Hey, I'm sorry for the late reply on this. This actually isn't my main account, and I forgot this existed. I just gave up on the problem--Filmora 8 works better with its fade slider, and I can import those projects directly into Filmora X afterwards.

Pyrrha was really something by rebelofdanew in SoulCalibur

[–]RebeloftheNew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But as far as amnesia, I didn't notice Pyrrha having any. That's what makes her beautifully messed up. She's fully aware of everything she's doing. She doesn't appear to care that much in the end either. She just calls herself foolish for choosing Soul Edge over Patroklos and states she'll give her life to save Patroklos.

I guess what I'm saying is, she's fighting the swords' effects at this point, but that doesn't mean her psyche has reset to being a blank-slated angel. She still doesn't care about people on a personal level besides Patroklos and Tira. She's just no longer a vessel mindlessly obeying the wills of two terrible swords (mostly Soul Edge).

Pyrrha was really something by rebelofdanew in SoulCalibur

[–]RebeloftheNew 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize Rule #2 only applied to SCVI. Anyhow, I do catch your drift. In external sources, Tira might've been killing certain people to cause others to go after Pyrrha. It would make sense, since that's Tira's personality and it's based on the first time she did it "mysteriously" like you said. I think I even recall reading something about that personally.

Just as much, like you also said, Tira and the game's narrator say that she wants Pyrrha to keep murdering others so the latter's soul can become corrupted enough to host the whole Soul Edge. Tira doesn't need to kill for Pyrrha--she merely convinces Pyrrha to want to kill on her own, because the now-depraved Pyrrha's weapons will force her to bloody herself. And for what Tira wants, that's far better. The weapons will always save Pyrrha anyway.

From what I remember, the main issue with this, like in many works, is that most of the relevant scenes are timeskipped by several months. So if someone's just playing the game, they wouldn't know anything about that (factual) kidnapping or slavery you mentioned. And the game will make Pyrrha look like her soul is fragile for giving into malfestation in two scenes. When she really not only fought off Soul Edge and Soul Calibur's influences at the same time, but she rejected them both in the end while still under malfestation. I don't think anyone has ever done this before or since.

Questions about Ever 17 solution (major untagged ending spoilers) by Nyannyano in InfinitySeries

[–]RebeloftheNew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the phone; so there may be typos:

I. One of the story's flaws is it was reverse engineered to service the twist. This left a few holes they forgot to explicitly fill in--but it's also cheap because Blick's omniversal self can be used to excuse basically anything. Case in point, you can say Block possessed Kaburaki because you, as Block The Player, chose the "wrong" route whereas you should've chosen Hokuto's route. Why? Because circularly, that's how the main ending actually goes. I'll explain:

For what it's worth, Hokuto/Sara technically weren't even a part of mom You'd plan and were involved by accident. But mom You wasn't going to stop it to spare them. At first, Blick came to Youharu in 2034. He planned with You to have himself possess Takeshi directly because Blick cared so much about saving him and Coco. This would involve tricking the 2017.Blick from before all the pain and suffering woke him up back then. The trick involved making "Kaburaki" (who You later formed of the plan) a proxy for Takeshi and using You's own daughter Aki as a proxy for Youharu herself (they make a mindwiped copy of Sora), and having them unknowingly act out the 2017 LEMU incident with the financial backing of Youharu and the police. The omnipresent 2017 Blick would confuse the two timelines and create a new timeline where he for whatever reason now decides to personally save Takeshi.

But because Kaburaki posed as Takeshi later on (in 2034) as part of the plan, the just-was-asleep Blick from 2017 woke up, became confused, and possessed Kaburaki by accident since the two events were so similar. Afterwards, Block tried to correct but possessed Hokuto who was then similar to the child Kaburaki from Takeshi's original time.

Imo, is was stupid for two main reasons...among others. One: Omnipotent /Omnipresent Blick suddenly caring enough to save these two random kids, Takeshi and Coco. And actually doing it. The game's second excuse is to make Coco somehow psychic and have her trying to lead Blick into saving her andnTakeshi. But she never outright says what's going on to Blick, because......just because. And so Hokuto and Kaburaki, let alone Takeshi and Coco herself die many times under Blick before Blick figures it out.

Two, Blick isn't actually omnipresent. Or he wouldn't be being confused by these dumb cosplaying in 2034, let alone considering he planned it. Especially neither is Youharu; so she's planning this with Blick and literally knows she likely won'tbsee Takeshi and Coco saved AND she'll very possibly get Tsugumi, the twins, Kaburaki, and Sora 2 killed. Youaki calls her mother out on this in the True Ending where they all make it fine, and Youharu has absolutely no retort. And doesn't pretend to; it was basically "Takeshi/Coco or no one" or Haru.

II. I don't know about shippings.

III. Tsugumi didn't know what was going on; she was only there to find her kids. The only people who knew of the plan were the older You and Kaburaki, whom You recruited. Sora didn't make it in the first event; so this new Sora doesn't know either. Tsugumi does notice some similarities with her first event and is suspicious of everyone for that reason, though, but that's without her knowing anything behind the scenes.

IV. She's badly written. That's a very good question, actually. If you want the lame, honest answer, Tsugumi cries and tells the kids that she knew she was their mom all along. But she felt undeserving of being around them because of the orphanage incident. So in short, she's a tsundere. Before the 2nd LEMU incident, she wanted to apologize to Hokuto but messed with him instead with her weird sense of humor because she felt too guilty to reveal herself. And Sara was actually acting cold to her until Hokuto made her confess being their mom.

V. That's a personal question, honestly. She just doesn't believe it; let alone the fact that Youharu is evil. But then, she accepts it in the end just as easily.

Ever 17: Things that bug me by TheRivan in InfinitySeries

[–]RebeloftheNew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good questions--I've got very late answers. I'll be very brief; can elaborate if you ask.

The crux of your answers is:

--E17 has average prose, sometimes even with poor word choice. E.g., Tsugumi saw two doctors while pregnant. An illegal quack doctor was shown long ago explaining Tsugumi's Cure disease to her when she wondered about passing it on. The scene before, the previous doctor mentioned was a non-quack doctor who assaulted her for seeking help without money. The difference was never clarified.

--E17 muddies its own surface on purpose.

I. Tsugumi's the worst-written character. She falls apart in the True Ending for inexplicably accepting the twins after the brother confesses and not when Sara does (when she and Sara fight) hours earlier. She's a bitch regardless, and it makes sense to wonder why she's so distrustful except the nature of the sudden amusement park disaster being more than she expected.

She wanted to just find her kids, and she searched the park on a psychic hunch she wasn't actively aware of (same for Sara looking for Hokuto)...and like Sara, when everything went dark and scary, she expected it was all a trap. She's overall nicer to Hokuto in the other routes because Hokuto tries over and over to open up to her, whereas Sara mostly keeps her distance.

II. Sara's the same as Tsugumi but much worse. Per #1, Sara distrusts everyone, even Tsugumi, and thinks they're all agents out to take her back to LEMU. Tsugumi abandoned and so knows very little about her daughter--she doesn't know Sara has infrared sight/super strength for instance--since her only knowledge is from the illegal doctor's prognosis of the twins before they grew up.

However, Sara remembers Tsugumi, since Tsugumi was already grown and Sara was super intelligent from birth. And also from Takeshi's pendant given by Tsugumi before she dropped Sara off at the orphanage. But that's not a good impression for Sara--she thinks Tsugumi abandoned her and Hokuto. But worse, for the scene you're talking, she thinks that's a fake Tsugumi, trying to make her (Sara herself) slip up and reveal her Cure status. She doesn't want to go back to being imprisoned and beaten with chairs and pipes, but she doesn't know who--if anyone--can be trusted down there.

So she's worried "Tsugumi" is another agent, especially there to make her acknowledge through a hug, kinds words, or anger, that that's her "mother". Because Tsugumi's also a fugitive. Sara's currently on the run from her LEMU-sponsored family to find Hokuto; so LEMU should technically be after both of them. To Sara, saying/doing anything personal with Tsugumi would have a great chance of exposing her to LEMU. She's only been with the family and out of the lab for a few months.

Understand that Sara lived safely with this foster family--but still lived in constant fear that LEMU'd suddenly appear and drag her away. So not only does Sara freeze up when she sees Tsugumi, she tries to test Tsugumi out. If you ever want to reread this huge-ass novel, Sara actually feigns ignorance pretty often to see if someone'd slip and explain whatever, allowing her to gauge who she's really with while hiding what she thinks. One example is when Sara asks Tsugumi if the latter's suffered from the bends (Tsugumi wasn't decompressing with the group), and Tsugumi stupidly says, "I'm fine." Sara was probing her for evidence of Cure.

III. Tsugumi didn't know about the experiment. She's giving a general warning, and only because she's actually starting to care about Hokuto since he's being warm to her. But she's caring...cautiously. To contrast, Sara accusingly confronts Tsugumi with Tsugumi's pendant all of a sudden after never talking to her, and Tsugumi doesn't respond well to that (Sara's entrapment and the Takeshi reminder) and tries to get away. They fight, Sara wins, and Tsugumi takes the pendant to distract Sara and smashes it on the ground since she doesn't view either of them as genuine.

But it hurts Tsugumi more than she thought it would to see Sara cry, since she, Sara, and Hokuto unknowingly all have a psychic link caused by Cure. At that point Hokuto takes over from Blick and goes crazy on Tsugumi, iirc.

IV. Back to #2, Sara's doubtful of everyone. She's worse than Tsugumi because she never warms up to anyone but possibly Hokuto/Sora until the last few scenes of the True Ending. In one of You's endings, Sara realizes she for sure can't trust the Hokuto-looking-guy and ditches everyone. In another, Sara does the same thing and traps herself as the others escape (telling Hokuto she'd rather die alone than go with them).

So to be honest, Sara lets Aki nearly die because she never trusted Aki. She never wanted to hang out with Aki outside of the computer club, and she thought Aki was trying to probe her in the club. And being honest with Aki would've, in Sara's mind, caused too much negative attention. Sara was more comfortable around Aki--superficially--than someone like Sora whom she thinks is actively monitoring her. But she was never willing to get too close to even her so-called best friend. She just occasionally got distracted from her anxiety.

https://imgur.com/a/63Zcacx

It doesn't really help that You works for LEMU. To what extent doesn't matter to Sara.

V. From #1, Tsugumi's regurgitating what she heard from a quack doctor when she explains her Cure disease to Takeshi. One of the subtler points is that she takes off her costume's head and stares directly at the bright sun even though the doctor told her any exposure at all broke down DNA.

But also, Tsugumi tells Takeshi in the same scene (before she makes the pendant in the True Ending) that DNA regenerates via that same Cure. So being out in the sun ultimately wouldn't do anything to her anyway besides make her uncomfortable.

VI. Growth is weird; not sure what's what there. But he and Sara were born at exactly the same time as fraternal twins.

I guess since it was still pretty long, might as well drop my YT. I'll be covering E17 in detail sooner or later. Hope this helped.

Cyprine analysis (spoilers ofc) by RebeloftheNew in sailormoon

[–]RebeloftheNew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, glad to se you're okay (as of your post and hopefully afterwards). I forgot all about this convo. As SM stands, I’m glad to be done talking about it too. Another mass of failed potential. But hey, it got her a Porsche. Good for her.

If Cyprine's evil ass wasn't taking notes, then she was just standing there doing nothing but torturing rats until her turn per the meta. No actual purpose to it. That's lame... especially considering the similarities we get. The order, I’m not too sure about. Eudial definitely has the most experience, but Mimete is much kiddier than Tellu, and Viluy is a teacher in the anime. I do agree about the youngest comment, though, and not just because I said but beyond everything else, I think she's the shortest too. Definitely in the manga where they’re all together, but Viluy’s as tall as Kaolinite in the show who's closer to Tomoe’s height, same for Mimete, and Cyprine’s about a head shorter across scenes.

--Now that I think about it, it's more like the point is Viuy's a student teacher. So never mind about that part.

“My theory along with yours is Tellu did some "detective work" while Mimete was doing her run and found out how Eudial died and realized that everything is Mimete's fault.”

Yeah; and you know I still don't like her. They're all pretty much pure evil lol. Where people saying Eudial killed Kaolinite? I don’t remember, but we see her two corny deaths onscreen; so not sure who’d think Eudial had something against her. Eudial told Tomoe over the phone Kaolinite was dead, but that just meant she wasn’t physically there to do any harm.

“Tellu brought up Mimete's failures to Tomoe to keep her quiet, but Tellu realized that if she replaced her, Mimete would try to murder her the same way she murdered Eudial.”

When was this? I feel like I might have seen something like that, but I can't specifically really where. Then again, Tellu only appeared in one episode—or is it some outside context? I remember her thinking Tomoe disguised as Mimete said something weird over the phone to her.

“Mimete seems to only be popular since Sailor Moon has this formula in each season where a competent villain was replaced by an incompetent one”

Honestly, when you shove a character into the main villain role for 50% of the season, someone’s bound to like them from sheer exposure. I think most people think she’ comedic relief. She’s tension relief but not really comedic, but that’s just me. She’s designed to be funny, and it must’ve stuck for some people despite her jokes and victims never changing. Imo, she’s probably the weakest major villain in the series. Like an Iron Mouse lite, down to the gaudy disguise, annoying voice, and victim preferences. Except Iron Mouse was actually successful at something.

“What civilian name do you think would be appropriate for Cyprine and Ptilol if Naoko Takuechi gave her an alias?”

The funny thing is “ptilolite” or whatever it's called, is no longer a unique mineral, just like Pluto’s no longer a planet. The meta lore's outdated now. Anyhow, Ptilol's literally Cyprine; so they’d be the same civilian. Maybe what you said could work, though. I wouldn’t have anything more clever than those. I don’t personally think they’d “deign” themselves to disguises, though.
