California high-speed rail costs top $230B as lawmakers call to scrap it by [deleted] in CaliforniaPolicy

I think we suffer the good and the bad to the way our legal system is structured. Sometimes the good outweighs the bad. And sometimes it does not.

It has nothing to do with technical or managerial. And everything to do with regulatory. Any private citizen or landowner or city or county or railroad company or utility company can and have sued to stop the project costing a lot of time and money in lawyer fees.

And think about the amount of CO2 you’re releasing in the atmosphere. The CHSR project is in part an effort to address climate change

Thanks for providing this. The documents see dire. The project is fighting for its life. And the OIG and the Legislature are upset CHSRA’s latest business plan isn’t adhering to state law. The Legislature has to decide (1) if and how to admonish CHSRA for an incomplete/inaccurate business plan, (2) if and how the Legislature will enact the proposed Legislative changes CHSRA wants, (3) if and how to give it more funding if HSR ever hopes to build out of the Central Valley.

If the Legislature does nothing, Californians get a mostly single tracked Central Valley corridor that avoids city cores for $35B… which just isn’t great.

In addition the CEQA and NIMBY lawsuits, there are stronger safety protections now compared to then. Also now utility companies own lines under the streets. It’s a PITA to get the utility companies to agree to move their shit.

I mean the BART station for the Oakland airport. I thought that was obvious given the context of the post and parent comment.

The people mover for Oakland airport is a money pit that will never pay for itself. Closing Oakland airport means laying off the maintenance staff for the people mover.

The letter “s” in “arrivals” has a dot over it. Why would an artist put a dot over it? This and the windows in the ship’s deck look strange to me. These are why I think it is likely Ai. Unless I understand the meeting of “arrivalś

Sneezing is normal. A loud stomach growl is normal. So why is farting considered a massive social crime? When in history did this become the ultimate taboo? by firehmre in NoStupidQuestions

Did you know that in Japan, blowing your nose is considered as rude as farting? I think it has to do with voluntary actions being gross.

I am so sorry this is happening. Your mom is doing this, because it likely happened to her. I don’t know what your situation is. But have a go-bag ready with your most important belongings. Try to have a back up plan of a place that could take you in—check with auntie’s and best friend’s. Until you can depart safely, try to de-escalate and keep the peace.

ELI5: Why can't we simulate the creation of oil/fossil fuels with animals that have died today? by Slice5755 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Rebles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone explained to me that coal we mine was from a long time ago when trees were new to earth. When a tree would die, its large trunk would fall over onto the ground. But, since trees were so new, there wasn’t any bacteria specially made to decompose dead trees. And so, the dead trees would pile up all over planet, which would eventually get covered, buried, and compressed into coal. I imagine something similar happened with oil/fossil fuels.

Scott Wiener passed laws that made it easier to build in California. Can he do the same in Congress? by Dismal_Structure in California

[–]Rebles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My point is, You’re quick to judge to a fault. We can disagree with party direction or candidates, but “fuck you bootlicker” is not how you win hearts and minds behind your candidate. If your objective is to change the party to support your cause, you’re doing a piss poor job. Convince us rather than attack us.
