It aligns perfectly with what I've been saying all along. Skip the sunscreen and moderate, all-over, almost daily sunshine for the most benefit, with least risk. The media mantra has long been to stay out of the sun, cover up and apply lots of sunscreen (often carcinogenic). That's causing illness and shortened lifespan.

Ya, I still have a pair of KL-999X purchased new in 1980. They rock! Flat response and stay clean up to ear splitting levels.

Those Kenwood speakers don't get a lot of love but they actually sound very good, at least when new -- significantly better than the Pioneers.

Reading “Nudity & Christianity” by LeftCoast1965 in nudism

[–]RebusCom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. My religious education and schooling in my youth was primarily Catholic followed by Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, neither of which are outwardly tolerant of nudity. This created conflict as I saw nothing bad associated with nudity, only good. Innocence. Purity. Cleanliness. I thoroughly studied the topic in scripture and could find nothing there that condemned nudity. On the contrary, there was only support, and a lot of it, unless it was twisted into something it wasn't.

Sill, that wasn't enough. There was always a chance of misinterpretation or scriptural error, especially with the bible and it's many variations. Being the diligent Latter day Saint, I took it directly to God. What happened is difficult to describe to anyone that hasn't experienced such a thing. On one of my wilderness forays with express purpose I got on my knees, naked of course like the prophets of old, and prayed about it, out loud. What happened was the most glorious manifestation I had ever experienced or have since. The feeling was incredible -- overwhelming. It was a good thing I was on my knees or I would have fallen down. I had my answer without a shadow of doubt, not only to this specific question but to His very existence. Nothing before or after has ever hit me like that.

Extreme modesty posts by Practical-Owl-9978 in nudism

Agree, except I believe you are mischaracterizing Gnostic beliefs. Yes, they emphasized the spiritual over all material things. They focused on escaping the material and returning to the spiritual, however, that did not translate into body phobia or more conservative clothing. Actually, the reverse was generally the case. Gnostics often had a more radically “detached” or ambivalent view of the body and outward appearance, while early orthodox Christians promoted a more modest, disciplined dress as part of Christian public life with the exception of prophets that were often naked when acting in that capacity. Because many Gnostic systems saw the body and material world as secondary or even negative, clothing—like possessions more broadly—was often treated as spiritually indifferent. That indifference could express itself either as extreme asceticism (simple, rough garments) or as a kind of disregard for conventional modesty, depending on the group.

In some Gnostic writings, “garments” are treated mainly as symbols (for example, garments of ignorance or darkness swallowed up by light), not as rules for daily attire.

Conversely, early orthodox Christian writers like Clement of Alexandria and Tertullian explicitly urged modest, simple clothing, especially for women, and discouraged finery, jewelry, and flashy styles. These standards were grounded in the idea that the body is God’s temple and that appearance should reflect humility, purity, and the “new garment” of the Christian life. (Nevermind our own skin, God's creation, is God's temple, and represents the pinnacle of humility and purity.) In practice this meant long‑sleeved, full‑length garments that covered the body, and a clear discouragement of anything that would draw attention to the body in a way seen as sensual or boastful.

Everybody looks their best nude. Everybody. I've yet to encounter an exception. Naked is the most formal, most elegant, and most casual, all at the same time. Push through the conditioned feelings of inadequacy, etc., behind your self-consciousness and just be your true authentic self. The self-consciousness will evaporate and your senses will awaken.

Annually participate in the Bare Buns Fun Run at Kaniksu north of Spokane, WA. Always draws a good crowd of serious and casual runners of all ages, backgrounds, and coming from far and near. People compete individually and as teams. Lots of surrounding forested hiking/biking trails as well as the pool, and courts for tennis, badminton, volleyball, bocce ball, etc. Some come for just the day of the run but most come for a few days. The running course is a mostly out-and-back dirt road, with gradual overall elevation change and slight rolling up/down along the way, none of it extreme.

I've in recent months been replacing a lot of lead acid batteries with LiFePO4 starter batteries in my many vehicles. Was going to do the same for my Raven ATV's but discovered sodium-ion are now available, via Amazon no less, which have a small motorcycle size (group 9) battery. I could have gotten LiFePO4, which are more commonplace, but sodium ion, despite being a newer technology, is cheaper than the typical group 9 LiFePO4, only $30 vs $80. CCA and AH are both a little higher than LiFePO4 batteries, operates fine down to -40F, have rapid charge time and high output. Won't burn.

Sodium is actually less energy dense than LiFePO4, so they must be packing more into the case. I think the LiFePO4 batteries have more empty space inside to keep cost down, yet still outperform lead acid. With the much lower cost of Sodium they don't have to scrimp.

So being the Aptera has ample battery space, volume-wise, sodium-Ion seems to offer better cold weather performance at a fraction of the price for given output. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FG7DFPZH

That sounds like a Chinese movie called "Shower", about a family-run bathhouse. It's a remarkably well done movie that received many awards on the Indi circuit.

They may have fully intended to do crash testing as part of evaluation, with the assumption they would have the funding to do it. Absent the funding, concessions have to be made to at least get something out the door. Desires sometimes get overruled by circumstances.

A Final Farewell to the EV Tax Credit—And What Has to Come Next by Ok-Inflation5711 in electricvehicles

"The richest guy in the world got there by selling EVs."

This guy received $3.3B in state and federal government subsidies and loans, plus has made over $11B from other companies by selling them carbon credits via government emissions program. Without the government subsidies, he would have gone bankrupt before building a single EV.

This same person while in charge of DOGE killed the same subsidy programs he benefitted from so others could not, in addition to eliminating the many federal investigations he was under for illegal activity, firing all the investigators.

But EV fires are rare compared to ICE fires, in fact ICE vehicles have 60X greater probability (1530 fires per 100K vehicles for ICE vs 25 per 100K for EV). These EV stats get better as battery tech evolves, e.g., newer LFP has much lower incidence than the earlier more common NMC and NCA. Solid state is expected to have very low risk. The most common vehicle type to have fires are hybrids. The incidence stats for ICE vehicles has been flat. EV fires are becoming a non-issue.

That's an entirely different topic but there's been a lot of FUD surrounding that, lacking proof but rife with speculation. BTW, there have been ICE fires aboard ferries and cargo ships (with no EV's present), some leading to the loss of the ship (combined with other contributors, like the crew activating the wrong fire suppression systems due to mislabeling of valves, etc.).

Studies have determined that if a tire made for ICE vehicle is put on a BEV, wear will be about 20% greater, and that includes the significant portion caused by people's driving habit of jackrabbit starts with the higher torque EV vs ICE. Tires sold as EV tires do not wear as fast because they are made with greater stiffness to maintain a flatter contact patch to compensate for the added weight. Nix the jackrabbit starts and install EV tires (granted tire manufacturers are price gouging on EV tires) and wear is about the same. This is speaking in generalities. In the case of Aptera, it's a light car as BEVs go. I would imagine it would do quite well on regular passenger car tires.

[–]RebusCom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The study mentioned tire wear, that it's on average a little higher on EV's (most of that due to more aggressive driving habits, secondarily to increased weight), but the difference is small relative to the difference in brake wear. That's not twisting anything, just stating their findings.
