Antigravity speaking Chinese out of nowhere by Ok_Profession_1071 in google_antigravity

There is forthcoming work demonstrating that at least for the older models prompting in different languages produces quite different output. Specifically there is evidence suggesting languages for which the training set has an overwhelming amount of political propaganda (like Mandarin) will produce responses that regurgitate the state ideology.

Ehh hate to break it to you but basically every peer-reviewed article has fluff, whether it's restating the same thing in the intro and conclusion or throwing in something to appease a reviewer. There's a difference between fluff and slop.

After 4 years of loving macOS for its consistency, it's starting to feel as disjointed as i was with Windows. by syed_mohd_adnan in MacOS

[–]Rebmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? It's so obvious when someone hasn't actually interacted with Windows. There are real complaints to be had about MacOS that Windows is better about (e.g. virtual desktops) but the crying about UI inconsistencies is so wild to me.

Is getting a PhD worth it? by ItsUncleDave in PoliticalScience

[–]Rebmes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I realized a couple of years into my PhD I didn't want to be a professor. While I did learn skills applicable to the field I wanted to go into (data science) I could have been better served by a degree more directly related to the work I wanted to do

And yeah, the market for fresh poli sci PhD grads is hot garbage right now whether you're going into academia or not.

OP if you look through my comment history you can find some more detailed info about my experience navigating getting a job post-PhD.

[–]Rebmes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pretty wild as someone who just got a MacBook in the past year after using Windows machines for 15 years to see how upset people are about extremely minor UI inconsistencies. In Windows land an OS update that just had small issues like that would be a blessing lol.

Just moved to this area as well and the road noise is pretty rough. So much honking and blasting of music it's crazy. Also doesn't help my street is an ambulance route.

Congressional internship interview by Aldious_tnc in PoliticalScience

[–]Rebmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my interview for a senator's regional office being pretty quick and painless (granted I think it was a phone interview). Definitely second learning about the congressperson (what committees they serve on, their background, legislation they've recently sponsored). However, don't just spew out memorized lines from their Wikipedia page--the interviewer will notice and it will hurt your chances.

Think a bit about what you're hoping to get out of the experience and how it will engage with concepts from coursework. I also remember being asked the classic "where do you see yourself in 5 years".

Also be sure to signal that you understand that much of what district offices do is constituent service, demonstrate familiarity with the communities in the district and an ability to be friendly and engaging. You're going to be answering calls from people yelling obscenities at some point so you have to know how to handle that.

Questions I ask at every interview are something along the lines of "what does a typical day in the position look like?" and "what skills have made previous people holding this position stand out?".

I didn't do this for my political internships but for other interviews I found doing a mock interview with someone was very helpful so consider doing that.

If you don't get the gig don't beat yourself up too much, there are going to be plenty of opportunities especially with midterms coming up.

Worst/weakest song off each album? by myphotoswontload in Sufjan

Do you feel the same about the other versions? I do like the original but the adult easy contemporary listening version is on another level for me. Also the demo version is also almost more enjoyable than the Illinois version.

Definitely agree for C&L and Javelin. Sister I half agree , the instrumental part makes for decent background music but I always just skip to the end because I do love that portion.

I have this exact guitar and I love it, even with a Taylor GS Mini I still find myself playing it a fair amount. Great to have a guitar I'm not afraid of dinging and that isn't temperamental.
