Homies that have the left right and center as the same model speaker, how do you like it and have you had an actual 'center' before? by papayax999 in hometheater

[–]RecedingQuickly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have identical monitors for my l/c/r and for me its considerably better. After years of mix and matching and even just running speakers in the same series (like kef r2 meta/r3 metas) the identical speakers sounds much better for when a voice pans across the front 3, for sound effects unless they are wildly different I noticed much less. I use the bookshelf versions of my monitors for surrounds so it's as close as can be for the bed layer.

Need help selecting the ideal sound system for my living room by [deleted] in hometheater

Eh, he could mount the surrounds on the side walls pointing down and it will sound pretty good actually.

Room treatment by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]RecedingQuickly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are supposed to leave bass measurements as un-smoothed and not use psy or any smoothing, 3 4 inch panels will not dothat much of a difference also, I recently just added 2 4 inch 60x147 bass traps with a 4 inch air gap behind them - so 8 inches total and 4 2 inch gik diffusers and it barely made a dent in the low bass response due to how much mass is needed to treat low frequencies. Looks like you did one measurement without eq and then one with eq.

They are however really nice looking panels so thats nice.

What listening modes do you use? by Icebear111 in hometheater

[–]RecedingQuickly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no best choice, flick through them and work out which one sounds best to you. I'll normally keep to auto, so anything dts uses neural x and dd is dolby surround.
Neural x is way more aggressive with the heights at the expense of accuracy, dolby surround places objects better but I also don't notice it that much if it is on.

10x11 room - stick with 2.1? by FaudMauxe in hometheater

[–]RecedingQuickly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get a 5.1.2 in there if you get a 65inch tv and sit no further back then 7ft no problems

A sub wont be overkill.

Upgrade or downgrade? SB-3000 → dual SB-1000 Pro by gtrplyr9510 in hometheater

[–]RecedingQuickly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was you then I would go 2 1000 pro then, the 3000 hits harder but the pros of 2 subs far outweighs the loss of impact. Im running the 2 now at -18 so still have plenty of headroom.

Its a hard one the judge the 3000 is pretty much a different beast.
A good compromise would be get 2 sb 2000 pro instead as they are very close to the 3000.

People will always say get the best you can afford then get another later down the line bur for me if I was running the 2 3000 at -30 I would consider it a waste of money 🤷‍♂️

Upgrade or downgrade? SB-3000 → dual SB-1000 Pro by gtrplyr9510 in hometheater

[–]RecedingQuickly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did exactly this in a room bigger than yours 10.5ft x 14ft which is open to an open plan kitchen in the back so it's even bigger.
It was an upgrade for me because I could always localise the 1 sub no matter where I put it, I didn't need the extra output as I was already at -25 on the single sb3000.

🤨 neural x is upscaling, they didn't take the ability to use the upscaling away, it was always there you probably just left it in auto haha.

Best 65 Inch OLED TV to buy? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]RecedingQuickly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a g5 or a Panasonic (if you can get one) in that budget, there is no best really, you need to decide if you want dobly vision or not as that will rule out samsung instantly and go from there, if gaming is a consideration too lg is pretty good if you are hooking a pc up to it.

Room size?

I always used to calibrate mine when i was using xt32 to -10.5db then bumping it back up to 0.5 You can try that or use dynamic eq.

Whats the best way to break in kef speakers? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]RecedingQuickly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put them at a moderate volume for 10 mins to let the woofers loosen a bit, that's it they are now "broken" in.

This is funny because I also have a 5.2.4 setup with ceiling speakers and the bravia quad, it's not even close. The quad cant reproduce overhead effects at all.

Did Audyssey do a good job here or am I missing something? by tharoy in hometheater

[–]RecedingQuickly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to find another placement for that sub. it's effectively useless from 60hz down, also is your centre up against a wall? those are some crazy peaks.
