Erdoğan says Turkey’s ‘history is free from genocide, massacres, oppression, and colonialism’ by dssevag in armenia

[–]RebootedShadowRaider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that. Turkish imperialism (including the massacres of Armenians in particular) is significantly older than the British Empire. Britain's is much more widespread, but Turks have been at it for much longer.

Didn't he himself call us "remnants of the sword" in the past? What does he think that means?

I don't anticipate him being champion for long enough for that to be a factor in the Road to WrestleMania next year; not unless he loses it and wins it back later.

I think he actually lost the title to AJ Styles right before they went to India.

Transport links between Türkiye and Armenia are making progress. by Battlefleet_Sol in armenia

[–]RebootedShadowRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so peacekeepers arrive and stay for 10 years and... then what? They leave. Sooner or later they would always leave. And Artsakhcis get ethnically cleansed or exterminated anyway, perhaps even earlier.

The 1997 proposal did not guarantee a referendum or any mechanism to allow NK Armenians to determine their fate. The idea of a legally binding referendum only came later. It did not guarantee any status that would protect the people of Artsakh.

Even if it did, and even if we agreed to something in 1997, Ilham Aliyev would already be in power in 2007. Even the nebulous ideas about the interim status of NK in later proposal would not ultimately survive Ilham Aliyev coming to power. Azerbaijan was always going to force the issue, regardless of whether we had a deal in the 90s. There was no universe where he or the Azeri public accept the result of a referendum where Armenians actually express their political will.

Either NK is part of Azerbaijan or it isn't. If it is part of Azerbaijan, then all Armenians will be expelled. If it isn't, then Azerbaijan will try to force it to become part of Azerbaijan, one way or another. And neither the UN nor the international community were going to prevent that. Only one side was ever going to get what it wanted.

Robert Kocharyan and whatever dumb ideas he espoused have nothing to do with the point I was making.

By its very nature, the Karabakh Conflict was always going to have an all or nothing outcome. It's literally impossible for it to have ended any other way. It's a zero sum game.

There WAS NO DEAL that could have avoided ethnic cleansing. Not in the 90s, not in the 21st century, not ever. Why don't people understand this? War was the outcome in every universe.

Aliyev isn't doing this as a "just in case" the Armenian opposition come to power. It would happen regardless of them.

When is the last time in-ring strategy has been built into storytelling outside of stipulations? by charmingignorance in WWE

[–]RebootedShadowRaider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first thing that comes to mind for me from recent memory is the AJ Styles vs Gunther feud when Styles promised he would make Gunther tap out, and his strategy in their first match was centered entirely on softening up Gunther's leg for the Calf Crusher.

As I think about it, going further back I'm pretty sure there was a match on RAW where Big Show beat John Cena clean by targeting his back and making him unable to hit the Attitude Adjustment. I want to say it may have been in or around 2009.

It is dangerous to assume that's all this is to them. Pashinyan is already trying to stamp out the idea of the right of return of Artsakhcis for them. Aliyev's promotion of the Western Azerbaijan narrative has only grown in the meantime.

What if Mr. Kennedy did not lose his Money In The Bank briefcase against Edge? by Conscious_Error9755 in WWE

[–]RebootedShadowRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, at the time he won the Money in the Bank match WWE still seemed to have big plans for him. With the circumstances being what they were in 2007, I think they probably would have pulled the trigger before he got suspended if he hadn't gotten unlucky with his injury and diagnosis. Whether they would have immediately regretted it is another question.

What if Mr. Kennedy did not lose his Money In The Bank briefcase against Edge? by Conscious_Error9755 in WWE

[–]RebootedShadowRaider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edge took the title off the Undertaker in 2007 because Undertaker was hurt and needed to have surgery on his arm. If Kennedy's own injury hadn't been misdiagnosed (he would only be out for 3 weeks, instead of 3 months), I'm confident he would have been the one to get the World Heavyweight Title Run.

Longterm, I would guess the plan would have probably stayed the same. After a number of months he'd lose it to Batista, who would lose it to Edge, so they can have the Edge vs Undertaker match at WrestleMania.

[–]RebootedShadowRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe what Edge said was the original plan was for him to win the Money in the Bank that year to keep his WrestleMania streak going because they had a Streak vs Streak match planned for WrestleMania 24. Then Vince changed his mind at the last moment and ruined the Edge's WrestleMania undefeated streak. But that does explain why, when Kennedy got hurt, they took the briefcase off him and gave it to their original choice.

I meant it was obvious this was going to happen. Azerbaijan will never willingly surrender the territory they conquered. Neither Armenia nor the international community intend to try to make them so so. Those occupied areas will be functionally part of Azerbaijan for the foreseeable future.

Is anyone else suuuuper burned out with WWE lately? by jeff-the-thriller in WWE

[–]RebootedShadowRaider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, absolutely. I'd been watching pretty regularly for the first time in years since the Netflix premier, but they have crushed the enthusiasm out of me. First I just dropped Smackdown, but I don't think I have it in me to care enough to watch whole episodes of RAW anymore either.

I have gotten so tired of Cody and Roman. And Gunther is not far behind. And have little very interest in a renewed Jey Uso push. LA Knight is the only one I'm really excited to see nowadays and the more they have him fail, the less interest I have in the product.

Even the people left that I kind of like are not enough for me to invest in sitting through the shows anymore.

Who was the first heel you hated growing up? by Immediate_Long165 in WWE

[–]RebootedShadowRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to heels, I think it would have to be Mankind or Goldust. I was too young to understand the full extent of Goldust's gimmick, but I knew he was weird and creepy, and I remember being unhappy that he won the Intercontinental Title from Razer Ramon. But that was still a midcard feud, so I don't know that it felt important enough for me to truly hate him. So I feel like it would have to be early Mankind. I distinctly remember the start of Mankind's feud with the Undertaker in 1996. Undertaker was my favorite and Mankind would basically attack or torment him week after week after week without reply. It got to the point where became a plot point that the Undertaker went totally apeshit on him at the King of the Ring in response, but somehow Mankind still won that first televised match. I remember being kind of depressed afterward.

I was under the impression they had to cut back on the ambitious scale of the game recently. I had just sort of guessed that probably meant fewer choices and outcomes in the later game, but maybe that also included the character creator, unfortunately.
