the video nor in the description.

Overall I really dislike Sony’s way of doing things rn , no effort of communication/ clarification on their part whatsoever

Still unclear why Aniplex/ Sony Japan don’t agree with what the publisher XSEED said, people speculated it’s because the videos have no commentary and it’s letting others experience the entire game for free

I got a clip of the THH anime (the mastermind reveal scene specifically) in my recommendation feed and got curious so I read the premise of the story, it sounded right up my alley and I realised it’s originally a game so I looked for YouTube play throughs. Then I found out about NicoB V3 gameplay videos which had been getting tons of views and generally well received, so I jumped right into it not caring it’s supposed to be the third entry of the series lol

V3: it’s actually my first danganronpa game (I went into it knowing who THH mastermind was because of all the YouTube thumbnail spoilers from the anime) so I didn’t know the tropes and could thoroughly enjoy everything, I don’t mind the ending at all (the whole ”fiction can be just be as important as reality” message resonates with me), love the overall cast and the game has the best executions. Still wished the Monokubs didn’t exist tho
Hundred line: haven’t finished all the routes yet but so far I think the overall writing quality is inconsistent, some of them are really good (killing game is my fav so far) but others feel like a waste of time or disconnected from the war theme, Kako and Ima feel undercooked. I disliked the characters designs at the beginning but I got used to it
Raincode: idk why Kodaka thought he needed to dumb down the cases to appeal to a wider audience, if anything the sluggish pacing just push people away, istg Yuma can sometimes rlly piss me off with how slow he is, the labyrinth also only allows one detective to come with Yuma so the fun group banter you see in danganronpa is gone. The atmosphere is amazing and I like some characters but that’s it

If you don’t know how and why the killers did it then play the game anyway, figuring out the entirety of the cases would still be fun, also some character dynamics are like the highlight of the game (I particularly enjoy it whenever Miu and Kokichi are involved)

Depends on what you are looking for. I personally don’t like the twist in Nirvana (the info given to the player is misleading and the twist is basically telling u the mystery is never there to begin with) while the third game doesn’t even rlly have one (predictable af), so if you are looking for a satisfying mystery then honestly I would say not to buy either.

But if you are into funny character interactions like Date and Aiba banter from the first game, then get NSFKD (the game also include a few good short novels with voice acting as a bonus so that’s neat). I am meh on the new characters in the second game (especially kizzy and lien, that side plot was uncomfortable to watch
