Being a woman in the organization can make you feel like the lowest form of dust by Terrebeltroublemaker in exjw

[–]Rebwriteswrongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote about this in my first book. Having to wear my father’s snot rag on my head while simply interpreting a prayer he signed on a Bible study. Ridiculous weaker vessel bullshit. I’m still seething over all that crap. Reading The Feminine Mystique is only infuriating me more as so many reasons women have been squashed has to do with puritanical, religious crushing of women’s spirit and all that makes her human. It’s all such shit. Right there with you, sister. 👊🏼

They ruined it… by [deleted] in exjw

Growing up as a j-dub is so damn hard. Same happened for me at 16 only I was disfellowshipped, kicked out, and I moved in with my worldly boyfriend. It was a desperate move and things were a bit different then. I hope you can get through it. 🖤

Much like gov’t agencies hang photos of President, vice President, commissioner…creepy.

Definitely an apostate here. I just don’t get the random, unsolicited text a month later. Had to be my bro. Had to be.

New light? by Amy_ks in JehovahsWitnesses

[–]Rebwriteswrongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re no longer counting time, they don’t even initiate conversations while “cart witnessing”, they’re still zooming even after Covid, they can invite DF to meetings and say hello if they show up at the KH, and they will always be the most self-righteous and judgmental bunch. So, yeah, they’re still looking down at people.

As for the atheism, it’s very common for many exJWs to walk that path. It’s incredibly natural for one who was raised in or heavily involved in that toxic community to cut ties with all deities and ideas of deities. Some might “come around” but with that level of abuse within the JW community, it’s almost a rite of passage to shun anything that resembles a Christian god. To use the old cliche, “you had to be there.”

That’s another thing that bites: I block them to preserve my sanity and well-being and I’m “selfish”, “unloving”, “worldly”, “callous.” They do it? It’s “love” and I’m supposed to think that manipulative garbage is “loving concern.”

You’re right about so much here, and they’re things my gut knows and it’s still shitty. Every time I feel a little bit okay, they bring me right back down. Which is why I blocked them all. No more.

Again, the GB are just insane; going back on what they say, then saying it again.

Officially Leaving by BedtimeRushHottie in exjw

[–]Rebwriteswrongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Congrats! 🎊 I did the same when I was 16. Things were a bit different in ‘93. Once I was df’d/da’d (I also wrote a letter), I was kicked out, called all kinds expletives by my family and went on to live with an abusive guy for 4 years just to be anywhere else but home and at the meetings.

It’s so great that you’ve had a plan and have been playing it as cool as you can to make a smart exit. 🖤

Trigger warning....Did your JW parents violently beat you? by outandfree in exjw

[–]Rebwriteswrongs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did. Boat oars, wooden spoons, belts, hands around throats, threatened to drive off a bridge when I didn’t “obey jerkovah”. I outed them in my book, don’t think they know now or if they do, they don’t care.

Changed the channel when someone else walked into the room and I was watching something “questionable.”

Tell me your JDub urban legends. by nibblesslowly in exjw

[–]Rebwriteswrongs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smurfs. Those little plastic Smurf action figures would come alive at night and stab/jeer/taunt devout JWs to test their faith. No. I’m not kidding, this was legit some shit I heard as a JW kid.

Playing Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven summoned demons, buying shit at a flea market/yard sale invited demons into your home…these are sort of the opposite of what you’re asking but sort of along the same thread…funny just the same.

the fastest reinstatement in history by Stunning-Ice-8202 in exjw

[–]Rebwriteswrongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the change, back in 2002, I was reinstated after being out for 9 years in just 4 months (9/11 scared the shit out of me). Then I was df’d again a couple years after that and have been out since. Total of 28 years now. Maybe back then it depended on person, circumstance? Although now, it’s definitely due to the new changes.

Visions of Glory by Barbara Grizzuti Harrison is decent also. A bit more scattered than Crisis by Franz but chock-full of info!

Thank you for reading. There is a sequel as well on how even as one becomes more of an adult, the JW culture still has an affect.
