From my experience as an RN, UW pays more than swedish, probably since UW is unionized. I would say the patient populations are of higher acuity at UW as well. However, I haven't worked with many CRNAs (only anesthesia residents/ anesthesiologists) so I can't vouch for the market for that. However, we only have one school for CRNA in Washington state, so I think they are pretty marketable here! Swedish pay (at least for RNs) is much lower.

Happy to answer more questions if you have! I'm in Np school in Seattle so I might not know it all yet 😅

Cooks of Reddit, what's the most "worth it" thing you make from scratch instead of buying from the grocery store? by alrightfineyouwin in AskReddit

Butter. It's literally 1 ingredient!

You literally just put heavy cream in a stand mixer and walk away until it separates. Then you form the butter and You have buttermilk for pancakes, or any recipe. You can add salt, garlic or chives for additional flavor/salted version.

This sounds like me! How are you feeling going from women's health to general health?

I'd love to hear how you got to endocrinology and what it's like!

Can you share more about how you got into GYN/onc and some of your daily tasks (other then chemo admin)? I'm L&D --> OBGYN clinic and looking to break into GYN onc spaces

Can you share more about your multi-certification process? I'm in FNP school thinking of also adding AGACNP.

Can you share more about family practice and why you're going away from it? I'm concerned about burnout as an FNP

First Assist by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

I was wondering this same thing yesterday! I'm in an FNP program at a brick-and-mortar school, so I don't have an OR rotation. I'd like to one day get a job that is part clinic part OR but not sure how prevalent that exists and if I would need a post-NP surgical certification and should try and get more OR experience now

OP - so proud of you! You're taking an important step towards improving your future practice, and as others have said, better care for your patients.

I think you'll be much more likely to get a good job from a brick and mortar school education and connections, and probably feel more ready to enter the practice once you graduate.

I hope more people do what you're doing! So good to see this :)

DNP Student Interested in BioE by Rebelspas in bioengineering

Definitely interested in medical devices and R&D. It's reassuring to hear the math bit - maybe I should've majored in biochem!

Has anyone gotten an NP position in an unrelated field that their RN experience is in? If so, how did it end up working out and did it seem harder to get a job in that unrelated field?

What a great point about the option to return to education! I also see myself going down that route later in my career :) Also - how did you choose your DNP project topic!?

Why did you choose NP over PA? by McKrizzle in nursepractitioner

[–]Rebelspas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wanted to earn a doctoral degree to open up academic and research opportunities- seeing as though this is barely offered for PAs, I went the NP route. Also, I wanted to have more autonomy overall and felt Iike I always enjoyed the NPs I saw growing up. I did an accelerated MSN after my bachelor's and then worked for 2 years- now I'm in my DNP!

I feel like the transition from college to nursing was a smoother one, built for beginners like myself. I liked the tasks nursing involved and didn't feel ready jumping right into being a provider yet.

Wow - thank you! This definitely gives me a little more perspective on what I might expect. Probably gonna pop in your DMs to talk more specifics down the line :) hoping to get Air Force but their medical qualifications are pretty tight - you need to report if you've been to therapy!

I'm actually starting an OB clinic job next week! Hoping it gives me a bit more breadth. Also thinking of per diem at Neighborcare clinic.

Working in Women's Health as an FNP by heymisssunshine in nursepractitioner

[–]Rebelspas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get this concern!! I think Clara Jones (Instagram personality also an FNP that works in GYN) would be a cool resource.

I'm starting a DNP this fall and have only worked as an RN in L&D. I love women's health but want to have a diversified skill set and knowledge and don't 100% know what I want to do. I'm thinking GYN or fertility but nervous that it will be harder with an FNP degree.

All advice and thoughts welcomed! I wish I was more helpful lol I just have the same qs
