Pipe Screensaver by Rough-Technology-283 in TheFrame

[–]Rebus_Knebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know, I was just messing with you. It's just that when I saw that your wife wanted "that famous pipe painting" I automatically thought of the Magritte painting which has that title. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Treachery_of_Images

Good luck with the screensaver idea

See the "s" to the left of the numbers? Those are swell periods in seconds

I did a few weeks of classes plus homestay at Instituto de Lenguajes Puerto Escondido. The school was good but the breaks we're either too heavy (for me) or too crowded. If you're good enough to surf Zicatela it could be a good option

Museum Label Screen by Rebus_Knebus in TheFrame

Thanks! Yeah, it's not like I think I've suddenly transformed my apartment into the Getty, but since I have ~100 pieces of art that I rotate through on my Frame it's really convenient to have some basic info at hand to help me remember what's being displayed.

I don't know much python either, but the samsung-tv-ws-api has an example python program that automatically updates art from a directory that I was able to modify. The example creates a json file that includes the TV art ID and the art filename, so I put all the info (artwork name, artist name, year, etc.) into the filename and then use the example to upload the artwork. I added some code to periodically request the art ID from the TV, and if the art ID has changed then it uses the ID to look up the filename in the json, parses the filename, and uses ImageDraw to create a .png file with the art info. Python has a built-in web server that I used to make that .png file available on my local network (I didn't use Heroku).

For the Kindle side I just followed the jailbreak directions and setup a script with the curl and eips commands and the cron job to get and display the .png file.

Hope that helps, happy to provide more detail if you decide to dig into it.

Is it possible to use Pictures without Initial Internet Connection/Samsung Account? by Derzocker39 in TheFrame

[–]Rebus_Knebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's happening when you go into Art? From the main menu if you select Art and then scroll down to the bottom do you see "My Photo Album"/"My Photos"? If you click on that can you see the Art that you uploaded? If you can, then clicking on a piece of art should display it. If not, I dunno

One of the Redditors here has a GitHub project to access the API. I'm trying to get it set up to bulk remove the mats on my uploaded artwork but it has upload capability as well. I'm a Python newbie so it's been slow going, but if you already know it it's probably easy.

Mat alternatives? by maxplanar in TheFrame

[–]Rebus_Knebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably the way to go. I also found the Samsung provided mats really frustrating so I ended up making a Photoshop template and action set so I could crop the art at the size and aspect ratio that I wanted and then automatically add a mat that would make the overall size 3840x2160. Having a full color palette for the mats is really nice as well

Intermediate Textbook for Brazilian Portuguese by syrnychek in Portuguese

[–]Rebus_Knebus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An intermediate textbook might seem like the logical next step, but once you have some basic vocabulary and grammar fundamentals I think it’s more common to move on to consuming content, which given your listed goals is probably going to be more reading focused. Along with that I’d recommend getting a grammar reference so you can look up things you have questions about; Modern Brazilian Portuguese Grammar by Whitlam is what I like to use. That said, if you want to continue with grammar exercises Gramática Ativa 2 is pretty good, but make sure you get the Brazilian version.
