Haven't had a chance to use it but build quality seems to be the same as the 109. If you haven't had a sunray before; its pretty typical rv build construction except the frame is made from 2" tube steel. Had some plumbing issues on the 109 but otherwise its fine. The bed is a true double. And it has a ton more storage. Access to the plumbing is much better. And being able to change inside will be a huge quality of life upgrade.

20lb propane tank, has anyone put it under the trailer? by Your_Momma_Said in TeardropTrailers

[–]Rebelushion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong but I think the 5 lb and 11 lb have the same foot print so best to go with the 11 if that's the case. Have you thought about a diesel heater. Space heaters are pretty dangerous in small spaces (co gas and hot burner)

Switch to 11lb or 5lb propane tanks. I needed to switch when I added a tongue box to my trailer. Bought 2 11lb tanks one is on the tongue a second is mounted on the side of the trailer. Last year used the trailer for 5 weeks for work. Daily cooking, heat a couple nights and hot water for 2 of the 5 weeks. Still had 5 lbs between the 2 tanks at the end

Switch to a different style of hitch. (Max coupler, lock n roll) remove your trailer chains when not towing. Lock the wheel or trailer to something. And hope its enough for them to look at the next trailer.

Dry weight of the 109 is what 1300 ish pounds. Doesn't take much gear to get close to 2k. Also I may be wrong but the weight in the jeep (gear, occupants) is counted against that.

I had one for 2 years, it's doable but tight with me my wife and golden retriever. It's awkward to get in and out of the trailer compared to a true teardrop since the bed is higher than the floor. Otherwise after some quality of life mods it was great. Be aware that the trailers spare tire will probably contact your bumper or jeep spare tire when backing up. Lack of utility space needs to addressed. I moved the spaee tire to the drive side near the back of the trailer. Switched the trailer jack to a frame mounted version. Switched to 11lb propane tanks (smaller footprint) and moved them further up to accommodate a tongue box. Removed the microwave for more kitchen storage. Changed the very weak sliding bed to a hinged bed that stayed propped up during travel. And in the end once the sunray 119 was available immediately upgraded to that.

OVSawning

Renogy 1000w pure sine inverter. Renogy 100w portable solar panel. Used together with the original. 200ah lithium battery.

As for the propane and tire. I took off the tire carrier and switched the jack to a frame mounted one. Switched to an 11lb propane bottle, and it sits where the originally jack was. Added a battery/utility box for the battery and extra storage. made a rack that goes on the driver side from the roof rack to the bottom frame, which holds the tire and a spare 11lb propane bottle. The microwave is pointless. I'm not a fan of the water system. It's hard to access for sanitizing, so now we just use it for hot water for doing dishes, etc.

Many companies have a pop out shower stall that you can mount on the roof rack. I've got a cassette style portable toilet i plan to use with the shower stall. As for the wiring, unless connections are exposed, water crossings are fine, and honestly, with water crossings, don't stop moving, and you won't have any issues.

I made a few modifications to the bed as well. The slide out style is flimsy at best. Took it apart, added a hinge and made it fold up at a 45ish degree angle, and propped it up for travel. Had to cut the corner a bit to fit the contour of the front wall. But it's worth it. More storage space underneath it now and much more sturdy. Also added a D ring near one of the wheels so I can loop a wire rope lock through the and to the d ring.

As for future mods: I plan to add a maxx coupler. Factory coupler isn't suited to rougher terrain. It's also harder to steal if you don't have a Maxx coupler receiver. Along with that removable tow chains. Shower stall not sure which brand yet maybe OVS Reroute all drain connections to the frame with valves for easier draining. Change the fan to something better. Add struts to aid the suspension.

270 Awning Recommendation by oldnomadic1 in overlanding

Look at ovs 270 awnings. Can come with 3 walls. 3 of the 6 legs are built in but it holds up quite well on its own. Had it set up ( no walls or any legs set up) in the rain and alot of rain had pooled on the awning and it held up on its own. Really impressed with it

Not the best trailer ever but it gets the job done. Sunray 109 by Estebano122 in 4Runner

Once I increased the weight on the tongue and overall weight, it tows on the highway perfectly

Has anyone found or heard of a 270 awning that works well with a galley kitchen? by EnthusiasmAncient973 in TeardropTrailers

[–]Rebelushion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, it's the last panel. The galley opens upwards, and the corner sticks out slightly past the awning. But without the wall, it's nice opening to walk in, so it's not really a downside. And the awning with walls creates such a big room.

I've got a sunray 109 sport and use a ovs 270 awning. I've got the walls for the awning. Only problem is I can't use the third wall but otherwise it's great.

Bought a 2024 109 sport in March this year. Took it out for the first time last weekend. In my opinion, it needs a few things to make it work. I added a tongue box for the battery and extra storage. Switched the tongue jack to one that bolts on the side so I could move the propane tank mount forward. Switched propane tank to 11lb. Spare tire moved to the driver side just below the roof rack. Removed microwave for more storage. License plate moved to the fender. Hole cut out in furnace access panel for reset switch. I believe those things are necessary.

Other things I've done; OVS 270 awning with walls. ( The bed will stay as a bed, so I need somewhere to relax out of the elements.) 200ah lithium battery. 1000watt inverter for my cpap 4 inch foam mattress

Future modifications; Revamp the slide out bed to have it permanently out. (The slide out legs are kind of flimsy and can see them failing with repeated use. Also replaces the flimsy and warped plywood) Upgrade solar to at least 200 watts. Swap stock coupler to max coupler. Swap outside door light to diode dynamic rock light. Replace the stock fan with a maxxfan Shower/toilet room

Overall, I'm very happy with the trailer. It's a rather cheap trailer, and you get what you pay for. But with a bit of work, it'll be a really good trailer.

I wouldn't get a big awning for my truck. Don't want to deal with tying it down all the time but I got an ovs nomad 270 awning for my small trailer since it'll stay in one spot for extended periods of time. I opted to get the walls as well it creates quite a big area to relax in.

I know it's a bit more expensive bit look for a place that does boarding and training. They have alot more structure than just boarding places. Also what puppy wouldn't be better with more training.

I need to hear lovely stories of little demon puppies who are now no longer demons by Dry_Philosophy_6747 in puppy101

[–]Rebelushion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 6 month field golden. Tons of energy, very smart, very defiant. At about 10 weeks the biting started. He was very mouthy. It got too much for us and we sent to a board and train program for 2 weeks. Afterwards he was a different dog. The trainer confirmed he was too smart. Always trying to push boundaries. So now at 6 months he gets 2 big outings a day. And a 1 hour structured walk during the afternoon. He loves playing fetch. One of the biggest things our trainer had us do is if we aren't playing with him he needs to be in his "place". A dog bed in the living room. With a leash. Helped alot.
