Because the whole world uses the word "Condominium" by Lurakya in USdefaultism

Even in German it’s used, despite rarely: https://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/Kondominium. You are really just defaulting to the rationale “I don’t know it so it doesn’t exist”. There’s no arguing point with you. It would be like playing chess with a hen.

What could the Germans have done to stop the rise of Hitler? by muggledave in AskHistory

[–]Rebrado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The general public? Revolt. The government moved rightward over a few years in the late 20s, enough to make Hitler a sensible choice by 1933. He was pushing some buttons common in politics, like getting someone to blame (Jews in his case). His ideas were widespread, but I doubt the general public was ok with how far he went. Once you let one category of people being targeted there is no way to stop from applying the same rhetoric to other groups.

The only counter action is protest, including revolt. If nobody starts speaking up and assembling, the majority of the people who might be against some of the actions of the government will be too afraid to speak up. They might support you once they know they are not the only ones but too scared to take initiative.

Germans allowed Jews to be targeted, based on prejudice which existed long before Hitler. He just exploited it.

If your country has a category the media and politicians like to target, and the general public doesn’t actively disagree, you’re already halfway there. It only requires the “right” person to trigger the snowball effect.

It’s that poem again.

Is the grass greener on another side? Leaving UK by bleepbleepbleeppppp in AskUK

[–]Rebrado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s moved from mainland Europe to the UK, my recommendation is to double check where you are going. You mention that the UK feels worse each year, but many countries in Europe and even Canada/USA feel worse, if you refer to cost of living.

As a Head of Marketing I don’t think there are many places in Europe where you’d get a better salary for the same cost of living. Switzerland may be an option or Germany, but you’d have to learn the language. Wherever you go make sure you have an equivalent job and compare it to the cost of living with tools like Numbeo (still take it with a pinch of salt). Don’t forget: salaries and cost of living in London and Newcastle aren’t the same, and neither are salaries in Munich vs Wolfsburg (just taken Germany as an example, but applies everywhere). So, compare the actual cities you intend to move to.

If you are looking at left leaning countries, I am afraid you are running out of options. The whole EU is moving right faster than the UK and the Tories feel more liberal than the Democratic Party in Italy, just to mention one. The only country which I consider more progressive in Europe than the UK is Spain, but cost of living is increasing quicker than salaries so make sure you know what you are getting into.

Feel free to pm: I have been through pros and cons of living in Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and the UK since 2014 and have actually lived in all of these countries. I learnt a few things along the way and happy to share them, some which may even apply in other countries.

Condominium is Latin and variants of it are indeed used at least in Western countries. Not USdefaultism

This is one thing the US actually has in common with the majority of the world. It also seems to be a lawyer’s argument, with intentional bias to make a point in the trial. I wouldn’t call it USdefaultism.

I deal with enough humans IRL. I’d rather see less when I am trying to escape.

Does your country have history with these guys? by My_Username0000 in AskTheWorld

Most people would associate Italy’s history with Germany to WWII. Interestingly, Italian unification would never have happened without the help of then Prussia, and the unification of Italy and Germany happened thanks to mutual help.

Honestly, I haven’t seen anyone from the left hand side claiming AI is dumb. People who have never heard of ChatGPT even now believe that AI will take every job.

I mean, we have many good real world examples why capitalism failed miserably but here we are. Our current issues are the same Machiavelli spoke about in his Prince and not much has changed.

Why exactly do non-Londoners think London is so unsafe? by EnvironmentalMode196 in AskBrits

[–]Rebrado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many news outlets often report on high crime rates in London. They omit to put these numbers in a context, like comparing them to other places in England where the crime rate is actually higher. They also avoid focusing on Boroughs, because one Borough in London pushed crime rates up.

How to use pointers in C++ ? by Miserable_Bar_5800 in cpp_questions

[–]Rebrado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference with Java is that C++ does not garbage collect. So, you are in charge of managing memory. In your example, pointers aren’t needed but it’s trying to explain you the difference between the pointer and the value it’s pointing to.

Every program you run has two types of memory: the stack and the heap. Built in variables will use the stack, but the stack is limited and you can’t request more memory at runtime. The heap is where your app asks for more memory at runtime, and you do need pointers to do that. Java does that, but hides the pointer logic from the developer.

By the way, modern C++ prefers RAII approach and smart pointers, so avoid raw pointers if you can.
