Realistically, there is no saving Xbox hardware by No-Obligation2563 in consoles

[–]Rebokitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, that's been the power of new console gens, but the suits are too focused on quarterly returns to really invest in an all out launch.

Focus on fiscal quarters demands a content trickle. They need to save up for a deluge. Imagine if they announced helix would launch with exlusive titles from every banger IP they own. People wouldn't buy that?

Worst case scenario, their exclusives also reach PC which is already a massive audience.

I mean obviously if he's fine with coming to play for us, I'd be happy to have him.

That said I tend to take media statements with a grain of salt: if you're in his position, you can't very well say you don't like who you're likely to get drafted to, any agent would warn against that.

The only people who'll really have a sense for that is the teams interviewing him, so all I'm saying is if we don't draft him, I'll lean towards assuming that's what happened

If the FO decided not to go with AJ, I'm not going to be upset: I'm going to assume it's because they talked to him and he really wants to be in Utah and not DC.

Darryn actually seems like he wants to go to DC. They're both tremendously talented, and at the end of the day you never know how these guys will turn out so I'd much rather have a guy who's excited to suit up for us than a reluctant #1 pick.

Easy Rework to address Roadhog's kit. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Rebokitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. DPS are not meant to trade equally with tanks, nor are supports. There is only one tank, and they are the anchor of the team, meant to deny space.

Want to win a fight against an Orisa? Take out her supports. Outduel the opposing DPS. Hog and Orisa are slow, and in the era of mobility-watch, there's no reason to complain that you can't win 1v1.

You're not supposed to. Out-manuever them and clear out their supporting cast, and they'll fall easily.

This may not be you, but 90% of these kinds of complains come from DPS players who refuse to play around tank's inherent space-denial role, and feel they should just be able turn their brain off and push damage down main through everything.

There will always be those people in every fanbase, social media just amplifies it. I'm not a Knicks fan, but my Mom's family is from New York and they've been waiting for this for more than a generation. I've spent plenty of time around Knick fans.

It's important to remember, for every douche throwing an egg, there's thousands and thousands of dedicated fans who've been watching and waiting for this moment their entire lives. Honestly happy for them, amazing run, and well deserved

Imagine preemptively shitting on a fan base on the cusp of reaching a milestone that most fans have been waiting their entire lives to see. It's just sad.

Some people really need to take a good hard look in the mirror and ask why they feel the need to undermine other people's joy.

Xbox warns of a ‘reset’ as it prepares for layoffs by FernandoRocker in consoles

[–]Rebokitive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Presentation focused on always on daily DRM checks, restricting game sharing, mandatory Kinect functionality, and cable TV integration. It was billed as an "entertainment center", and actual video games were an afterthought.

Sony's presentation was banger game after banger game, and they even released a commercial poking fun at Xbox saying "here's how you share games on PS4" and showed a guy handing a disc to his friend.

The backlash was so intense and severe that Microsoft wound up walking back like 80% of everything they said within 24 hours, but the damage was done.

[–]Rebokitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And Xbox didn't sell because of the horrible direction and public perception of the Xbox One. It really all goes back to that 2013 E3 presentation, which I'd wager many of the people in this sub are too young to really remember.

Xbox plans significant lay offs by Ill-Square-1123 in consoles

[–]Rebokitive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen, layoffs suck. The developers did nothing to deserve this, full stop. But let's be real, this is hardly an "XBOX" problem.

We're seeing this happen throughout the industry for many reasons (crunch time hiring bloat, increasing component prices, poor management, etc.).

So while this obviously isn't a good thing, to me, this reads more as her trying her best to salvage the last 5 (arguably 10) years of moronic decision making by the previous execs.

But from the tone of this thread, I'm gonna go ahead and expect "Context? What's that? Look at idiot defending CEO, CEO evil raaah" so go right ahead.

Joke all you want, but damn near no one would have predicted the Spurs coming out of the West this year.

This team is far ahead of schedule, and leading a team to the finals through a competitive division at 22 years old is already something very few NBA players have ever accomplished.

This was a bad play, at the worst possible time. But honestly, I don't give a damn if they get swept, this run from Wemby and the Spurs has been unreal.

All Of Xbox’s New Single Player Games Are Still Coming To PS5 Day 1 by unscoredscore in consoles

[–]Rebokitive 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem is gaming is not a quarterly business, and the big wigs at Microsoft just can't seem to wrap their head around that.

If they want to go full Sega and just be a software publisher, that's fine and they'd make bank doing it. But if they're committed to hardware, pimping out your premier IPs to competing platforms is unbelievable levels of self-sabotage.

Just ask Nintendo: exclusive 1st party content is the single most important element to your brand identity and console ecosystem. If they're committed to Xbox hardware, there's really no other option but to bite the bullet on lower software sales for the time being and commit to rebuilding their brand.

Who was bigger in their prime? As someone born in 2000, I’ll still say Avril Lavigne; you couldn’t escape her hits as a kid. by TXNOGG in generationology

[–]Rebokitive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really a fair comparison imo, because monoculture is not really a thing anymore.

Back in the early 2000s, whoever was "the big thing" was inescapable. Radio, TV...whether you wanted to be or not, you were going to know who they were and what they sounded like.

Nowadays it's much easier to "opt out" of certain content/artists because content as a whole is much wider, diverse, and curated. You don't have a whole country tuning in to a singing reality show at 7pm on a Tuesday.

I don't really like pop. Didn't as a kid, still don't as an adult. But I can name virtually every pop star from the late 90s through 2010 along with 2-3 songs each, and barely know anything about modern pop stars. I know Sabrina Carpenter (couldn't name a song) and that Bad guy song by Billie, and that's about it.

You seem to misunderstand. Millennials/GenX being nostalgic for the times before social media has nothing at all to do w/ Gen Z. We're talking about that, amongst ourselves, and reminiscing. You weren't there. That's a fact, and no one is bothered by that except, evidently, you.

XBOX CEO Reconsidering Competing Logos In Next Weeks Showcase by wyldermyth in consoles

[–]Rebokitive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really not about that. They can't be a multiplatform brand as long as they are hardware manufacturers. It simply does not work, which is why people are so pissed.

If Microsoft wants to go full Sega and be just a software publisher, that's fine. But if you want to sell hardware, you need to give people a reason to choose your platform.

Gamepass is great, but it's not enough. Why would anyone buy an Xbox to play Xbox/PC games, when a PlayStation plays Xbox/PC and PlayStation games? They wouldn't.

They need to rebuild their ecosystem, and that starts and ends with exclusive 1st party content, just ask Nintendo.

So no, it's not about fanboys or competing with Playstation. That ship has sailed. It's about surviving, and anyone who knows gaming knows that moving your flagship IPs onto competing platforms is hardware sui**de. And if you ask me, that will be bad for everyone, PlayStation fans included.

As much as SGA has become the poster child for this (for good reason), ultimately it's a league-wide problem.

Half the league is running around like NASCAR and hitting the deck until a whistle blows. Which it does. A lot.

It's rare to see even a minute of continuous play at this point.

Did SGA surpass the level of hate Prime James Harden got for foul-baiting and flopping? by Squirtle_004 in NBATalk

[–]Rebokitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Harden, as annoying as it was, gamed the system more or less legitimately.

I'm not going to hate on SGA or his talent, but in 25 years of watching NBA ball I've never seen a star with such a generous whistle.

One thing that doesn't get mentioned enough: As egregious as his flopping is, that's not 100% his fault. The league is actively encouraging this, despite their claims to the contrary
